Denny Yen 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2006 Callsign Sumo 51, a C-130 on a tech stop. Its a KC-130R, a tanker version of C-130 and an improved version of its predecessor KC-130F. Rocket nozzles main gear housing give the a/c extra lift. Tail code "QD" and rego "160013". It is operated by Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152 (VMGR-152) aka "The Sumos" stationed in USMC air station in Okinawa, Japan. This sqdn provides air refuelling support to Marine a/c doing various missions. Each of the underwing pods contains 80ft hose for the incoming a/c to insert its fuel suction nozzle. Typically KC-130Rs carry 8,000gal (30,283L) of fuel serving a/c within a 1,000nm radius.
