National Aviation Council to be set up..

Recommended Posts

PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, today announced the establishment of the National Aviation Council to coordinate all policies related to the aviation industry in the country.

He said the council would deal with all policies on aviation and decide on issues arising between Malaysia's premier carrier, Malaysia Airlines (MAS), low-cost carrier, AirAsia Bhd, and airports' operator, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.

"With the existence of an intermediary body, which handles issues objectively, Malaysia's aviation industry growth can be better planned, orderly and systematic.

"Problems surfacing from time to time can be amicably resolved and coordinated through the council. If there are fundamental issues, they can be forwarded to the Economic Council for the government to make a decision," he told a media conference.

Najib said the council's details and structural set-up would be announced soon.

Asked on individuals to be appointed to the council, Najib said people with vast experience in the aviation industry would be named to the council.

"We're still in the midst of scouting for right people. Probably, it should be in one or two months' time. It is about time, otherwise it is very hard to arbitrate between MAS, AirAsia and MAHB.

"We need a body really dedicated, and understands the nature of the industry," he added.

Earlier, Najib, who is also Finance Minister, attended the Putrajaya Committee on Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) High Performance Group meeting and held a dialogue with GLCs.

He said the cooperation between MAS and AirAsia needs to be undertaken under a new economic model.

This could be through Memoranda of Understanding to reflect the area in which cooperation can be established between MAS and AirAsia, he said.

"At the dialogue session today, the representative of workers thanked the government for reviewing and cancelling the crossholding between MAS and AirAsia.

"However, they had accepted that cooperation between the two regional champions had given benefits to the country's economy," he said.

On the appointment of Datuk Azman Mohd as the president and chief executive officer of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Najib said it has been well accepted by the union and workers.--BERNAMA

You mean the finger pointing transport minister? takpayah...he is so clueless that whenever he is on main media, you can see that he is either pointing somewhere or someone while mumbling something. Just watch the media and you will see such antics.

So clueless that najip have to create a council to back up.

We have since 4 individual agencies to deal with road transport, and now a separate entity to deal with aviation.

What does these tell you? Go figure.

Is just happen that it took a major fall out in the form of MAS-AirAsia divorce to have invoked such a need for a council. Before that it was all one's man greed or stupidity that decided what should or not to be done? I would have thought the merger is well calculated, and thought off before announcing it to the world only to have it back to square one status.

Is this the way how MAS can infiltrate into AA's management system to see how and what make it ticks and profitable?

Nevertheless, if such council is to be set up, it must remain impartial and acts independently in within international aviation standards and protocols, and most important of all, suited to local environment.

If najip wants the council to report back to him everything that is going on, might as well give half the transport ministerial salary to the council committee since the latter is nothing much but a figure in the government's portfolio.
