Making room for more flights at Changi Airport

Recommended Posts

Travellers departing from Changi Airport on two different flights could soon find themselves in the same pre-boarding waiting room.

In a pilot initiative to handle additional flights without the need for more gatehold rooms and aircraft bays, Changi Airport has split an existing gate into two.

When operational within the next few months, the redesigned Gate F52 in Terminal 2 (T2) will be able to accommodate either one big aircraft or two smaller single-aisle planes, effectively boosting its handling capacity by up to two times.

Four of Terminal 2's existing 35 gates will be converted by next year.

This will boost the terminal's capacity by 11per cent.

The entire project, which includes replacing 26 aerobridges and 14 gangways in T2, will cost $48 million.

Now, each gate handles just one aircraft; big or small.
