The title is a bit misleading (at least to me), but here you go...

 

Plane leaves runway at Newcastle Airport

 

Nearly 200 passengers have been evacuated from a plane after it came off the runway at Newcastle Airport.

 

Tyne and Wear Fire Service said the aircraft "had gone very slightly off the runway" but remained on the asphalt.

 

No one was in injured in the incident, group manager Keith Carruthers said.

 

Regular firefighters assisted the dedicated airport fire service with the emergency, which happened on an incoming Boeing 737 shortly after 9pm. Mr Carruthers said they helped 196 passengers to disembark using the stairs.

 

He said: "There were no injuries reported from any of the passengers. They seemed fine in all honesty, it's just they were disembarking in a different position. Most of them did not realise anything was different.

Full flight: 189 pax + 1 infant...

 

A Thomson Boeing 737-800, registration G-FDZR performing flight BY-1445 from Lanzarote,CI (Spain) to Newcastle,EN (UK) with 189 passengers, overran runway 07 while landing at Newcastle at 20:52L (20:52Z). The airplane came to a stop on the paved surface of the runway end safety area. No injuries and no damage occurred.

 

The passengers disembarked onto the runway via mobile stairs and were bussed to the terminal.

 

The airport was closed for about 3 hours until the airplane was towed off the runway.

The airport said, the airplane came to a halt at the eastern side of the runway. Emergency services reported the airplane came to a stop still on the paved surface.

 

Passengers reported, that the airplane needed to hold for about 10 minutes until a snow plough had cleared the runway.
