Mitsubishi Heavy To Build Miami Airport Transit

October 3, 2008

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has won an order to build a driverless people mover system at Miami International Airport with two US companies for about JPY27.4 billion yen, according to Nikkei Business News.

A report, sourcing Mitsubishi Heavy, said the train-like system would be about 2 km long, connecting airport terminals with commuter train stations. It said construction would be completed by September 2011, replacing buses.

The contract, including track construction and delivery of signal systems and rubber-tire cars, will be fulfilled by Mitsubishi Heavy, consulting firm Parsons and Odebrecht Construction, a subsidiary of Brazilian general contractor Construtors Norberto Odebrecht, the report said.

The report said the group also expects to win a contract for operating and maintaining the system for up to 15 years, adding that Mitsubishi Heavy has delivered such systems in other countries including Singapore and United Arab Emirates.
