  1. SQ is supposed to start SIN-DME-IAH 4x weekly with 77W! bloody hell. MH is still pissing around pretending they don't need to be in an alliance....relying on codeshares instead. Of all the carriers - MH definitely needs to be in an alliance - to remain profitable and for KUL to become somewhat of a hub in this region. without it, KUL will continue to lose out in terms of growth - we already are fourth in the region after BKK,SIN and CGK!! EK doesn't need to join an alliance - MH is not in the same position as them...being a 'primarily leisure' airline - according to our esteemed IJ. This reminds me of the time when MSA split and the Malaysian government decided that we were too small to support international routes - therefore opting to take F27s and 737s to service domestic and some regional routes. On the other hand, SQ decided to take the bull by its horns and continue aggressive international expansion. Its a matter of choice - IJ has given up and relegated MH to somewhere in between AK and TG. Hence five star with low cost. what a stupid statement.
  2. that is a good idea. don't know what the roads will be like unless u drive there the night before
  3. wear a suit man. if you want a job, be smart! its not overkill
  4. good luck victor! i'm sure you'll do just fine!
  5. agree with BC Tam, Changi is at least 20 years ahead of us. we were left behind ages ago - most of the international routes were given away to singapore at the time of MSA splitting. Singapore WAS OUR main hub. when it became a different country, we were left with simpang airport. singapore was the major port and centre of commerce. KL was a shithole. no one wanted to fly to KUL. in the 80s - KUL had 27 airlines serving it. SIN already had 50 or more ...including Air Canada, air seychelles, air france, air niugini, CAAC, interflug, tarom, alitalia, NW, UA, olympic etc etc etc. we missed the boat by a few years. after the financial crisis etc etc - India/China opened up and ALL airlines were rushing to fly there. KULs offers of free landing fees etc etc where peanuts compared to the opportunities there to make a killing. we are just a little too late.
  6. congratulations Yohan. i hope you get the job, insyaAllah. some tips - dress smartly. wear a suit. cut your hair. look smart. sit forward, look interested. don't slouch. don't fidget. first impressions count. what you say early on will make a difference. sometimes its too late if you do a comeback later on in the interview as some people already have made their minds up - or switched off completely. be enthusiastic. know why you want the job and why you want to work for SQ. know about SQ and the job. make sure that THEY know you REALLY really want the job. think of important questions they may ask you. i'm not the best person on that - so ask around - leech etc etc. who are already SQ pilots. think of answers to the common questions. need to be prepared and not look like rabbits caught in headlights when they ask you something. also think of reasons WHY they should pick YOU rather than anyone else. you don't always have to come up with an amazing or unique answer - the important point is that you say it with enthusiasm, confidence and sincerity. Just relax and be yourself. Good luck and you'll do fine. Hope you find this helpful. LAST OF ALL - PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!
  7. welcome to five star at low cost. with the internet - more and more people can now see what crap MH is dishing out. how embarrasing. especially when you rip off customers to get more cash. lets see what happens to the BTP when they run out of things to sell and customers to pay the high prices for low cost services. IJ should really take note and not sit down spewing stupid press statements about how he saved the airline. i would like to know how he will be able to maintain his profits in a few years time.
  8. its not bad la but when you pay through your ass...it is very painful. fly EK or SQ!
  9. For sure it will be AMS, LHR and SYD. CDG may be a possibility as their loads there are quite good. I don't know about FRA. They couldn't fill up a daily 772 so unless they step up their marketing and win over more pax - FRA will not get the A380. you're right - MEL probably will be difficult as they have downgraded it. Even SYD has been downgraded as 4 flights continue on to BNE. I cannot see how MH can't make Australia work. We used to be just behind SQ in terms of flights...now we are far behind EK and SQ. TG will soon overtake MH too. What are they doing? once they start pulling out or cutting services to important destinations, others will move in quickly. It is very very difficult to regain lost ground especially if others are serving with multiple frequencies on newer aircraft with cheaper tickets and better services! that was a mouthful!
  10. slight modification from the original plan which planned to have a mirror MTB and another 2 satellite buildings. five runways was the total that they planned - this will let them serve 100 million pax/year.
  11. i wouldn't mind a snack box if the sandwiches were of a bigger portion and looked tasty. MH is taking the piss. Stuff it in IJs face as KK said and see if he'll tolerate his capsicum 'sandwic' everyday. d10t.
  12. RMAF needs some AEW aircraft....like the Hawkeye used by RSAF
  13. kc sim...nice shots. brings back the old memories of Subang airport with the IL62s of Aeroflot, Czechoslovakian airlines and LOT. good ol' days. what about this air astana meeting...its not about flying to malaysia or singapore is it? we used to have kyrgystan airlines and air kazakhstan before they became 'extinct' ...
  14. BUy travel insurance NOW. if you miss the flight ...i am sure you can at least get something back. in response to Liew's post - SIN is a different kettle of fish than KUL. I would allow MORE time for things to work. SIN has a reputation to defend - KUL doesn't give a damn.
  15. This will be the end of KLIA's hopes of being a hub. They did it once - bring KLIA's pax traffic to 14million/year. LH, BA, NW, NH, QF etc etc left at that time. You can be sure BA will forget about flying to KUL once they split ops again...
  16. we need about five superhornets. they would be fitted with extra fuel tanks painted to look like AGM-65s and then used to perform merdeka fly past once a year. also to buzz pulau batu puteh should we lose it to the singaporeans.
  17. the reason MH stopped flights from europe to LGK,PEN and KCH was that most passengers were low yield leisure or students returning home. All the LHR-KUL flights via PEN,LGK were avoided by business travellers, making it untenable for MH
  18. hahaha...very sarcastic and cynical comment from Rozhan. However - it is very very true. After all, this is Bolehsia (sounds very much like bohsia) - this country has been raped and pillaged by the powers that be. And i seriously doubt if it will change if the opposition takes over. 'Somehow it seemed as though the farm had grown richer without making the animals themselves any richer— except, of course, for the pigs and the dogs.' Animal Farm
  19. MH's problem is that they don't LISTEN. the higher prices will drive away the pax to other airlines who have a one-stop service to KUL. i am one of them. IJ thinks that he is smart - but increasing prices and selling planes is only a short term measure for an airline with crap financial standing.
  20. Yes there are a few more reasons why airlines prefer BKK - thailand has a population of 60 million - plus it is an important entry point to Indochina which includes vietnam (population 80 million). I don't think Thailand has much more to offer than us - unless you factor in the thriving sex industry. that is a major draw for europeans... so tell me isaac - what does thailand have to offer than we can't? i would like to know as I only have been to BKK (which i hated!)
  21. lets hope that Qantas doesn't abandon KUL again. I would love to see long haul flights from KUL to Europe/Middle East with Jetstar. More choice - also will give TF a run for his money. Which is even better for cutting prices further.
  22. Hahaha...its the same in the UK. Foreigners like myself like to travel to EDI or GLA or MAN rather than LHR as the immigration people are much nicer. it is also faster. In IPH - i think it may also mean that they don't mind accepting 'gifts'. Each to their own imagination! Don't worry - soon we will be able to fly with DC10 and 747s into the ultra modern Taiping international airport/hospital. IPH has been forgotten a long long time ago. its been relegated to the same status as Kangar, seremban as state capitals without a significant airport. Even batu berendam is being expanded! As for Sriwijaya - lets see how long they last - looking at Riau airlines, jatayu and top air, i don't have much hope for them to be still around next year! who knows?
  23. I'm sure MH will be able to fill the A380s- on a much smaller scale than EK. As mentioned above - LHR, AMS - KUL - Australia (maybe NZ) can be filled up. AMS and LHR to KUL is underserved - there is a huge demand for flights. They are often overbooked, especially at peak periods. The problem is that France and Germany (combined population of 140 million) have a huge market which is waiting to be served. If thailand ( a lot of leisure traffic) and singapore (combined transit, leisure and business) can benefit from that i don't know why we can't. its simply a matter of good promotion and marketing skills. CDG may even be served with an A380 - MH needs to make the most of the opportunities there. Why fly AF/QF via SIN to australia when you can fly MH via KUL (five star with low cost)? hmm.. i wonder. FRA is an important financial centre in Germany - also a major airline hub. I know SQ and TG are star alliance members but why can't MH fill 5 weekly 772s?? Malaysia is just as good a tourist destination as thailand...i suppose Thailand also has its 'other' attractions... Malaysia is an excellent destination for families/couples on holiday - if only Tourism Malaysia would spend its cash properly and attract more tourists from Europe rather than just concentrate on the Asian region. Another problem is that many more tourists visit Malaysia than Thailand or singapore but a vast majority actually come from south of the causeway overland (Singaporeans and other foreign tourists who use SIN as an entry point). We need them to come via KUL and then travel south to SIN.... If not, KUL is destined to be a satellite of SIN - providing LCC feed to SIN from around the region.
  24. MH has lost a significant number of passengers to AK. we used to carry more pax/year than SQ...this has now been reversed. I doubt that MH will ever reach SQ or EK's level after the ASEAN open skies agreement and the expansion of LCC travel in this region.
