  1. Well, Ive met many people here (granted its anecdotal evidence) but many people love KL and Malaysia. Im sure they would return (I know many who have already done so).

There is a popular restaurant here called chilli padi and the whole of Newcastle raves about it. Always packed.

Malaysia needs proper promotion - there is none at the moment that I can see. Has to be the same as it was in the 80s and 90s. Without aggressive promotion, we will lose our.

  2. Even when TF put jibby on his plane just before the elections, and then had to shamefully backtrack after BN lost - the current government has allowed him to thrive. The whole point of it is that he should have made KUL the connecting hub for the whole Air Asia group. It would have worked. Even channel passengers from Europe via KUL elsewhere. But he wanted to control everything, everywhere ....so now hes neglecting his base airline.

Sad story. Even with his Labu labi airport, he would have done the same.

  3. I dont know that Thailand is so much better than Malaysia - we are not doing the promotions enough. Tourism ministry has been squandering their money on other things. If you compare with the early 2000s, there is hardly any promotion in U.K. and Europe. This is where you get the higher yielding tourists. Even now Philippines and Vietnam are so much better at tourism promotion on social media.

  4. Ive flown thomas cook A330-200 from MAN to MCO... flew premium economy one way and economy the other. The recline was not great but it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be! The crew were great and the food was alright.

It was cheaper than VS and BA

  5. Trade between Germany and Malaysia is smaller than neighbouring countries. Without daily flight, business traveller would choose to use me3, BKK and sin.

Im not sure that is right. The figures I read online are that total trade between Malaysia and Germany are around EUR14 billion similar to EUR14 billion for Singapore.

  7. Chris - I dont know the figures for O&D vs connecting traffic between SIN and CGK. I always assumed that the wealthy Indonesians loved going to Singapore to connect elsewhere (on top of those going to Singapore for business/leisure). Do you know that for a fact?

Even if there werent as many travelling to KUL as O&D, I felt that MH could have positioned itself a bit better as an airline connecting Indonesia to the rest of the world.

Which airline doesn't want to serve as many feasible destinations as possible?

Well, ask yourself why. If the domestic market were large and high-yield enough it wouldn't need to be subsidised. When was the last time you paid hundreds of dollars on a domestic ticket in Malaysia?

Not sure I understand your argument. SQ maintains F to CGK because of the number of wealthy business travellers who commute to and from SIN.

There's just a lot more O&D traffic between Singapore and Jakarta (enough for SQ to sustain 8 daily widebody flights), and connecting traffic is only part of the story.

If there aren't as many people who need to travel between Jakarta and KL, I'm not sure how this is a loss for MH.

  8. Well, SQ has an even larger domestic market, Indonesia!

MH did not see that in the early days while SQ moved in slowly and surely! Huge population and a growing middle class. This is why they have a first class service on their multiple daily flights to cGK!

Retrospectively its easy to say, I know, but hell, its a no brainer.

  9. Well, they hastily cut their European routes which, albeit was loss-making, fed into their network at the other end. Now they have nothing coming from Europe apart from LHR. They then decided to collaborate with EK for their European flights. We realised that was a problem after our dear CM destroyed MH in Europe and the ran off to work for EK!

Then their misplaced strategy of concentrating on China to Australia flights .... look at how many airlines and P2P routes there are, just with Chinese and other Far Eastern carriers. MH is not the only one - it already has a bad reputation in China following the unfortunately loss of MH370. I keep repeating this because I feel this has been a huge mistake. But who am I apart from another keyboard warrior. Ive supported our national carrier so much for the past 30 or so years but I dont know now. Its perhaps time to sell them off so that they can be managed efficiently as a private concern, rather than allowing them to be milked to death by politicians. Shutting it down and restarting is not going to work as long as it remains a GLC.

  10. Narrowbodies will soon dominate medium range flights for airlines that cannot fill wide bodies on these sectors. If the cabin is properly configured for medium haul flights, it should be quite comfortable. It will also help MH on those routes that are too thin for the A330s.

Max 8's featuring the current 738 LCCesque configuration is OK for short ASEAN and domestic flights should also help MH achieve good economics.

Clearly, MH is not in SQ's league - haven't they learnt that lesson from their A380 episode? There isn't much point in trying to keep up with the Jones'. People who fly SQ will not bother looking at MH. Even CX has admitted that the Malaysian market is too price sensitive for them - they came to the conclusion that a premium CX service is not required for Malaysian routes. So MH should focus its products to serve a market that is value based rather than prestige based.

Well, it is a big ridiculous for CX - they fly to the rest of ASEAN with their Cathay Pacific brand but Malaysia is singled out for Cathay Dragon. Yes, we are price sensitive but I find it hard to believe that a relatively affluent country (compared to Vietnam, phillipines etc etc) cant sustain a CX service.

Maybe AK was too successful in lowering costs to these current levels? I dont know...

  11.

Oh dear !! How unhygienic if there is truth to it !!! Any source?

On another note, the reason why KLIA2 has aerobridges is because of the enforcement of anti-people smuggling, which was initiated and mooted by the MoT and DCAM previously. I don't think AK and D7 have anything to do with that enforcement.

Speaking of service quality, I don't see any positive outcome from their hyped up improvements. Please visit the toilets at KLIA1 and you will see how filthy the toilets are; now that is not the fault of the operators entirely, the people who use it also play a part in the upkeep of the toilets. Just have a look at our malls and the way the people use it, bidets in the toilet bowl, tissues everywhere on the floor, pee and other remanence in and outside the toilet bowl, rubbish in the sink, plastic stuffed into the toilet bowl and etc. Having said that, the operators of the airport do not maintain them well, using really cheap detergents, lack of toilet rolls, unrepaired bidet and etc. The lights in KLIA1 are so dim at night and poor air-conditioning at both KLIA1 and KLIA2 (cost saving measures). If any of you notice, the observation deck or area is very warm throughout the day. In Changi T1, I can sit at the observation deck/area the whole day if I could comfortably. Parking lot at KLIA1 has just gotten more and more difficult for regular passengers or picking up as they have now converted the L2 for premium parking. Ancillary income perhaps :nea:

Customer services at both the terminals are not at its best. They can do better, customer centric or a simple smile and courtesy can go a long way. However, our front liners are either grumpy or think the world owes them a living, poor manners. What standards are they referring to? What kind of benchmark are they focused on? Who assesses their service standards? How is it that they hype up their services when it does not tally with the realities? Oh well, just my point of view based on my own experience traveling through KUL. Honestly, I used to support KUL and our national carrier, maybe even claim to be their number one supporter myself :nea: but now I cannot say the same because of uncountable negative encounters. Let's hope 2019 will bring about some change. :aggressive:

This! 100% agree with all of the above
