  1. But will it at least reduce government intervention into their operations? True, though MH seems to be making decisions by itself, independent of g'ment. It's clinging on to g'ment to get a hold of its goodiees (subsidy, etc.) Correct me if I'm wrong. Pardon me for the failed quote
  2. MH will never be privatised, simply because it cant survive in the adverse market it's in with competition from AK/D7. MH is simply in a league of its own as it calls itself a "5-star value carrier". It probably won't survive as a full-fledged 5-star carrier like CX, SQ, TG, QR and now the threat from GA, without getting loads of g'ment subsidies. Furthermore, M'sia isn't a premium traveler destination yet. KL is not a world-financial hub like S'pore, HK or even Bangkok for that matter. Then again, MH could attract premium transit travelers thru the Kangaroo route, but again, it's saturated with other carriers. The asian market is simply saturated with such airlines. Truth is, the real competition is from AK. Unfortunately, MH has been unable to break that premium oligopoly from other carriers in the asia-pacific market and in some ways has missed the opportunity to do so, and again, it's rather saturated making it even more difficult. Even SQ feels the AK threat and is trying to grab those LCC travelers, but can still cling on to its solid premium market. Then again, MH adopt a low-cost no frills model, which is quite far-fetched. To make myself clearer, MH survives because it can offer cheaper rates than its 5-star competitors, which come from its g'ment subsidies. This will always be the case unless it breaks itself into the 5-star stratosphere, which is quite a bleak prospect.
  3. Haha, one of that fakdnflanl korean foods, Tell you the truth, I'm a Krisflyer guy, so it's pretty much either SQ for long-haul and of course MH for regional. Skyteam miles, won't really do because I don't travel skyteam and US domestic doesn't matter. I don't travel to the US for work. Last time it was a last minute UA booking, SIN-NRT-SEA-DEN. Previous to that it was pretty much SQ through EWR or VS through LHR and MIA routes, but those were in summer when the weather wasn;t much of a concern. But my golly, that's generous, TWO CARDS!! I've chcecked, KE fares are generally quite reasonable and as you said value for money but IDK what I'm going to use the miles for, unless I use it on GA to DPS when they become "Skyteamed", lol. Though, we're trying to look for a European stopover for a well deserved holiday. See first lah What about EK, like through IAH, because that's I can get into EKs programme, since I use them fairly frequently. (2x yearly)
  4. Thought of that, but a Korean stopover isn't what the family wants unfortunately. And, I can't get the miles. Though, yup this is the most sensible route.
  5. Yo, I need to get to SJU in December for a family function. Given the obscure nature of SJU in the part of the world I'm in, it'll require some challenges. Going up with family from SIN, so essentially my journey starts in SIN. Preferably a stop in Europe to break the journey on the way back, but given it's in December there's the risk of snowstorms in northern European airports. Any suggestions? Here are some routes that I've thought've SIN-ZRH-MIA-SJU (SQ, LX & any US domestic carrier) SIN- BCN (SQ) (train to MAD) MAD-ATL- SJU (DL)
  6. The aircraft will probably arrive in 2012 but will be operational in June, given that MH will need to perform test flights and so on. Then again, this is only my guess. Airbus might be playing it safe and guaranteeing it'll come in June, given the string of delays, but hey, look at the A330?
  7. So far, none The earliest are the A330s which will be gradually phased out from next year. Then again, I can't verify which reg.
  8. There's been a lot of curiosity of the MH A380 cabin, so I thought it'd be nice to consolidate our speculations, aspirations, both cyncical and wild dreams that we may have, and perhaps some classified information that we may have gotten. Again, It's just for us to consolidate our predictions and aspirations for the up and coming MH A380, that MAS say will be A SURPRISE FOR ALL OF US. Anyways, before you read my prediction, I'll admit that I am biased. I'd fly SQ or CX any day. So, based on the scattered information i've found, here's what I think: F- Similar to those on the 744 just that they'll have doors around them, more updated technology and spruced up w/c s. My guess is that it will be a Malaysian version of the SQ suite, w/o the bed, but it'll look closer to that of EK without all the glitz and glamour. j- It'll look very similar to LH (2-2-2). My guess is that it'll be one of those huge legroom seats but super narrow for an A380 J (much like QF). My guess is that it will look cheap with grey plastic paneling and certain won't look at all elegant or refined and will probably be missing those extra fixtures. It'll be no where near SQs superb J (see I'm biased). I'm just certain that skytrax users will all say that it's terrible to get out of if your at the window. Ultimately, it'll be like a plethora of other J seats, just mediocre. MH will boast that it's a lie-flat and that it just can't be beaten now, though we know otherwise. Y+- Essentially be a copy-cat of the B738 J seats y- Exactly the same as the new A333 Y seats, just that it'll have cupholders and footrests (Though i think I'm being a bit too hopeful here) And then there's the question if it'll have EK showers or bar, or QF snack bars or KE duty free, all of these industry changers and new heights of aviation; I'm guessing MHs' response will be 'Takde!!! Ade lie-flat and class beyond first ape?? Surprise =)" Right, that's a biased and cynical take on things, though hope I'm not being harsh on MH, but I personally believe it needs to know the truth that it's place on top is lying from a thread. They are after all my choice of airline for regional travel =)
