  1. Another view of F-GZND's approach to Changi Airport this evening . . . I must admit that although I was not previously a fan of the revised livery (judging from pictures), I am now a convert. I do like this livery - especially the AIRFRANCE title.

Another colourful visitor which seems to be popping in twice-weekly of late is China Eastern Airlines' A340-600 in Expo 2010 livery.

Ahah, I know someone must definitely be spotting on such a fine Sunday evening (I assume thanks to the heavy early morning rain) at Changi Beach 20R Approach. Sorry KC I couldn't spot you from flight deck as I was busy hand flying as SQ617 from KIX. IF you have SRH on hand, can you please post it here? I did see A346 parking at T3 after vacating but didnt see AFB77W. Thanks KC.

  2. RJAA RWY 34L/16R reopened as of 0000 GMT 24032009. Watched the footage of the crash yesterday morning. Chilling feel down my spine as the image keep repeating in my mind. First time the a/c touched down on tarmac it was very very heavy landing and it bounced back up in the air and subsequently did a wheel barrow nose gear first before bouncing second time and flipped to the left. Not sure how much fuel left in tanks. Could not be very much as the fire fighters put it out in three hours. To get such a heavy landing, my thoughts are it could be a severe microburst initially. Let's wait for the investigation report.

  3. Thanks guys. Glad to know that you like the shots. Here are some more to share on a boring Saturday afternoon lazing at home.

The most stressful part of a flight. Engines working hard. Pilot also concentrating hard to maintain centreline, rotate correctly and prepare for the eventuality of an engine failure.

    mw210hx1.jpg

And a few seconds later, this is the view. Love the shiny reflection on the wings. About time for a paint job to upgrade to revised livery. Regional workhorse really working hard until the paint is scrapping off from its body. Or the cleaners scrub too hard during bath time??....

These guys in the cockpit are really hardworking. They fly in and out many sectors a day. But they do go rewarded well as my compatriots of same rank, they earn more Singapore dollars than I do. This is dedicated to all the three female co-pilots in Silkair that were doing our ab-initio training in Perth. And congratulations on your third gold bar recently.

Still a couple of numbers away. Arghh........my wait for the Panda continues. I only hope that Panda will not suffer the same fate as Heliconia aka Spiderman (MRD).

This one is for all the Aussie blokes out there. Gibby, I just had my Perth taken away from my roster. Supposed to be there end of this month. In return to give me a MAA turnaround at midnight. My rostering department do loves me a lot. :finger:

And when my Nikon is in the hangar serving its C check, the weather in Singapore is decidingly super fine with great sunlight. My a## luck really. Hope to see some contribution from Singapore based guys over here. Cheers and have a nice weekend. :drinks:

  4. Paging for our Japanese resident but Thai born Mr. YK. Thank you so much and very much for your directions to Sakurayama park in April. And also for direction and tips for Haneda. As a Japanese appreciation, here is the only salvagable shot I have from my entire trip (I set very high standards for my ownself). Haneda pictures all showed up with terrible heat haze whilst weather was totally uncooperative whilst I was in Narita. Nevertheless I totally enjoyed myself under the blossoming Sakura trees in early April and also with the presence of so many Japanese spotters, young and old alike.

Dedicated to YK. Northwest A330 turning in for lineup and takeoff from Runway 16R (long runway). Only time when there was a glimmer of good light. NWA really has a huge presence in Tokyo, Narita. It has a really large fleet of passenger and cargo aircraft there.

Thanks for viewing. I hope to get something on my trip to Nagoya come end of this month.

  5. What happen to your darkside Lee?

Yeap, can't help but to ask what happen to your DSLR ?

Hot pixels. Quite a few. Fragmentation required and will take 7 working days. Sigh. Will miss my Darkside during my week long MXP-BCN trip tomorrow night.

    Hoe Jyh,

Thanks for your clarification. Anything does for SQ engines as long as it is a non RR for the 330s. Too bad, I know it is going to happen anyway.

  6. Singapore thread has been very quiet lately. Even dropped to page two. So let me help it push back to page one. Here are a few backdated shots taken in April this year when Runway 02L/02C was still in used.

From the morning session along coastal road.

A breathtaking scenery, color and plane in front of me. Too bad that 20C now doesn't provide too much good photograph opportunity like this due to a localizer housing facility and the ever dreaded No Entry Sign. And oh yes, weather is a bit like oil price over here these days, especially in the mornings. Volatile.

    mw200ns2.jpg

Have been hunting this guy for a good shot for a couple of weeks before I managed a good shot in reasonable lighting. Lovely A300-600F. Always a fan of Airbus nose, A380 exempted. Could be PEN or HKG bound but its terribly light to have reached this height at point of shutter release.

    mw220ez1.jpg

    From the afternoon-evening session.

The best thing about spotting in Singapore is not only you get to see a lot of SIA aeroplanes, but a whole lot of other traffic from other international airlines. So this works well for Simon if he does indeed come over for a spotting session. Here is the first shot of a SIA B744 SPI coming in for landing 02L. SPI means Singapore Performance Index. Since I came here, I have learnt that everyone's job performance, salary increment, promotion and bonuses is measured by this term.

    mw240qt2.jpg

We in Singapore will still get to see this beast for quite sometime since JAL has no plans to replace this beast with an A3UGLY. Which suits me fine since it is so photogenic.

    mw210el0.jpg

The least colorful of the Indian arrivals. Somehow I noticed that Jet Airways do send in their B737NG fleet here in the morning. From far, it does looks like an SQ plane. Hmm, perhaps a preview of what it looks like in SQ colors comes end of this year. This one looks better with a PW engine combination. The RR looks awful with a long engine cowling.

    mw250vb4.jpg

Hope you guys enjoyed it. Will edit more later as camera is in C check and I am at home with nothing to do.

  7. Do agree , but it all comes in the end to whether or not the pilot itself is really flying for the sake of his/her interest in flying rather than the salary factor. Those who love their job because they love flying tend to be better prepared for anything than those who just fly for the sake of earning an income.

Some may not agree with me, but thats how i see it. :pardon:

Well said. I belong to the former category whilst many many of my colleagues here are of the latter category. I really respect them how do they manage to get up and fly through the middle of the night and getting grilled by instructors during training when money is the only motivation for flying. I could not do it for sure.

Norman, you got DX crop factor 1.5 times. And easily can get a good shot with TK's 80-400mm. Hehehe. My canon cannot hand holding. Above MTOW.

  8. Oh my bad, sorry sorry. Credits to you Terrence. My bad mistake. Must be too hard at work. Too many turn arounds and lack of rest. Tiredness setting in.

Err, D3 is indeed very short lah. Not very good for spotting actually. And too busy flying everyday and most of the time lousy weather and busy with house reno.

  9. Rejected Takeoff (RTO) accident. Interesting. Didn't the computation of V1 speed ensures enough runway length in case of reject with full braking for all variable weights? Yes, pilot skills deficiency and time lapse can be factored in but not to the point of such damage. Any captains want to give a take to reject a takeoff decision with tyre burst/failure? IMO, low speed equals reject. High speed?? Heavy weight?? I think its better to GO and lift off and sort it out in the air and reduce weight and return to land. Albeit with some form of directional control loss which is manageable with low landing speeds. Hope to see some interesting replies from pilots here.

  10. Here are the rest of the shots from this Saturday evening. All shot in golden lighting and dimming light. Hope I really get the colors right this time. Enjoy.

Another shot of Saudi from a different angle. Love the Rolls Royce engines.

    mw100no0.jpg

My flying office. Golden sunshine on golden stripes. Not so good looking Rolls Royce without the badge.

    mw130is7.jpg

Qantas Kangaroo hoping into Singapore in very late afternoon light. Olympic logo on engine cowlings. Any idea why? Official carrier for Australia National team? Isn't all national carriers their official carriers?

    mw140gg4.jpg

Check out the Perth thread. When will these guys ever learn about doing it right in aviation. No offense to all the Indonesians, but something ought to be done about safety.

    mw110pl4.jpg

No joy with hair dryers today. Numerical registration instead of alphabetical rego.

    mw120by7.jpg

Hopefully weather is good tomorrow. Thanks for viewing.
