If they denied the AOC, they’d be accused of protectionism by the general public who clamour for cheaper fares. It’s just impossible to please everyone.

Had an argument about this with a school friend a while back about reliability and quality. It seems for him guaranteed cheap ticket outweighs all issues cause to him flying should be affordable even to the hardcore poor.

Its the same reason Ryanair ceo says he does not mind putting out standing seats in planes and removing toilets to pull down prices.

Manufacturers designing an ass to face seat config which currently is on trial and waiting regulatory approval(hopefully this gets thrown out).

Some even flag the idea of forced induced sleep/coma if there's a chance ticket price can be lowered.

World Gov's pushing the idea of seat flooding and unchecked competition but when s#1t unfolds majority would go into hiding. The Thomas Cook and Monarch issue while almost everyone has been sorted(getting to their destination/refund from other chartered airlines on behalf of the UK gov), people still missed their appointments, holiday trips.

  2. MYAirline just ‘disappeared’, says Loke

KUALA LUMPUR: Transport minister Loke Siew Fook has criticised MYAirline’s decision to suspend its operations earlier today, calling the low-cost carrier’s actions “irresponsible” and “unacceptable”.

He said the transport ministry and Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) were caught by surprise with the “abrupt” decision as they were not given any prior notice.

Loke said the suspension has affected 125,000 MYAirline passengers who had already purchased RM20 million worth of tickets until March 2024.

“Their decision to suspend operations is unacceptable and shocking to all of us,” Loke said at a press conference in Parliament.

“MYAirline just disappeared. They stopped their operations, and not only were their planes not flying, but their staff were also nowhere to be found at the airport.

“There were no representatives at all (at the airport). (This is) irresponsible behaviour.”

Earlier today, MYAirline said it had to suspend its operations immediately because of significant financial pressures.

Calling the decision “extremely painful”, it added that it had no timeline on resuming operations – which was dependent on shareholder restructuring and recapitalisation of the airline.

    MORE TO COME

It seems strange that a start up airline has run out of cashflow not even one year into its operations. It shows that their financial planning and management is not up to scratch. Should we be also doubting the quality of this company in other areas of its operations?

The aviation scene in msia is a very cut throat environment its been repeatedly stated by mavcom that there is excess capacity and poor yields while costs aren't going down as a whole globally. Its not the good old days of rm2 success story plus no competition.

So in this case there is need for consistent financial pump to weather out anything and that can take up to years which some investors will not understand. Rayani had the wrong thing as well.

I am surprised washing dirty money couldn't sustain the business. Interesting.....

Initial seed funds were okay. Problem were them taking aircrafts at an expedited rate and same time paying high salary rate(heard it was highest paid in msia). If they are to maintain these sort of routine in the long run they need ample amount of continuous funds inserted until the fleet number stabilizes or try to maximise the sales yields(increasing ticket costs). Seems they're now prioritizing seeking new cash support to avoid delaying/adjusting salaries and maintaining aircraft delivery status quo.

  5. MYAirline CEO resigns?

It remains unclear on why Teo had resigned but MYAirline had also recently lost a number of its top executives including its chief financial officer and chief commercial officer.

There were also talks that the carrier is facing financial issues as payments to its services providers were either delayed or remained unpaid as at time of writing.

Staff salaries were also not paid on time for several months.

Sadly, more local talent are leaving/ will leave for greener pasture. The issue will get even more critical soon as ME airlines have hundreds of new aircraft on delivery. Malaysia Airlines, Batik, AirAsia and MYAirlines are basically training their staff for airlines in the ME.

Whatever ME is doing its not really ethical looking as a whole especially when they can just omit any bond you owe to your current company, rm150-200k is water for them. But the local asean aviation industry is also at fault for the lackluster pay and benefit trying to facilitate affordable air travel acting oblivious each time manpower situation occurs to a point increased rescheduling % is an acceptable sacrifice.

Indonesia tried to do a bit of prevention(hours gathered not recognized) but people still leave as the money gathered few years is enough to warrant an early retirement even after tax by indonesia.

Its a reason why down under got very cautious with letting in gulfs. At ol murica they been barking about it but their very own local customers always talk how great gulf is and blaming american carriers for bailouts while turning a blind eye how much waiver and support the gulfs received from their respective govs for 2 decades. I've seen americans asking gulfs to takeover domestic flights in america thinking the situation would improve.

Nah, that rumour on late salary is false. Don't believe whatever you have heard. They have signed up another 17 A320ceo earlier this year for delivery in the next 24 months. They are wash with "cash" if you know the shareholders' background well. They are merely realigning their aircraft utilisation to match the route demand. With Sibu and Miri temporarily suspended, BKK maybe on the way out, they can start Jakarta, Singapore, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City sooner. The good thing is they are capturing passengers who are jaded with Batik or AirAsia. AirAsia is finding hard to push their sales nowadays.

Had 2 friends in Myairline who had their salaries delayed twice(still within legal limit of 1 month delay before it can spook the labor dept) for it to happen twice and both seems to concide with aircraft delivery does not really seem good. On operations side 1 left for gulf.

Currently the closest A321neo example will be SAS's A321neoLR:

Route: Copenhagen, Denmark to Washington DC, USA

Total distance: 4,074 miles (6,557 km)

    Total time: 9hr 30mins

    Seat configuration: 157 seats (C22 W12 Y123)

    SK_32Q.png

For low cost front, Wizz Air Hungary previously planned to use its A321neo:

Route: Abu Dhabi, UAE to Milan, Italy

    Total distance: 2,932 miles (4,719km)

    Total time: 7hr 20mins

     Seat configuration: 239 seats

    airbus_a321_neo_seatmap_21cd3564.jpg

    Nice comparison.

    Also just saw a lessor re-possession of 2 a320neo.

It seems empty ferry fully fueled the a320neo could do almost 10hours. The a321neo and more could probably do 12-13hours ferrying which is crazy.

  9. Believe the range has been reduced by 200nmi or more due to some fuel tank pipping concern.

    A321NEO 3500nmi
A321NEO LR 4000nmi(addition of 3 external fuel tanks)
A321NEO XLR 4700nmi(on top of 3 external fuel tanks the main fuel tank is enlarged, strengthened main gear to support extra weight)(safety concerns with fuel pipping planned reduction to 4500nmi instead)

Ranges are for configuration of 206-220 passengers. D7's high density config may actually hinder a large number of the range by almost 500nmi.  Meanwhile Airasia's a321neo range seems to hover around 3000nmi with 240 passengers without the extra fuel tanks.

The problem with MH is that they are opaque and we don't know how much cargo it is carrying and whether the route is profitable and sustainable.

Remember the days when MH had B777s? Who would have thought that most of their routes were running at a loss? They are flown for reasons other than good business!

TPE is an occasional cargo heavy segment for MH mainly carrying electronics for the A330 and fresh goods for the 738. Once in a while they'll be medical equipment, construction material and agricultural related equipment and livestock feed. There's a report that some of the flights could make profit with just 30% passenger load as long the special cargo consignment is consistently above 9tonnes per flight for widebody and it has still been the case.  Other similar sectors in terms of cargo are NRT, PVG, and PEK. Then there's also then shoopee lazada parcels but those are usually carried by other airlines as well.

The B772's are a fuel gauzzler for todays aviation with the only advantage over the A330 being the range and crew bunk design for long haul or to max out the payload cargo which in today's market not many airlines are willing to do unless they're a dedicated freight operator like fedex dhl. The A359 has a near 17% cost advantage over the b777. Another additional advantage is on the A330 and B789.

The issue back then with old MH via Maskargo, there were not keen to do low volume passenger belly segment frequently on the 734s and old a333s etc. I think it was only 2012 that there were attempts to gradually overhaul to what we got today especially with all the certification and rating. They cant rely solely on assembling up cargo when the volume suffice and then to slot them on the dc10f, b747fs, a300f to do the cargo. Nowadays the volume is smaller but more frequent rarely exceeding 20tonnes on each flights.  Its one of the reasons why there was a downturn where SQ trim out a large number of B747converted freighters while MH disposes the 2 b744fs.

The Covid pandemic also taught many airlines the importance of P2C and certifying large variety of stuff to carry.

Why do they need widebodies for 4 hour flights? Does it look like they may be preparing for a merger with D7? The regional version of the A339 would be suitable but I am not sure if the economics of operating that type of aircraft is as good as that of the A321N unless carrying cargo is going to become more important in AK flights. But that would slow down turnaround times.

Slots are limited for some of the sectors. 240 pax vs 377 can make a lot of difference on peak timing.

Australia begins investigating two runway excursions at Melbourne Airport

    https://www.aerotime.aero/articles/atsb-mel-runway-exc

The Australian Transportation Board (ATSB) detailed that two separate runway excursions have led to Melbourne Airport (MEL) stopping runway overlay works.

No brainer seeing MEL and SYD runway length was temporary shorten to something about 2000meters(shorter than the extended runway at Sandakan 2500meters) occasionally on certain daytime periods. An aircraft needing to do flights of more than 4hours plus fully loaded with passengers would be risking overrun plus bonus risk if ground temperature exceeds 30c.

Standard Autopilot position the gov will have. "This is a dispute between 2 commercial party we will not interfere." Consumers and frontline staffs will just bear the brunt.

On another note, Hot meals expected to come in month end however don't expect proper meals. None of the vendors(except Post aviation, Santan, Brahim) can cleanup cutlery none of the other vendors are expected to take certification for it due to cost. Enjoy having business class meal on disposable paper plates. Selection on all classes will also be limited due to meal volume constraint.

Also the disruption will persist steadfast 6months unless someone concedes defeat ahead of schedule lol.

Craig - absolutely right! Tourism Malaysia has 99 problems.
Malaysian tourism promotion took a back seat during the najib era … especially in Europe and USA. Money was being lost in the billions due to corruption and to stem the tide, the first things to go were the offices of tourism Malaysia. They were resting on their laurels for far too long, hoping that china will come through for us! The lack of effort in Europe, USA, Australia was a huge mistake.

even at our peak, Chinese tourists to Malaysia numbered 3 million, while Thailand was getting 10 million!! This is in addition to 1.5 million from Russia, 1 million ish from UK, Germany etc etc!

we were way ahead of Thailand in the 80s and 90s, and Thailand has overtaken us by far. The film ‘The beach’ in 2000s really impressed people world wide (IMHO) who flocked to Thailand for the beaches, pleasure, sun, food…

meanwhile, in Malaysia, western studios just avoided filming due to the strict regulation and red tape! We missed a trick here.

so many missed chances and missed opportunities. Our country could have been so much more. Shame

Gov too afraid to tinker up a bit with opening. A simple belly dance or stress crazed dance in IPTA grounds have already irked the local green wave that has been pushed to be more vocal by their local respective ulama's. Striving to avoid being too excessively conservative and excessively liberal seems to be on none of the politicians agenda. This "malaysia is only catered to family friendly" oriented tourism is not gonna last long term unless a replacement(mass manufacturing export, agriculture export plus food security, corporatism)  is called in for the potential loss of neglecting other tourism segment and severely little to no marketing.

I was at the domestic MH lounge a few weeks ago and the food quality/selection has improved a lot.

Yes slightly better in quality and a lot more variety than what the actual Plaza premium lounge serves and an improvement over MAS Awana's serving in the Golden Lounge. It shows Plaza Premium can actually put up a good selection in their own lounges but only opted to do so for external third party contract catering.

  16. MAG willing to bear short-term pain as it vows to take on legacy contract

MAG group managing director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said its negotiation with BFS for an extension of the contract started in November last year, "but it was going nowhere".

"We couldn't come (to an agreement), knowing the fact that BFS has a monopoly in the local in-flight catering market,” Izham said, adding that the contract terms with BFS were "lopsided".

According to him, MAG had in its negotiation with BFS requested for a new clause where MAG will have a contractual right to terminate the agreement for any reason. “However, that negotiation is off the table now. To a certain extent, we had succumbed to a partner who is operationally inefficient and who tried to make margins by raising meals and handling charges to cover their inefficiency. So is it fair?

“We don't cook at all. There is no kitchen. And we don't have the expertise to cook meals in bulk. What our eight F&B suppliers do is cook the meals at their own facility, transport them to us, and all we do at the distribution centre is stack and distribute the food items [according to the flights] and then uplift them onboard the aircraft. Our suppliers don't have the licence and vehicles to load the meals into the aircraft.”

we had our ground handling subsidiary AeroDarat Services Sdn Bhd procure 20 catering high lifts. We currently have four high lifts [which is insufficient].”

“The first 10 catering high lifts will be delivered in the third week of September and the remaining 10 will come next month. With the delivery of the catering high lifts, we will improve our hot food offerings,” he said. The catering high lift is designed to carry and load containers with airline food for passengers.

Looks like the rough ride is up to October at least. Even past that meal consistency and offering is not up to mark until a proper vendor comes in. Service consistency is only when Brahim takeover or something similar to Brahim in terms of volume and production plan comes in. Another rumor about 2 more foreign airlines in KLIA may also be suspending its contract with Brahim and opting temporary catering in around November.
