Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted June 29, 2007 TAM Buys 22 A350 Jets From Airbus June 29, 2007 Brazil's largest airline, TAM Linhas Aereas, said on Thursday it agreed to buy 22 A350 extra wide body jets from Airbus for delivery from 2013 to 2018. In a statement, TAM said it also acquired an option to purchase 10 more of the A350 jets and exercised an existing option to buy four A330 jets to be delivered by Airbus in 2010 and 2011. According to list prices, the 22 A350 jets and the four A330 jets would cost about USD$5.4 billion. TAM, which controls about half of Brazil's air travel market, will be the first Latin American carrier to use the A350 wide body jets, models 800 and 900. The purchase reflects TAM's plans to increase its share of international air travel to and from Brazil, CEO Marco Bologna said in the statement. TAM controls 72 percent of international flights among Brazilian airlines, but several international carriers also fly direct to Brazil. TAM, which competes with low cost carrier Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes for most of Brazil's air travel, will have a fleet of 143 aircraft at the end of 2011 after the four new A330 jets are delivered.
