Jetstar fare sale to KUL (and others)

Recommended Posts

http://www.jetstar.com/sale-fares.html

Heads up to those in SYD, MEL or BNE who are heading to KUL soon and don't mind flying JQ. They're offering sale fares to KUL, SYD-KUL from A$199 one way, and MEL/BNE-KUL via SYD from A$299 one way. Travel 9SEP to 12DEC.

Not sure whether there are similar sales exKUL though but there ought to be if they're trying to fill seats.

They're eyeing more Asian cities too, so watch for great offers there too:

Jetstar Eyes Asia Growth, New Airbus Order

June 6, 2007

Qantas Airways' low-cost subsidiary Jetstar said on Wednesday it was considering a big Airbus plane order and taking minority stakes in more Asian airlines as part of aggressive expansion plans.

"We are talking to Airbus at the moment for a long-term big order," Jetstar Chief Executive Alan Joyce told reporters, saying it would need new planes in 2009 to feed domestic and offshore growth.

He declined to give details, but later said the deal could be for aircraft options.

Joyce also said the low-cost carrier was looking at taking stakes in more Asian airlines, similar to its April deal to buy a 30 percent stake in Vietnam's Pacific Airlines.

"We are talking to a number of different partners in Asia but there is nothing formal at the moment," Joyce said after a business luncheon in Sydney.

Qantas said in March it had ordered nine additional Airbus A320 aircraft for Jetstar to be delivered from late 2007. Jetstar is also scheduled to take delivery of 15 Boeing 787s in 2008.

Jetstar this week flagged plans for a possible franchise system with Southeast Asian carriers when the region's airline markets are deregulated.

In an interview with the Australian Financial Review business daily, Joyce said Qantas was looking to invest in carriers in the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand who would be allowed to adopt the Jetstar brand.

Jetstar faces stiff competition with Singaporean low-fare airline Tiger Airways planning to launch a new domestic Australian service this year, and rival Virgin Blue also considering its own budget offshoot.

Joyce also said on Wednesday the airline was eyeing new markets in Taiwan, Korea and southern Europe, and announced plans to double services from Sydney to Bali.

Parent Qantas, whose management supported a failed AUD$11 billion takeover offer by Macquarie Bank and US private equity group TPG, launched a major advertising campaign last month underlining its commitment to Australia.
