AirAsia Passenger Traffic Up 73 Pct

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- AirAsia carried a total of 1.08 million passengers in October 2006, representing a 73 percent year-on-year increase in the number of passengers carried.

The growth was derived from additional flight capacity as the Group received one Airbus A320 aircraft during the period, the low-cost carrier said in a statement Monday.

The additional aircraft has also provided 22 percent more capacity as it has 32 more seats compared with the Boeing 737-300 aircraft.

The extra aircraft enabled the company to introduce its latest route offering, Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi on Oct 4.

"This route is serviced seven-times weekly and we have been enjoying robust demand on this sector since launch," the airline said.

In addition, AirAsia also increased its frequencies on existing routes.

They included the Kuala Lumpur to Kuching route and Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi.
