Can YVR take a lesson from Cathay Pacific?

"YVR CEO Craig Richmond has stated his belief in Vancouver's geographic potential as a hub linking Asia and Latin America. That belief aligns with Hogg's view that an airport must maximize its geographical advantage. But Hogg also noted the need of a strong home-based carrier in routing hub traffic to an airport. The issue however, is slightly different at YVR than Hong Kong in that Hong Kong is Cathay Pacific's undisputed home base. Vancouver, in the view of many in Western Canada, often plays second fiddle to Toronto's Pearson International in airline and aviation officials' decisions."
