'Suddenly the plane smelled like burned turkey': JetBlue flight forced into emergency landing after bird strike

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Hungry passengers were disappointed when what they thought was a hot turkey lunch instead turned out to be D-Day for a big bird.

Salivating passengers were shocked at JFK yesterday when their Aruba-bound flight had to make an emergency landing when a ‘very big bird’ was sucked into the engine.

‘Suddenly the plane smelled like chicken. I thought, Wow they have hot food on this plane,’ passenger Gina Vicinanza, 50 told The New York Post.

J.R. Meceli said ‘it smelled like burned turkey.’

Bob Flynn, 35, of Greenwich, Connecticut said passengers were surprised when the pilot announced ‘a very big bird’ had been sucked into the Airbus A320’s Engine No. 2.

He said the 104 passengers ‘moaned’ when the pilot had to conduct an emergency landing and they returned to JFK.

The flight landed at 12.30pm, a half-hour after the bird strike was reported.

The passengers were back in the air, on another plane just after 3pm, JetBlue said.

Surprisingly, this is not the first time something like this has happened. There have already been thirteen bird strikes at JFK since the start of the year – five of these with Jet Blue planes.
