  1. My encounter with MH stewards have been fair going at the most.

Comments that I have overheard are - "Dah sejuk, nak ais lagi ke?" when asked to give some ice cubes for a can of coke.

"nanti..saya belum habis baca menu..macam mana nak tahu apa yang ada?"

"kopi?, nanti dulu..kita serve main meal dulu..lepas tu baru ada kopi"

Handing over the ice without having eye contact with the passengers is also a big disrespect.

I think these stewards are being too friendly with Malaysians fliers. So much so that they acted as if they are talking to their buddies where they could sarcastically said something and expect the passengers to except it in a humorous way. If this is true, they it backed fired greatly.

I make this conclusion as I see differences in the way the stewards treat foreigners and Malaysians. Foreign passengers gets better treatment (always) then own countrymen. ..

Seems they kinda like to take liberties eh?

I don't think the treatment of foreigners are limited to MAS stewards. In my experience, everyone in Malaysia acts that way, so what to do?

Those are some really broad strokes you're painting in there.

  2. On a similar note I was on MH1 and sat opposite to the crew seat. Phone was already in plane mode while listening to some music while we're holding short. The cabin crew opposite to me pointed at me and said 'excuse me you need to off it', didn't understand what she meant before actually realising she wanted me to turn my phone off, LOL, off it?!!? :pardon: somebody needs to brush up on their English a little bit.

  3. Hi Guys,

I was on Tiger Airways Australia, TT 508, from MEL to SYD yesterday. As the plane was about to land and approach the runway, all of the sudden, the captain re-climbed up the plane vigorously and the plane soared back up into the sky. Everyone on board was shocked and wondering what had gone wrong.

Only later the captain announced that they had to recircle the plane for couple of minutes due to there was another plane, JQ 330, still not being cleared on the runway.

I have never experienced something like that before and when I told this to the airport staffs in SYD, they were speechless and seemingly shocked too. Then, they would say what you could expect much from a budget airline and sometimes thing like this happened, too, in SYD. I, on the other hand, won't think that TT should completely shoulder the responsibility because the captain would only approach the runway after given the clearance by the ATC, but somehow got revoked and they had to turn back. I would think ATC would have to bear much of the blame for this incident.

    What do you guys think?

How did the captain climb vigorously? Was he rocking the wings or he himself was rocking sideways left and right in his seat?

    LOL sorry couldn't resist :D

  4. Pakatan reps demand answers for latest ‘indefinite’ deadline of KLIA2

PETALING JAYA, May 27 — Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lawmakers cast another spotlight today on the host of uncertainties surrounding the final cost and completion date of KLIA2, which has been delayed “indefinitely” this time, after being postponed at least eight times since 2009.

DAP’s Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and PKR’s Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said the entire project was being run by an “incompetent team of liars” whom they accused of conveniently changing their tune before and after the May 5 polls to “save Najib’s face”.

The duo listed four demands on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his new government, including the final bill from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) for the cost of KLIA2, the true deadline for the project, a meeting with the new acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and an independent audit on the entire project.

“We have our doubts whether the airport can even be completed by the end of this year. We wouldn’t be surprised if it only gets launched on June 28, 2014 ― the 16th anniversary of KLIA ― instead of the missed deadline on June 28 this year, the 15th anniversary,” Pua said.

At the press conference, the lawmakers showed photographs of the airport site in Sepang taken in the first week of May this year, a little under a week before polls were held, which appeared to show that the project was still far from completion.

Najib had announced in January this year that the KLIA2 terminal would be completed by May but this was subsequently delayed to June 28.

Pua and Nurul Izzah had railed against the delay during a March 11 press conference before the polls and, like today, had also provided photographs showing that the new low-cost carrier terminal was unlikely to meet even the June 28 deadline.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia two days after the May 5 election, MAHB admitted that contractors were unlikely to make the June 28 deadline. On May 9, MAHB chief financial officer Faizal Mansor told national news agency Bernama that the deadline would be pushed back indefinitely.

Pua and Nurul Izzah flayed MAHB today for the perpetual delays to the date of the airport’s completion, noting that as a company listed on the stock exchange, it should provide accurate information to the investing public.

“They can be sued for misleading the public, who are trading on the shares of MAHB,” Pua pointed out.

Adding to the uncertainties surrounding the project, the lawmaker pointed to the perpetual increase in estimated cost as announced over the years by MAHB and the ministry.

He noted that from the first estimate of RM1.7 billion as announced by former transport minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat on July 22, 2007, the cost has since ballooned to a staggering RM4 billion, according to former deputy transport minister Datuk Abd Rahim Bakri last October.

The latest estimate, Pua said, came from AirAsia CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, whom he said had speculated that the cost for KLIA2 would eventually inflate to a staggering RM5 billion.

“We believe he won’t be too far off the mark, given that the deadline now is indefinite and the delay will be for at least an additional six months,” Pua said.

In a Bernama report on May 9, RHB Research analyst Ahmad Maghfur Usman said that the delay to the airport’s completion date would likely go on for as long as six months.

“Even if the new terminal can be completed by September after a two-month delay, MAHB would still need to carry out operational trial runs, that may require at least four months,” he was quoted saying.

“Our reputation is at stake here,” Nurul Izzah said. “It is important that the MAHB and the ministry, and also the PM responds... because he gave us the assurance (on the completion date) and we are not satisfied with this continuing culture of political dishonesty.”

The PR lawmakers also demanded answers to questions they have been posing to the ministry since 2011 regarding the sudden decision to switch the site of KLIA2.

Pua repeated that the shift had been identified as one of the reasons behind the delayed construction and the bloated cost as the new area, KLIA West, had been identified as unsuitable for the project due to it being a peat swamp.

“They have ignored our request for answers, sidestepped it, just saying that now, we have a new masterplan,” he said.

Some 10 airlines have committed to operate from the new KLIA2, which was mooted to cater to the growth in demands for low-cost travel.

KLIA2, which is expected to cater to 45 million passengers per annum, will have a new 60 gates, eight remote stands and 80 aerobridges, and a 32,000 square metre retail space with 225 outlets.

Can't understand why this became an issue for these folks.

Also, liar is quite a strong word.

  5. The AVOD control is the phone. You have to flip it to the other side.

Wrong. I was surprised there are no inseat phones on the A380. Asked how to use the phone and the crew scrambled to figure it out returning only to tell it isn't available. Can't believe the airline overlooked this on their flagship airplane. Come on...

Then again one can argue nobody uses the inseat phone anyway...

  6.

At this point of time, considering the amount of info that we have in the entire forum, I don't think any sane members would suggest something like that.

For MH to operate a B748, B77W and the B787, that will be mostly in your wishful thinking. A simple research on the current fleet and destinations would lead that to void.

Suggesting MH to fly the B748 to LHR is just spastic. I mean MH just purchased a batch of A380 and just upgraded the LHR flight to 2 daily A380 6 days ago and you are suggesting that? Where would the A380 to be deployed then? BKI?

Regarding suggesting MH to increase LHR to 4 daily, now you are sounding very much like that banned member, Michael. MH at most has slots for 2 daily flights, sold the 3rd daily slots to Air India back in 2006, LHR is a slot restricted airport, I mean there is just so many hard facts that are just not supporting that. Research, research, research!

MH has been operating a mixture of Airbus and Boeing aircraft eversince.

My dad was a clerk at the post office since the mid 70s but I am smart.

Just a tips, if you want to come out with a rumour, make it splashing and really from insider's sources (like hacking a MH member's intranet email account, or planting spies at different departments within MH's HQ, or stealing documents/pictures from them, or bribe/blackmail MH staff that happen to be your friends to ask for the info that you want). I have been doing rumour stuff for MW since 2007, but this is just pathetic.

Those are rather harsh words Mohd. I'm a silent member, been reading your wonderful trip reports insiders scoops etc they are wonderful and thanks for that but I am actually quite surprised this came from you. Had it been sarcasm instead of this it would've sounded a bit more tactful.
