The HAV304 took the crown of world's longest aircraft with its inaugural flight today. The gargantuan spans a football field and towers just over two stories in height, owing its construction to pure metal. It sacrifices little in being the world's longest, as it still reaches 100 mph, which is triple that of the dwarfish Goodyear blimp. Further, it can stay airborne for just over three weeks (and hypothetically, if it could maintain its maximum speed for all that time, it would travel over 50,000 miles.)
All in all, the HAV304 offers nothing short of the glory one would expect from a gargantuan blimp-hybrid-aircraft that is partially funded by the lead singer of Iron Maiden. So run to the hills, tundra, or any extreme environment, as this runway-free goliath will soon be delivering supplies to you.

many factor need to be consider, one particular point i notice clearly in MAS flight was poor utilization of aircraft. Some only operate 4 short haul sector per day, some 6 most 7, u can try check this in FR24, just click on the aircraft rego and it shows you previous leg, on the other hand, AK a/c really work like hell... 8-10 sector from 6 am to 12pm...daily
You cannot rely on FR24. The number of sectors done per aircraft per day depends on sectors length. You need to average them out within certain times before that aircraft goes for checks. In fact, MAS B738s are doing quite well in terms of hours flown per day, it's almost 11 hrs per day and will be increased further soon.
MH is leasing out one of their A330-200F to TK next year....overcapacity.
MAS has been wet leasing one A330 to TK since last year and expected to renew the contract till next year.

Some one did ask about the registration of ex Air Atlanta/Saudia B747 parked at KLIA but I am not sure the title of the forum. Anyway, they are TF-ARM and TF-ARN

With MH B744 business config being half the capacity of their A380, what will happen to those other passengers ?
Abit of vested interest because I'll be flying KUL/LHR in July
To my understanding is that B744 would be utilized for CDG if required. But you never know!

Let me explain.Recently we have seen various topics on MAS and how these affects MAS popularity and survivability.
Simple issues as the nasi lemak controversy to more serious issues as constantly losing money, too high overhead costs, management and union problems and too much government influencing.
It also came to my attention during the time I got involved with Malaysian Wings that regularly there are some very good comments and suggestions put up in this forum regarding MAS.
Apparently there is a lot of common sense knowledge and industry inside information available by the contributors to this forum.
So, why not give it a serious try and come up with all kinds of suggestions on how we, as MWings contributors, can help MAS and bring the airline to a well-oiled and profitable entity.
However, suggestions as, do away with the cronies, cut office staff in half, get a new CEO etc. are not the solutions we are looking for. It has to have more substance.
And I am sure, that with what I have been reading here on this forum in the last few years that more than a few people can come up with sense making plans and suggestions.
As I said above, no name calling and ridiculing, but constructive criticism and related solutions.
Who knows, that after a while, with the help of the moderators, we can present our findings and suggestions as an open letter to the MAS board and the relevant government officials.
Ok. If you like, let me kick this off.
- [*]Do away with all six A380 and sell them to the highest bidder. MAS has no routes and passenger loads to justify such capacity. They probably have been bought ten to twelve years ago with no other justification then being part of an illustrious group of companies, or worse.
Passenger load to LHR and CDG is consistently high, even on MH4. The problem is the yield. Surprisingly, MH 72 to HKG also showing high load factor but not MH73 though.

Why is MH bringing in a 747? I thought 5 A380s should be sufficient for LHR and CDG operations?
Yes, 5 A380s are sufficient for LHR and CDG ops but MAS needs a backup since A380s have been having some teething problems.

Good news. But I doubt MH is going to do anything to the cabins since this is just an interim solution when there is only 5 A380s available during the wing fix.
Is the wing fix going to be completed by the end of this year?
The wing rib repair will last till Feb 2015
Might be looking into reactivating 2 B744s apparently. Will most probably fly one of the KUL/LHR flights as rumours are going around about a day off in LHR for the A380 crews.
Too expensive to maintain 2 B744s
I imagine in terms of fuel efficiency, 777(-200ER) is better than 747. Why would they bring 747 back when they can delay 777 retirement? Plus, 777 can fly to routes currently served by A380, unless it's capacity they're aiming for.
B777 can carry only 283 pax, whereas, B744 can carry 359 pax. The diff is too much

There's a rumor going on that MH is reactivating one of the stored B747-400 as a relief aircraft once the A380 undergoes wing fix. Can anyone confirm this?
It is true, it will be 9MMPP. It should be flyable after maintenance in about 6-7 weeks time

Arrived LHR on MH4 last night and there were only about 80 pax...
The followings were pax load on MH4 for last 1 week. So I just wonder where Dr Frazier got his figure from.
Even on 12 Feb it was 157 pax

MAS will make official announcement on the retirement of all B734s. Last B734 will be taken off in September

Yes there was, then it became KUL/TPE/HNL/LAX before HNL was pulled
I can't recall MAS operated to LAX via HNL but MAS did operate KUL-NRT-LAX-HNL-NRT-KUL for a few seasons when MAS fell short of aircraft and drafted in DC10-30. The aircraft operating as MH92/93 and only made a technical stop at HNL

Thanks. I didn't realise that. How about cabin crew? I imagine they have some sort of entitlements as well according to their position.
Cabin crew members are graded staff, so their entitlement is EY only.

Not quite - MH has operated the GE CF6 on the DC-10, A300 & 744 Combi.
I think the first B747-400s MHL, MHM, MHN and MHO were full pax aircrafts, and yes they were powered by GE CF6

Yes, pilots are incharge of $40m+ property.
In the old days, yes, but not anymore. Only Commanders and their families are entitled to FC tickets once a year. Other categories of staff including Managers are entitled to EY only except for duty travels.
But for Managers and Executives, they can opt for rebated BCC tickets.
Commanders are equivalent to Managers but First Officers are equivalent to Execuitves.

How about start from the ground? MH20 on 11th January was cancelled and there were a lot of unhappy passengers.
Not cancelled but delayed by 24 hrs

Surely the issue of pilot shortage on the B738 can be easily overcome with the huge number of jobless CPL holders in Malaysia.Alternatively - though this is a long shot - go South and exploit the excess pilot (FO) situation in SIA.
As for aircraft shortage, exercise the remaining options for the B738 and start looking at the MAX for future growth and replacement.
1. MAS is not short of first officers but the Commanders. Also short of cabin crew
2. MAS planned to utilise B738s for overnight flights I.e. from 1200am to 0600am
3. MAS is still trying to secure a few lease B738s but so far has not succeeded

What makes you think so? I heard from a crew that MAS may be resuming flights to CPT recently.Besides I heard MAS is going to terminate flights from NRT to LAX in March 2014. Sad news but this may help improve its profitability given the intense competition on this route.
South Africa is not in the Northern Summer 2014 pattern, perhaps, later. Also KUL- NRT-LAX vv will continue till further notice, no change in 2014 up to Oct

Then it would be a second incident within two weeks. The first reported incident was also MAS B738 from PEN.

Point of contention is the MRO deal turnabout.. Lion was supposed to send its entire fleet to SZB.. Airod was supposed to expand it's operations and capability...
Now also, AirAsia has moved out of Indonesia and may have re-engaged its strong relationship with the Government.. plus EADS has moved into SAE... perhaps there is debate over where the Lion A320 fleet will be maintained

I believe the said NOTAM was about surface depression on the runway and only AT7 aircraft type allowed to operate. The 737 is probably too heavy.

French government confers Tony Fernandes with country’s top award – Bernama

The French government has conferred AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes (pic, left) with the Commander of the Legion d' Honneur award for his outstanding contribution towards France's aviation industry.
The Legion d' Honneur award, established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, recognises outstanding service of individuals to France, and the Commander of the Legion d' Honneur is the highest rank of honour that the French government can award to a non-French citizen.
"It is truly an honour to be conferred the Commander of the Legion d' Honneur and I am humbled with the recognition given by the government of France.
"As the Group Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia, I am proud that we have positively contributed both directly and indirectly towards many peoples' lives," he said in a statement, adding that it was a great motivation for him to continue steering the group to greater heights. – Bernama, November 27, 2013.

There is a similarity between MAS and QANTAS, both lost money, both blamed the other home based competitor and both have AJ as their CEOs, Allan Jones and Ahmad Jauhari respectively
