  1. Just weighing in on the aerobridge issue:

Flew AK once last month. Have to walk a long way to the aircraft at LCCT. When I got there, there is a queue on the staircase because of "random boarding", i.e., people in the front seats blocking the aisle before sitting down.

Then in London City, I also had to walk to the aircraft, but the boarding procedure according to row numbers was quite strict and they didn't let you leave the building until they can see that the queue outside the plane was short enough (also for safety reasons). The plane was right in front of the terminal though.

4 flights between ZRH-MUC in the past few weeks. All boarding by bus. What a mess- long queues as the aisle was blocked. One flight was delayed by almost 10 minutes because of this with passengers first blocking the aisle and then walking up and down looking for somehwere to stow their luggage.

From my point of view, when pax have to walk to the aircraft, there is less opportunity to board by row numbers, hence it will add maybe up to 5 or 10 minutes to the boarding time. So, how is it that no aerobridge = less turnaround time?

  2. I once discussed a job in Khazanah with the Azmans.

Very tempting - they were willing to do a quite a lot to drag me out of Switzerland. Then slowly I saw that I would just be a puppet. I mean, nice for them to show another "top" malay guy with international experience, yada yada, but then I would have to expect calls in the middle of the night telling me what decisions to make the next day.

Some people would love to have that kind of job (although in name only) and package, but my Swiss package is not bad and I am my own man...

Anyway, with Khazanah, I fear that making an airline successful is only one of their multiple agendas...

  3. It is a amazing that SQ has managed to fill the C class seats on the ZRH route. There are usually only a handful of seats empty if at all everytime I have flown. However, I think it is a bit ambitious to think that they can fill up additional 26 seats daily because they are by far the most expensive.

A ZRH-SIN return is right now more than Fr.5000. The middle Eastern airlines, LH and Swiss are all charging well below Fr.4500, and even Turkish airlines look tempting at about Fr.3500. Most business travellers will find it harder and harder to justify this additional cost.

The only reason I can still fly SQ for work is because I use SIN as a stopover to other destinations, so my company is kind enough to allow me to fly non-stop to SIN.

I am hoping though that this will result in SQ having to lower its prices slightly.

  4. I must rant:

Tried to book tickets ZRH-KUL for my family last night. Had a couple of "technical errors" and had to restart all the time. One time, I managed to get past the payment page but then that error screen appears again, and I can see that my booking was still not made, so kept trying for 2 hours, then I gave up and went to bed.

This morning I tried again and managed to get through the payment page, but then a different error screen came up saying that the "ticket has not been issued due to a technical error.... but we have taken payment from the credit card which will take a few days to reverse".

What?? So I called my credit card company and apparently they have taken 1 payment (about Fr.5100!!) last night, and the same amount was blocked again this morning, but payment not taken yet. So my limit of Fr.12000 is blown and I still cannot make a booking!!

Right... now I have to call them and pay the ridiculous charge of Fr.0.50 per minute because they use a premium phone line!!

  5. On board 9V-SKL, SQ221 SIN-SYD, 10 July 2011:

    img3921i.jpg

Notice the new headrest - stops me from having a neckache if I fall asleep while sitting up...

Also the air-bag belt, like 77W.

    img3922jt.jpg

The rear cabin... the final row of seats are slightly more separated from the ones in front because of the position of the rear exit. Notice it has the higher screens just like the seats in the first row. Reason they are higher... bassinets!

  6. More importantly, the LCCT should be provided with a seemless connection to the main terminal building perhaps via the Aerotrain or a post security bus system. The current design is as if it is part of a seperate airport and the connections are rather laborious and take up a lot of time. This will also enable KUL to gain an upper hand against Changi where its budget terminal has no transfer facilities. Furthermore by doing so, KUL can accomadate a greater variety of travellers' needs. For example, for those arriving on long-haul/medium-haul flights via the main terminal, can then transfer to short haul LCC flights at the LCCT to destinations within the region, which is in fact not a very uncommon practise.

I think the problem is more because of Air Asia. They don't want to interline. So if there needs to be a tansfer to/from an LCC, then the pax must check-in again. If the pax must check in again, there is no point in providing an aerotrain/post security bus system. This would mean that the KLIA express should do the job.

  7. I guess he was referring to the MY-AUS market. MAS is deploying both the new and old 333 as far as Australia, Middle-East as well as North Asia that take about 6 hours and longer and these aren't exactly regional flights :pardon:

Ok... I don't know much about the middle east market, but which airline is flying to Australia or north Asia with fully flat seats all the time? As far as i know, not SQ, TG, CX... ? If I am lucky, I will get SQ's A380 or 77W, but most of the time, no...

  8. This means flat beds at the very least. If I were a business passenger and I had money at my disposal, why would I pay similar amounts of money for an angled lie-flat bed when I could get a fully flat bed? That's what annoyed me immensely about MAS' decision to use angled lie-flat seats on the new A330s. This was a great opportunity to trump it's major GLC competitors.

I didnt know there is an airline offering fully flat bed on regional flights. Which one is it?

  9. A couple of years ago I took an MH flights to HKG and checked in at XKL. I did not receive my luggage until 2 days later and certainly after being tampered with. I did not lose anything as I did not put any valuables item in it but the lock was broken, the bag was ransacked and didn't have a clean underwear for 2 nights.

Since then, I never check in at XKL and never have problem in getting my bags at destination.

    :hi:

I never had a problem at XKL. But I do know a few people who had a problem at KLIA, and all during arrivals and not departures. So for me that problem is more a KLIA problem, not XKL. Touch wood...

  10. If you are staying at the Hilton, everything is easier :

Arrival: pick up your luggage at airport itself. The only problem is to get everyone into the elevator to go downstairs to the train. Once you are down there, free porters will help you with your luggage onto the train, and also out of the train in Sentral.

Once in Sentral, if you have a booking with Hilton, which is next door to Sentral, make sure they know your arrival time so they know when to send their porter to come and get you.

Departure: again, Hilton will organise a bellboy to transport your luggage to the Sentral check in.

Taxi is an option considering the cost of train tickets, but as you are staying in Hilton, to me it is not any more or less convenient (the distance from luggage collection to taxi stand is about the same distance as to the Express train platform).

  11. Singapore Airlines received its 12th A380 (9V-SKL) this morning at Changi Airport ... landed at 0635hrs.

This aircraft has only 409 seats - 12 Suites, 86 Business Class seats and 311 Economy Class seats - and will be deployed on the SIN-SYD route on 20 Jun.

    KC

I just read your post, then I checked my booking on 10 July, and sure enough, C class seats go all the way to row 96 (new one starts at 91)!! Only about 40% of the seats are taken up so far though.

By the way, you guys take really top quality pics in SIN!!

  12. I wonder if some other European routes will be back as well, eg. Zurich. Currently, SQ/Thai/Swiss *A control the market between Switzerland (and other Swiss connections) and asia and australia. Emirates and Qatar have come in but not really in a big way. If One World wants to capture this market, MH could come back to ZRH!
