And then out of the sudden, the plane started to fly in via runway 27R, and seems to switched to 09R!! Damn you wind! And planes lining up at 27R to take off at 27L! :( So I thought that's it lah...there goes my spotting session today...but luckily while i was snooping around the ground...I found a..."hole"...

  3. Another week, another spotting session. Woke up today on a great Saturday sun, so it was a perfect day for spotting (so I thought). Skipped invitation to visit Stonehenge (been there done that), so Heathrow it is!

Was glad to see planes landing on Runway 27R, so perfect spot to get some shots!

  4. Hey nice shots! Where do u usually spot in Subang? I mean spotting location? I realised that if I take the road from my place (Mutiara Damansara) towards Kota Damansara, there are slip roads that head towards Subang Airport and it's quite fast and zippy, so might wanna go there next time I'm back...

Also...who usually operates from Subang airport ar...and how regular are the landings/takeoffs?

    Sorry, hijacked your thread! :p

  5. Edwin,

    Nice shots :good:

All taken at Hatton Cross subway-station or Myrtle Avenue ???

Should come over to LHR next month: haven't visited the place for over 8 years now and badly need some new airline/aircraft shots :D

What would be the best day at LHR to see those longhaul- and Middle-East airlines ?

    Hey Pieter,

Yes, the recent ones are taken at the Hatton Cross tube station. I was going to head to Myrtle Avenue as that day the landing of planes were at 09R. I hate it when that happens!

My previous photos are taken around the Northern Perimeter Road. If planes are landing at 27R that is...from Hatton Cross station just take a bus towards heathrow and stop at the Northern Perimeter Road. I still haven't figured out how to spot at the 27L, and 09L runways yet...

Not too sure about when is the best day to check out long haul / middle east airlines...usually I'll go on Saturdays and check the Baa.com website to see their arrivals..

  6. A few pics that I forgot to include from the disasterous spotting session at Heathrow...I am still playing around with the manual setting, trying to get brighter, more vivid pics...still experimenting...

  7. I beleive that many words used by AK is targeted at MAS. For example recently I received an email from AK, title "Fares Beyond Expectations" :pardon:

Anyway, anyone know what is the progress of the transformation now?

Yes - I noticed too, they had full page ads on these cheap fares with the headline Fares Beyond Expectations. Looks like AK is taking some serious stabbings on board! =@ =@ =@ =@ =@

  8. Boeing posts loss on probe costs

Boeing is predicting strong demand for its commercial jets

US planemaker Boeing has reported a quarterly loss, after it paid to bring to an end government investigations into its defence division.

It also had to finance costs relating to delays of a surveillance system.

Boeing had a net loss of $160m (£87m) in the quarter to 30 June, compared with a profit of $566m a year earlier. However, sales rose 2% to $15bn.

The company had already announced it would have to pay out charges of $1.1bn in the second quarter.

    In line

Boeing cut its 2006 earnings targets because of the charges, but said it expected profits to pick up the following year.

Despite posting its first loss in three years, Boeing is still seeing its business pick up - and has retaken the lead it lost five years ago to European rival Airbus.

Chicago-based Boeing has sold more than twice as many commercial aircraft as Airbus this, year as the European firm has been beset by production problems and scandal.

"Everything was very much as we anticipated," said Paul Nisbet, an analyst at JSA Research.

The one-off costs Boeing faced included $615m to settle with the US Department of Justice.

The payment related to investigations into its hiring of an ex-Air Force weapons buyer, and into how the company came to have thousands of Lockheed Martin documents in its possession.

Boeing also paid $496m to cover extra costs from delays to a surveillance system for Australia and Turkey.

  9. So pilots now don't need to bring a heavy lawyer-like suitcase? :D

ARINC First in the World to Market New "Electronic Paper" Based eReader from iRex Technologies to the Aviation Industry

Annapolis, Maryland, USA, July 23, 2006—Long just a promise of future technology, the concept of "electronic paper" is becoming reality this year. ARINC Incorporated today announced it has signed a distribution agreement with iRex Technologies, B.V., a spin-off of Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands, to market the company's electronic paper based eReader system—the iRex Iliad ER 0100—to the aviation market.

Electronic paper is a non-glare white plastic screen that displays electronic documents just as if they were printed on traditional paper. A user can also "write" on the screen with a stylus just like regular paper. The handwriting can be captured electronically, stored and erased, and the screen can be used again and again.

The iRex iLiad has a high-resolution black and white display that closely matches the appearance of printed paper. The glare-free white surface incorporates iRex's high-brightness electrophoretic display technology which remains as clear and readable as paper under all conditions, including direct sunlight.

Under the marketing agreement, ARINC becomes the exclusive distributor for iRex's electronic paper based eReader system in the aviation market. ARINC's first product using the new technology is ARINC eFlyBookâ„¢, a self-powered portable flight document library intended for use by U.S. based general aviation pilots. It stores hundreds of FAA charts and essential documents in memory and displays them with high legibility on the electronic paper screen.

ARINC introduced eFlyBook this week to thousands of aircraft owners and pilots at the world's largest general aviation venue—AirVenture 2006, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. With its matte white screen closely resembling black and white printed paper, eFlyBook greatly exceeds the legibility of traditional laptop and tablet computer screens and other devices currently used in general aviation cockpits.

The standard configuration iLiad eReader can store more than 100MB of data and graphics in internal memory and can accommodate the use of SD, CF and USB memory cards and devices.
