  1. Inflight meals are prepared and loaded into cart hours before seat assignment is closed and current Brahim kitchen is not set up to load meal to particular cart and seat, hence crews will need to distribute pre-ordered meal first before going round with cart.

But at least they will know in advance say how many Meal A, how many Meal B etc to be prepared and loaded up. Hence, potentially reducing wastage?

  2. If you've never booked a mistake fare, or played this game, and you did book this fare, a word of advice: don't start making ancillary/positioning bookings to/from PNH/SGN yet. Let the dust settle and see if you are in luck. But whatever you do..........

Rule no 1: DO NOT CALL QR.

Rule no 2: I repeat: DO NOT CALL QR.

Rule no 3: Just to be sure: DO NOT CALL QR.

That will almost certainly lead to a non-honor. Not that QR has a great reputation with this sort of thing anyway.

Ah and one more thing: DO NOT CALL QR!

And if they do not honour, will they just refund your payment?

Will they only notify you at the very last minute that the booking will be dishonoured?

  3. What's more bizarre is this paragraph:

"MIDF Research aviation analyst Chua Boon Kian believes that Malindo
Air is likely to operate turboprops out of the Skypark Terminal as the
terminal is unable to support bigger jet operations and take off of
larger aircraft due to its short runway"

SZB used to cater to tonnes of widebodies when it was the main entry point to KL, a case of factual inaccuracy on the short runway.

  4. Cash Flow Hedging losses amounted to RM77mil.

Did they sold any aircraft off? There's a net gain of approx RM9mil from disposal.

Catering expenses paid to LSG SkyChefs Brahim increased to approx RM68mil for the Qtr as compared to RM55mil for Q2 2011.

RM 1.8mil paid for QPR Sponsorship.

    RM9.6mil paid for AirAsia X Re-accommodation Agreement

  5. Lets pull out the numbers based on the exhibit from our Statistic's thread. In 2009, the standing was like this:

    Top10Int.jpg

So by having a 40% increase year on year, EK's number for 2010 is 576,321 passengers. Assuming all the other airlines' figures remain static, EK is bigger than SQ and CX, but their number is still lower than QZ, D7, AK and MH, making it the 5th largest airline in KUL for international segment in 2010. Therefore, I can confidently say that unless he omitted all the 3 airlines at the LCCT, the EK Malaysia Manager made a false claim that 'Emirates is already the second largest airline flying out of Kuala Lumpur, after national carrier Malaysia Airlines'. His claim is only valid if he refers to airlines operating out of KUL MTB only.

However, 40% is a huge growth. Based on past trends, I am very sure SQ and CX do not record something close to 10% for their annual passengers' growth in KUL. SQ's number should be declining as well, as more flights are transferred to MI in 2010. SQ's numbers have been steadily declining since 2007.

    .

    .

A pathetic 7 weekly (and NOT daily) LOL! 5 nonstop, 2 via KHI.

    3 weekly KUL-DXB-BEY vv

    2 weekly KUL-DXB-DMM vv

    2 weekly KUL-KHI-DXB vv

    .

    .

The article mentioned EK needs a further 20% growth of premium class passengers ON TOP of the present growth (which is 40% for FCL and 20% for JCL) before KUL can see the A380. That is a big number to show. I don't think KUL is up for it for the time being.

FD has been left out too???

  6. Although MH was among the first airlines that introduced the 2D mobile boarding passes, the implementation of it was not pursued in a serious manner.

Take a look at this demo of Qantas' Next Generation Check-in Experience to educate their travelers on how to use the airline's latest mobile and IT offerings to the maximum. The demo includes a 2D mobile boarding pass, a self service check-in kiosk, a self service baggage drop counter, a smart card frequent flyer card and a smart luggage tag. Among the 5, only the first 2 are offered by MH for the time being.

    http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/next-generation-checkin/global/en#/intro

I hope MH can do something similar on their website and promote and educate their travelers to travel 'mobile' and savvy.

I am particularly impressed with the smart card that replaced the frequent flyer card that is being used to check-in and the smart luggage tag that is being used for baggage drop service for premium travelers. Quite a simple but genius invention.

I see that you've done some publicity for QF here

    It is very impressive indeed.

  7. I've been to SYD domestic terminal and they have a food court, where you can find Subway and other affordable food. In ADL, you can find Hungry Jack's (Burger King) and the prices are the same as the ones you can get in the city.

Why go to Hungry Jacks when you can have Cocolat ? :)

It's the same price as the outlet on Rundle Street.

I think even Cibo Espresso at the airport has the same pricing as their other outlets.

  8. From The Australian:

SINGAPORE'S budget carrier Tiger Airways and Thai Airways will jointly launch a low-cost airline that is expected to start operations next year, they said in statement.

Thai Tiger Airways will fly domestic and international flights from Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, starting in the first quarter of 2011.

Thai Airways and another Thai entity will hold 51 per cent in the airline with the remaining 49 per cent under Tiger Airways.

No details were given on the investment cost for the new budget carrier but the two partners will be holding a media conference call later today after signing the memorandum of understanding.

Thai Airways said the venture would allow it to beef up its presence in the fast-growing budget travel market in Asia.

"With its disciplined approach to the low-cost model, Tiger Airways has proven that it has the right approach to competing effectively in the growing low fare travel market in Asia," said Thai Airways president Piyasvasti Amranand.

"We believe that this move will provide revenue opportunities for Thai (Airways) and allow Thai (Airways) to be more competitive in the region with the anticipated growth in the low cost market...which we expect will lead to growth in air travel in the Asian market."

Tiger Airways, partly owned by national carrier Singapore Airlines, has rapidly expanded its route network in the Asia Pacific region since establishing operations in 2004.

The carrier flies to 37 destinations in 11 countries and has a fleet of 19 Airbus A320s, with plans to expand to 68 planes by December 2015.

  9. This is long overdue! SYD shouldn't be tagged along with BNE in the first place, period. Just see how bad the damage of this routing has affected MH's market share on the Kangaroo route, particularly in SYD. Actually this news have been posted in fellow MalaysianWings member Jim Liu's blog since 15 July 2010.

At the moment, BNE is served 5 weekly via SYD and 2 weekly non stop from KUL with B772. Does this 2 weekly non stop B772 flight will stay in the new schedule? Meaning there will be 7 weekly flights KUL-BNE vv, 5 A333s and 2 B772s.

There are also some other changes, which was announced on 21 June 2010:

Regardless, things are improving for MH most definitely.

The rickety old A333s that do not have PTVs in Economy. That will make them look inferior in comparison to competitor airlines ex-BNE to Asia - SQ, TG, BI, CX, CI, BR etc.

  10. Garuda In USD$1.5 Bln Funding Talks

    June 21, 2010

Indonesian flag carrier Garuda is in talks with the US Export-Import Bank for USD$1.5 billion of financing for planned purchases of Boeing aircraft, said Garuda's President Emirsyah Satar on Monday.

Satar said Garuda already had a contract with Boeing worth at least USD$1.5 billion to USD$2 billion to purchase 10 777-300ERs and 10 737-800s.

"We're looking for a partner to finance the contract," he said. "We're also in talks with several lessors to combine financing for the plan."

Satar said that Garuda plans to open new routes to Taipei and Shanghai this year.

However, after opening a new route to Amsterdam this month, the firm will delay further expansion into Europe until 2011 due to the euro zone crisis, local newspaper Kontan quoted Satar as saying.

Indonesia aims to list the flag carrier in a USD$400 million initial public offering by the end of this year, with the proceeds to be used to buy new aircraft.

Garuda has said it plans to add 116 aircraft, comprising 90 Boeing 737-800s, 20 Airbus A330s, and Boeing 777s to its fleet by 2014.

    (Reuters)

They are already flying from CGK to PVG. Spotted a GA A330 when I was at PVG last Tuesday.

  11. Oooh look, aerobridges !

Well, I guess they must include those in to justify the contract price

Though the likely biggest user by far doesn't want to pay for their use

And so, we'll likely continue the current ludricous practice of climbing down stairs, walk underneath redundant aerobrige, then walk up stairs again

Well they can start charging an Aerobridge Convenience Fee.

  12. The much anticipated pdf version of MH's new timetable is finally available to be downloaded on the airline's website. http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/uploads/en/downloads/common/etable_february.pdf

    Some findings:

    • There is no more non stop KUL-BWN vv flight. All flights are via BKI and KCH and from there onwards the journey to BWN will be with BI. There is a daily non stop flight but they are all code share with BI, flying on BI's aircraft.
    • MH has now 5 non stop KUL-DXB vv flights, up from 3 previously. There is also 2 weekly flights via KHI.
    • There seems to be a mistake, since there are only a daily KUL-MEL vv flight and 6 weekly KUL-KIX vv flight being mentioned. Should be double daily, isn't it? KIX is also now (for flight MH 52) being served with the A333, from B772. Also a mistake on KUL-PER vv flight, only 3 weekly? Why so many mistakes this time around?

Either they are genuine mistakes or maybe they are actually decreasing frequencies ?
