It's like comparing Bata with Nike
Many people may not know Bata is not a cheap local brand; it’s headquarter is in Canada and operating in over 50 countries.
http://www.bata.com/about_us/bata_today.php
There is no doubt MH give a better service but how much is the meal cost? RM50 at most? I can have a good meal at most restaurants in countries AK is serving for RM50 and save the rest of price difference for shopping
With the exception of rainy day, LCCT is a more convenient, user friendly and better terminal than MBT at KLIA.

by the way guys....LH flies from FRA to KUL on 744....not MUC to KUL.
Opps! I was on MUC/KUL last november. Didn't check current schedule.
-
Meals onboard - at times I find a lot of wastage, just by looking at the trays around me. It's either some of the food was terrible that nobody eats them or they've put too much on the tray. If they remove 1 item, it'll probably save them less than a dollar per meal - but multiply that by 10 to 100 million meals, you save hell of a lot!
Food leftover onboard is probably the food is tasteless or crap. The amount and items of food serving on MH domestic cattle class is already at minimum, to cut down further will reduce MH cabin service to LCC level.
MH should improve the food quality instead.
-
LH upgraded 346 to 744 is for the load between MUC and BKK. Normal pax load on LH between KUL and MUC can’t justify a 734.
Due to limited yield, KUL can only hope for European or American airline to extend their service from BKK and SIN or piggy back on CGK or MNL.

With many routes (e.g. PEN/LGK) decided by the cabinet, doubt MH will ever truly independent and operate like a business entity.
Old wine, new bottle.

The US secretary of state is normally travels on 757.
USAF 737 BBJ is a transporter for US military CinC (4 star general).

What’s wrong with blue collar job or driver is blue collar?

Unburned fuel left over during shut down and may burn at start up. Although doesn’t happen often but is safe.
At LHR a few years ago, a MH744 had ‘engine fire’ at push back. A passenger panics, opened the door, jumped down and injured himself.
-
The road is more or less parallel to the runway, doubt they would take off at such a strong cross wind. However, I believe they encountered mechanical failure after rotation, off course and forced landing on the highway.
Believe they are not seriously injured but shock. Wish them speedy recovery.

The low cost carrier model in US is different than those can be found in Europe, Australia and Asia. There is no way that LCC such as WN, F9, FL and B6 can match AK/U2's operating cost.
After 8 years of installation, the book value on MAB aerobridge may be zero or near to by now. The marginal cost of operating the aerobridge is basically maintenance, operator wages and electricity. Hence, it shouldn’t cost a lot for AK to use. Basically, if nothing is built, no one can make money.
When VVIP is on the flight, most likely the flight will be docked at MTB. MTB can’t expect VVIP and their entourage to use the sky train.
-
Probably MAS could use MTB as its base terminal and satelite terminal for foreign airliners ?
Ideally, MH should be operating from a single terminal for ease of transit and operation. But operating efficiency or pax convenient is not in MAB, MoT or MH dictionary especially bulk of MAB revenue is from duty free shops and there is a sky train to show off to tourists.
-
Now I think it's a really a stupid decision to move AK operation to LCC! I don't understand, why the gov. is so nice to spend more money on something else which they already have? I don't think the LCC is part of the KLIA master plan. May be when the LCC overcrowded with 100 airbus, then Tony wants another LCC and the MTB will always be a monument
If nothing is built, no body can make money.
Travelers convenient, short transit time, efficient transfer are not a priority in the decision makers mind. These people always travel on first class, have VIP privileges and prefer to keep commoners, cheap travellers away from them (i.e. MTB).
-
As far as the AMS station is concerned, the suitability of the current 747 configuration (12P41J306Y) is questionable. KL does not offer first class. If MH follows through on the reconfiguration of its fleet to better match the business:leisure pax ratio, most of its 747s would be two class with a smaller premium cabin translating to 400+ pax or at least 15% increase with existing equipment.
First class is kept for MH management travel.

MH should be sending their A332 to places like Rome, Zurich and Frankfurt (given that these european destinations are those which are apparantly not performing well in terms of passenger load).
A332 is better served on regional routes which has higher yield.
MH management are too arrogant to send ill equipped A333 to Europe.
-
But was Subang originally designated to have two runways?
Yes. Enough Land was gazetted for two runways.
-
Wow China does have some really expensive airport landing fee. They are even more expensive than HKG and SIN!
Believe in China, the moment they have recovered their construction cost, the fees will be reduced.
-
Nothing more than another WAU exercise.
-
Well said. But Mas is not an ordinary airline operating by business minded people.
-
Problems at Mas is not unknown. Just that, non-business objectives were (or still are) at higher priority.
-
After taking delivery of A380, MH should be looking at fleet rationalization. MH B772 and A333 seat capacity are almost similar. Very often, on high yield regional routes, MH is sending either a too small 734 or too big A333. MH is either not able to capture market shares or operating less than optimum yield.
MH should be looking at aircraft that fit in between 734 and 772. May be swapping all 333 to 332?
-
Mas Kargo and AK have proved an airline operating without political agenda can be profitable and successful.

Originally, Subang airport had lots of reserved land for 2 runway and further expansion. Sepang was not a necessity.
The decision taken to develop Sepang instead of Subang was to make some people very rich;
1. Reserved land at Subang was sold for development and golf course.
2. Construction of Sepang, highway, etc generate income for contractors.
3. Usage of highways between KLIA and KL generate more income for concession holder.
4. Land near KLIA was ‘parcelled out’.
At the end, tax payers and travellers are paying for these expensive exercises. While our competitors are getting more competitive and we are adding more layers and cost to our daily life. Hence, Malaysia have not seen much investment, innovation, advancement since 1997.
Delays at KLIA tonight (8 AUG 06)

Standard flight time is longer than actual flight time to allow for delay (e.g. runway congestion, etc). Hence, on long haul, very often flight arrives either ahead of schedule or on time even after late departure.
Sometime, due to favourable tail wind (e.g. jet stream), to avoid arrival during airport curfew, flight is delay on departure.
Just my 2 cents.
