  1. holy moly...MH just got blown out of the sky..

we are years behind...and i doubt we will ever catch up with them, as u guys have been discussing.

nice pictures.... MH has no bloody drive, ambition or innovation. They don't even want to compete with SQ anymore. "Oh yeah, we don't have much of a market - we will rebrand ourselves as a leisure airline. "

we certainly have a bit more of an advantage compared to SIN (25 million vs 4 million). Okay - maybe KUL not a big financial hub as compared to SIN - but come on guys, get a grip. fight for the business market - like EK did. lets not go into how they managed to get so big so fast... if you still want to remain a leisure airline - go LCC like Aer lingus. You are not gonna make money like SQ, or even TG.

THe last time i heard similar statements - in the 60s/70s when our leaders said that we are a small country and should only concentrate on agriculture and mining. what did singapore do??? they had jack all natural resources - and made themselves into a huge industrial, financial and tourist destination.

of course, its easier to say than do, and I know that early Malaysia had a huge obstacle to climb, especially with regards to race relations, communist insurgency etc etc.

Stop following and be a leader for a change.

route rationalisation and restructuring will not help at all because the main cause of the problem is not sorted out - that is the high number of managers/directors who suck in all the money but have no forward vision or drive to see MH succeed. This is the same with KLIA as well - they are just unable to learn from things around them as they never open their eyes wide enough.

Sorry - just had to let this rant out.. :)

You can’t drop the spots on leopard. As long as the Government is having a narrow minded policy, don’t expect much or any improvement from either MH or MAB.

However, from time to time you will hear some campaign ‘transformation’, ’rationalization’, ‘revolution’, etc but don’t expect them to carry through.

The last campaign was the upgrade of business class, after spending so much money on the seats, mood lighting, advertisement, etc but neglected to revamp the schedule; the most important criteria for business traveler to choose which airline to take. Hence, MH failed to attract the projected number of premium pax.

And now MH is claiming to target leisure traveler. But EY pax have been neglecting by MH for many years. Wondering what campaign they are going to launch soon, may be coincident with VMY 2007.

At the moment, the only one thing MH can be proud of is the cabin crews. Just hope they won’t ruin them.

    Just my 2 cents :drinks:

  2. Maybe another way is "penswastaan" or in simple english means make Mas a wholly private company without any interference from goverment... :pardon:

I wonder how Petronas can become such a strong company (Ranked top 6 oil supplier in the world) and they even "give" money to the goverment annually...

Petronas has been operating as PM’s private company. No other politician can lay their hand on Petronas business.

Despites many ‘national service’ carried by Petronas, Petronas is still very rich.

If Petronas keeps to its charter ‘to manage the earning from oil and gas for future generations’; Malaysians shouldn’t be paying income tax.

  3. hmmm, but EY are the only carrier playing marbles on flying to KL.. they already fly to Jakarta with 773ER equipment...

There must be something really off-putting about KLIA to all foreign airlines.... but what?

About half of Malaysians travel rarely and when they do, they avoid foreign carrier. There aren’t much business transaction is carried out in Malaysia, few foreign business travelers visit Malaysia (if compared with BKK or SIN). As for leisure travelers, most Arabs visit Malaysia during their summer holiday. Hence, neither yield or pax load justified a larger aircraft or frequency to KUL.

In addition, it is expensive to operate a hub from KUL and KUL design is unfriendly for airline operation.

    Just my 2 cents :drinks:

  4.

Old habit died hard, there are still too many dead wood in Mana Ada System especially at the top management level. Basically, these people don’t have a grip on business sense but politic. Modern business model will not be implemented in the foreseeable future.

To have a truly competitive and successful airline in Malaysia; believe it is easier and cheaper to close, dissolve Mas and restart with a new airline. Of course, this is politically unacceptable. Hence, most of us in this forum will forever cry for improvement or give up hope eventually.

    Just my 2 cents. :drinks:

  5. I couldn't agree with you more. I've used KLIA (MTB + SB) many times, and I have never had problems with the signages and difficulties finding gates. But I do think the design of the Satellite building isn't the best...and could be much better. First of all, you can't really see aircrafts parked at the building from the Anjung Tinjau...not spotter friendly. The + design also minimize space for more stores...and the stores on the 1st floor are not very passenger friendly as well.

I appreciate the fact that the management is working on improving the shopping areas in the Satellite building..hopefully for the better. The refurbishment of the Sky Emporium in the MTB looks great to me. Adds a lot more character to the terminal.

Some things though I would like to see at KLIA. Stores at the International Departure area in the MTB (i.e. Gates G & H)....that place looks really dry.

A rest area, where there are lots of sofas to sit and relax...and with LCD screen TV's all over the place, showing different programs (sports, news, documentary)....ala Changi T2 I guess...

Signage in Malaysia is means for people who know. Most strangers or first timers will be lost or confused.

As many of the duty free shops are operate by MAB; MAB would prefer to convert rest area into café, restaurants and shops or replacing tenants with their subsidiary (in the name of upgrading) to increase revenue rather than making transit pax more comfortable. When pax is too comfortable at rest area, they will spend less time and money at MAB outlets.

Because of the distance from satellite terminal, doubt they can improve much on the average time of 35 minutes to retrieve luggage. It was 40 minutes before the recent upgrading

  6.

You can’t remove spots from leopard.

When a militant union can held a company in ransom, it is a matter of time that company will failed unless drastic measure is taken.

Politicians have different objectives than businessman. Rarely that company with politician involvement can be successful without Government backing or protection.

  7.

T3 at SBZ is available for pax operation. If SZB is open to public, KUL will be deserted. The Government and MAB won’t permit SZB to back to life except for prop operation.

As ticket price on long haul LCC won’t be much cheaper than regular airlines, hence the business model is yet to be proven. Believe it is more viable to operate as charter, which is proven and successful among holiday makers.

  8. Fares found (return ticket in Y) :

    - MH > RM?? + RM?? + RM?? = RM 1778.00

    (Miles Accrual : Yes)

    - CI > RM1210 + RM79 (tax) + RM172 (fuel surcharge) = RM 1461.00

    (Miles Accrual : Yes)

    - BR > RM1103 + RM79 (tax) + RM172 (fuel surcharge) = RM 1354.00

    (Miles Accrual : Yes)

    - CX > RM1189 + RM79 (tax) + RM224 (fuel surcharge) = RM 1492.00

    (Miles Accrual : Yes)

Why MH is always so expensive ? Even CX is cheaper ... :(

Home airline is almost always more expensive than foreign airlines. Because local are normally willing to pay a premium to travel on home airline.

Personally, I recommend BR; CC may not be as friendly as MH but food served onboard is better than MH and is value for money.

  9. KLIA contact pier and satellite terminal was designed for 25m ppa.

Does it mean KLIA has reached it’s capacity? MAB is supposed to construct the second satellite terminal 2 to 3 years before 25m ppa is reached. Are they executing it?

Believe the KLIA figure is cooked like other Government statistics.

  10. Sunrise in Adelaide today was before 6 am. I woke up around 5.50 am and the sky was already bright. MH 139 arrived slightly past 6 am today.

Civil twilight at sunrise is about 30 minutes before sunrise. Likewise, twilight at sunset is about 30 minutes after sunset.

    Adelaide sunrise, sunset time can be obtained from;

    Definitions of twilight, sunrise, etc

  11.

    MH 139 KUL/ADL, STA0610hr.

Sunrise in Adelaide is at 0615 hr.

Unless the flight was delayed. If meal serving is 90 minutes before arrival, the sky should be dark.

Understand nautical twilight at sunrise is about 30 minutes (more at higher altitude and southern atmosphere at this time of the year) earlier than civil twilight.

Window shutter on red eyes flight are most likely remain open, nautical twilight should be clearly visible.

Don't think the complaint is justified.

Guess the pax was sound asleep until meal serving.

  13. i actually agree with it. Airbus not much change given to their fleet. Airbus only has 3 size for fuselage diameter.

    A320 size - uses for A318, A319, A320, A321

A330 size - uses for all A330 and A340 series also for A350.

    A380 size

    for Boeing

727, 737OG and 757 has the same diameter but none are compatible to use with each other.

none other aircraft has the same diameter. even the OG and NG 737 fuselage has a few cm and flatness differences.

Believe Boeing is using same jig for 720, 707, 727, 737, 757 and 737 NG. The improvement over the year is basically weight saving, work method and sound proofing. Other amenity and configuration have little or no impact on the fuselage construction.

It make engineering sense to share common fuselage. A tube is a tube.

  14.

Rumour (which always true) has it; KLIA is built on a cemetery and was haunted during construction stage.

When KLIA was opened in 1998, spirits was invited to move out by bomoh. Believe it or not, spirits was requesting to travel to Japan and their wish was granted. Travelled on a MH flight to Tokyo and released there. :o

  15.

IPH is within 2.5 hours drive from KUL, it can do without a airport. What IPH need is regular express bus service to KUL.

As local politicians don’t commute by bus and bus service doesn’t bring glory, bus service at KUL is the poorest among international airports.

May be AK should consider commence bus service to town like Ipoh, Melaka, Muar, Mentakab, Kuantan, etc.
