This report shows what a big mess MH is in.

    https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/2020/01/22/report-malaysia-airlines-needs-rm21b-to-continue-operations/1830575

MH really is in no position to choose its suitors.. no matter how much one hates TF and AK, theirs may be the only viable proposal. JAL's 25% not going to make any difference. Air France/KLM is getting out. The management, staff and union should just swallow their ego and pride and accept whatever that's on the table. They screwed up... we cannot keep pumping in taxpayers money into MH.. it is a lot of money.

Though MH was reported had lossed about RM 800m p.a in last few years? This report could mean some recent losses is buried somewhere or deferred. Unless the gomen is to bare a portion of or full losses for next few years, doubt any business minded person (e.g D7, AF/KL, JL, TK, QR, etc) would even touch MH with a pole.

Who want the hot seats??? Hahahaha....Seems like everyone is scared....KPI has changed kot.....

MoT should remove top 2 layers of MAHB management and replaced with experienced foreign airport operator/team.

ETA 1am and 2am is understandable for holiday chartered flight or timed for short transit but not otherwise. by default, yield on these flights could not be high.

  4. MAB high CASK was cast in stone when they ordered A333 instead of A350 or 787 a few years ago. On my recent trip SQ and TG 380 to FRA and KIX, ticket price was significantly cheaper than ME3 and MH/CX/VN respectively, and were full flight.

On MAB RASK, it is a matter of managing pax expectation. Believe MAB still lack business sense and lost touch with basic. On one occasion, a change of date on a 2 hours EY flight would cost higher than buying a J class ticket.

CAAM will act in the best interest of aviation industry — Anthony Loke

PUTRAJAYA (Dec 13): Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) will be further empowered financially and through a wider scope of powers to act in the best interest of the aviation industry after it subsumes the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom).

“They will be given more power, we want to empower CAAM,” he told reporters today at the launch of the #JOMTEKSI initiative by TNG Digital Sdn Bhd, the operator of Touch’n Go eWallet.

The recent Cabinet decision to consolidate the functions under Mavcom — which regulates commercial and economic matters in the Malaysian aviation sector — and CAAM — which oversees technical issues in the sector — has sparked debate over the necessity of having an independent economic regulatory body to avoid a reversion back to the service quality back when the industry was served by Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), the predecessor of CAAM.

To be competitive internationally, the country need to cut red tapes (hopefully not length wise).

Malaysian airlines used to have air services to Iran and Iranian airlines currently serve KUL - is that sanctions busting?

Iran’s Foreign Ministry called in the South Korean ambassador last month to demand payment of 7 trillion won ($6 billion) for oil it sold to the Asian country, Chosun Ilbo reported, citing officials it didn’t identify.

Iran expressed “strong regret” over Seoul’s failure to complete the payment, which has been deposited at two South Korean banks without being transferred to Iran’s central bank for years due to U.S. sanctions against the Middle Eastern country, the newspaper said. It added that other Iranian authorities including the central bank also complained.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-12-14/iran-demands-6-billion-oil-payment-from-south-korea-chosun?srnd=premium-asia

The trap is clearly marked and U.S won't stop anyone to walk into. When will DoJ sprung the trap depends on U.S administration i.e politics. The longer one spend in the trap, more leverage and damages is expected, which many foreign banks e.g hsbc have experienced.

  9. U.S. economic sanctions against Iran are illegal and Malaysia does not support them, the southeast Asian nation’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said Saturday in Doha.

The curbs have constrained Malaysia’s access to an important market and trading partner, he said at a conference in the Qatari capital.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-12-14/malaysia-does-not-support-u-s-curbs-on-iran-premier-says?srnd=premium-asia

If Dr M is encouraging local companies to breach U.S economic sanction, FAA is unlikely to restore CAAM status anytime soon.

Not going to work that way. Pretty sure that someone (and you know who that someone is) is going to argue that now that MAVCOM is under CAAM, they should cut the tax, which undoubtedly will happen to curry favour with the voters, and thus CAAM ends up with less funding & more to do.

A reduction of mavcom expenses is enough to pay for caam's shortfall.

What's more important is the fact that they were able to rectify the situation quickly so that didn't happen.

    Why not now?

"Is it fair to get LCC passengers, who not only are unable to enjoy these expensive facilities at KLIA but forced to put up with inhospitable conditions at klia2, to pay the same passenger service charge (PSC) rates?" he asked."

Yes Bo, it's fair. Why? Because KLIA passengers had to subsidize klia2 passengers prior to this even though the MTB is worse for wear. And enough with the inhospitable conditions at klia2. Compared to the shack at LCCT, it's a palace. And compared to the MTB, it's still more comfortable.

T1 pax subsidize T2? this is something new. If klia2 gateway is detached from T2, T2 is no more comfortable than T1 MTB.

Boeing whistleblower raises doubts over 787 oxygen system

A Boeing whistleblower has claimed that passengers on its 787 Dreamliner could be left without oxygen if the cabin were to suffer a sudden decompression.

John Barnett says tests suggest up to a quarter of the oxygen systems could be faulty and might not work when needed.

He also claimed faulty parts were deliberately fitted to planes on the production line at one Boeing factory.

Boeing denies his accusations and says all its aircraft are built to the highest levels of safety and quality.

The firm has come under intense scrutiny in the wake of two catastrophic accidents involving another one of its planes, the 737 Max.

Mr Barnett, a former quality control engineer, worked for Boeing for 32 years, until his retirement on health grounds in March 2017.

From 2010 he was employed as a quality manager at Boeing's factory in North Charleston, South Carolina.
