  1. Nice throwback, Firdaus! Had very fond memories on the MKx series of A330. This thread has been quiet for quite some time too. Let me just share some of my August spotting logs.

Spotting in the rain. 9M-AJI from Lumpur as AK5212.28341639494_8e3b61ae46_b.jpg

9M-AJY, the aircraft that took me back to Kuching from Kinabalu on 30th August.

9M-AHM operating AK6058 to Bintulu, commandeered by Capt Aizuddin Hisham, who was nice enough to open the window to give me a nice wave while taxiing past.

PK-TXI, a regular doing PNK-KCH runs. Recognizable from far on the approach as her left hand side landing light is always dimmer than the other two.

Still a lot more to come..

Does anyone know why AK renumbered its KCH-SIN-KCH flights back to 4 digits. Just came back from SIN and noticed my usual AK776 is now AK1776. I though international flights are 3 digits (for AK at least).

No idea why also. Noticed that some of the usual 3 digit international flight numbers on other AK routes have also been changed to 4 digits.

  4. Short spotting today, lighting was on and off.

  5.

Haha.. not the lens bro but a lot of practice with your newly bought DSLR, and leave auto setting..surely in no time you will be a pro.

Have been using DSLRs for quite abit before getting my own one so definitely never touched the Auto mode ever since xD

But for panning shots on the runway, a 18-55mm is just not enough. Needs more focal length. Otherwise when I try to crop it during editing, it's gonna be blurry or details are lost.

  6. Short spotting session on the final day of July this year..tried to get some departure shots and learn panning. Clearly a basic 18-55 kit lens won't do too well. Heavy cropping required.

Nice one Prestley; Keep them coming

    Thank you! :D

Ow, you guys are getting a regular dose of Batik. We are still getting Malindo in BUY.

You mean BKI? The Batik ones are sometimes predictable. Last week it was double LCC and LCD for us. Then this week LCF was a regular here. Wonder what next week.

Now Malindo has a lot of livery variations. The LCF there with Malindo title positioned lower on the fuselage

Yeap, noticed that too! Hope they don't have identity crisis soon! Haha

  7. Weather was nice and sunny today so decided to go out and shoot. However, shooting arrivals in the afternoon was not a good idea due to the lighting.

The newest member of Batik Air Malaysia, 9M-LCF. Former Batik Air Indonesia PK-LBR coming in as OD1606. Her registration did not appear on FR24. Added quite a bit of mystery while waiting for her.
    28586140055_edf15e73b4_b.jpg

She then departed back to Lumpur as OD1605.

9M-MLE rotating off 07 to Kinabalu as MH2806.

9M-AHT from Bintulu as AK6057. She is currently stationed in KCH. Good chance to spot her.

9M-MWC arriving from destination unknown, with the airport AFRS Rosenbauer Panther on taxiway A before entering the runway for which I assume, a runway inspection.

  8.

Mine is a Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5 - 6.3 DC AF with optical stabiliser zoom lens mounted on a veteran Nikon D90 body, been using them since 2008. Good enough for a casual photographer like myself. Mr. Prestley, that is an awesome quality for a kit lens, let me guess..Nikon

Yup! A Nikon D3200. Originally wanted to get a D90 as well. It may be old but it's a beast! Tested it out at Great Wall Photo. Unfortunately it's above my budget. But that's some serious good zoom you got there!

  9. 9M-LCD.. oh yea I remember her. Btw Mr. Prestley, I really appreciate it if you could share the location where you shot these from.

Yo! This location is quite dangerous. There are risks of snakes, falling down steep terrain and of course, the ever present white MAHB Hilux. To get there, go along the road that goes parallel to the runway, Jalan Stutong Baru. In the direction TOWARDS the airport. Along the way keep your eyes peeled on the left of the road There's a small little stone road which leads uphill. Park your car on the stone road, cross the ditch, climb up more stones and trek uphill. Once there, you should be right beside the airport perimeter fence. There should be a hill on your right. Climb it. Advised to wear long pants, shoes and bring gloves (if have) to grab the lalang in case you fall. Be careful not to kena kantoi by MAHB patrol Hilux. Good luck!

  10. Does BKI supports A380 operations? As I believes the facilities need to be upgrade to cater for dugong.

As far as I know, KCH is unable to support A380 operations. Sure we have a capable runway and stopbars on the ground at the gate but our taxiways are too narrow. Not sure if this is the case for BKI as well.

  11. Surprised that Kuching will be their destination instead of Sabah. HongKongers have been living their entire life enveloped in a metropolitan city of concrete jungle, and their getaway would most likely somewhere more nature like, places like Sipadan. Anyways, its always good to have foreign visitors to the country no matter which states.

They did launch HKG-BKI before but was scrapped after a period of time. Let's see if KCH would be able to hold it longer than BKI.

  12. First visit of XXT to Kuching and first in my database. And as usual, the ever accursed Kuching weather decided to give us very somber and dismal lighting. And throw in some rain too.

Checked HX's website today and found that the route map has changed the route colour to KCH to blue, meaning that the aircraft operating is a HX equipment. Sorry, only people like us would be interested in matters like this.

    16000_codeShare_19Apr700e.jpg

Good thing they decided to use HX aircraft. Love the bright colors of its livery. Reminds me of Jackie Chan's private jet.
