  1. It's fine for anyone to think MAS is not running as a real business, but it's not fine when one simply throws out their idea based on their "strategy" they did on Airline Management games.

Plus, the current state of MAS is different than MAS 12 months ago, and different from 36 months ago. Air Asia is in the picture, which played some role to a certain degree behind this sudden drastic cuts.

A guy from Mexico said on A.net that he thought MAS is doing great on the Kota Kinabalu/Japan sector...

What is the definition of "doing great"? Doing great because the plane is full? IS it full one-time or every flights? Has that person seen the figures?

  2. Is cutting routes the only thing they know to do? They should redeploy them to other routes. Worst is the planes sitting idly on the ground. I will like it if they increase the frequency KL-Perth to twice daily each day.

MAS is a real business, not those airline management game you play on your computer or mobile devices. You don't simply cut a route and redeploy them to another route right away without extensive research.

  3. Tried to do dummy booking for 1st August.. Still 747 seatmap?

Because 01AUG12 is Wednesday. A380 not operating on that day.

On that seat map, it states Premium:Q. What does that mean?

"Better seats" (Larger legroom) requires additional fee. Just general remark that needs no special attention.

  4. Looks like premium economy to me.

If it was upper deck, the rear section must also be 2-4-2 (like SQ economy on upper deck).

So if it is lower deck it is possible that it is the business class though...

Originally I put down Premium Economy when I was doing the article, but had to change it cause others suggested it's just upper deck economy in the rear.

QANTAS' A380 has Premium Economy on upper deck rear section, but it's 2-3-2. And I seriously doubted MH will have 90+ seats of Premium Economy.

  6. SriLankan Airlines is looking to add six widebodies as part of a plan to double its fleet during the next five years, and is considering the Airbus A330-300 and the Boeing 777.

Speaking to Flightglobal's Airline Business Daily at the World Route Development Forum in Berlin, SriLankan's newly-appointed chief executive Kapila Chandrasena said the carrier wants to add "roughly six widebodies" to its fleet to replace its Airbus A340-300s, with deliveries beginning in 2014.

The airline is in talks with Airbus and Boeing but has yet to decide whether it will purchase or lease the aircraft. "We are looking at a possible blended approach, where we own 25% and lease 75%," said Chandrasena.

In the meantime, SriLankan is taking used A330s from lessors including Air Lease Corporation and International Lease Finance Corporation.

Under its turnaround strategy for the next five years, SriLankan aims to "roughly double" its fleet from 15 to 30 aircraft, said Chandrasena. Its fleet renewal will be partly funded by a $500 million equity infusion from the Sri Lankan government, which owns the airline.

SriLankan Airlines hopes its strategy of strengthening its regional network and capitalising on the tourism growth opportunities that have arisen since the end of Sri Lanka's civil war two years ago will see it return to profitability in 2013.

The airline is also keen to join an alliance "as soon as practicable", said Chandrasena.

"Oneworld and Star are preferred, if the opportunity exists, but we need to know more about SkyTeam to see if that could be a strategic fit," he added.
