  1. DEBATABLE .......

Stat - 75% of aircraft accidents were due to 'HUMAN ERROR' ........ hence, the automation ... to minimise human error.

If you are a full fledged pilot, why would you need to fly manually in a holding pattern for an instrument approach in bad weather? It does not make sense because that is the best ingredient for a disaster.

Airbus FBW for example, designed an aeroplane that IMPOSSIBLE to stall under 'Normal Law' ....... do you need to mis-configure the aircraft in order to learn how to stall and recover from stalling?

We have to be real and get a balance view between commercial and safety. Understanding the design philosophy of an aircraft is also vital instead pointing fingers to one another.

My view is simple, if you pay peanut, you will get monkey and if you let the monkey to do the recruitment job, certainly you will get another idiotic monkey ........ :help:

It is all started from the beginning, recruit a suitable candidate, send to the best flying school, carry out a rigorous induction training, strict and tough on checking, allocate some handling (simulator) hours during six monthly proficiency check, pay them well and keep their morale high ........... :yahoo:

You may see the different to fly with a morally high and fun set of crew and certainly pilot's job is 'EXCLUSIVE' and not 'EVERYONE CAN FLY' ......... :D

    :hi:

    Agreed very well said.

  2. Aaron,

For MH turnaround time, they have cleaners (vendor) go to the aircraft and carry out cabin housekeeping, lavatories as well. But AK didnt do that coz the crew will do it while waiting pax to board.

You cant compare like that. Turns are AK's ops, where as MH has diff kinda ops. But the fact remains, both do clean toilets.

Anyway, anyone has any idea what was MH cc's salary say in 1990 compared to now?

  3. There are many more things can be used as examples and char koay teow is just one of them.

Exactly sir. How about homes, cars, taxes, EPF /CPF, Med, etc etc etc.....lets not get into a currency war. I would say having worked on both sides, RM is about 1.3 to 1.4 times more than in SGD.

The salary for MH crew is perhaps comparable or even better than the average income for fresh graduates (and bearing in mind there are increasing numbers of unemployed grads now). Maybe AK crews earn bit better but their airline is making big profits and sources tell me that they have to clean toilets and etc.

Guess having the opportunity to travel around the world open your eyes to the pittance salary in Malaysia. Hey, it's like RM 30 for a plate for char koay teow in Australia and it's considered economical.

    [/quote/]

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes its correct. For AK, other than served to their pax, they also need to carry out and additional tasks such cabin housekeeping and lavatories cleaning and securing.

I think MH crew do clean their toilets as well. SO does SQ and other legacy carriers. If not how you think on a long haul flight the toilets are always clean and shiny.

  4. Uh, how do you compare that when the currency value used is different for every airline? Plus the cost of living for every country is different. That just doesn't make sense!

Of cos comparison is not direct conversion. Example: in Sin say salary SGD2000 so compare woth the living cost in SIN and MY, roughly estimate SGD 2000 salary to be about RM 3,300. In that sense, taking living cost into factor.

MH is one of the very few airlines in the world take pick crew from their homes and drop themback after work. Most others you drive to work. With one air line, lowcost tho, jeXXXXr,you pay for your own medical check up on entry if you are selected, and also pay A$140 for security clearance from the respective ministry of justice, pay first aid fee from St. Johns and also pay for the course pertaining to responsible service of alcohol from your own pocket and many other expenditures! With MH all paid for you.

Yes MH pick up their crew. Yes some airlines you drive to work but you get paid in transport allowance. Now you cant compare MH to LCCs. Not apples with apples. LCC you also pay for type ratings.....

  5. Isn't it a bit distracting for something as serious as a safety briefing. If it's a briefing interspersed with jokes a la Southwest then it's not that bad. But dancing?

Dancing? at least the passengers were looking rather than the normal safety briefing where no one bothered. Distracting? A bit of dancing cant be that distracting aint it?

  6. I cant understand why people keep thinking that computers fly the plane......it is like computers doing work for an accountant, or telephone doing the work of a telephone operator or the tyres doing the work of a bus driver. When has work been measured by the amount of strength a person puts in? Its just pure ignorant to think like that. Yes computers do help fly the plane in a way replacing the muscles of the pilot but not the brain of the pilot. Eg, If I dont type anything in mwings, there wont be anything.....Just plain bloody ignorant. and the reason why piloting looks so easy its because the pilot has already put in a lot of prep work at home.....

  7. Rather than standing, I'd rather choose a sleeping seat.

We've seen this in many space sci-fi movies; should apply this to airline travel.

Passenger check in to a room where they are put to sleep. Then they are loaded into capsules which are then loaded into the aeroplane. The capsules can be stacked up, maybe a 737-sized aircraft can carry as much as 400 people. There will be no seats, no toilets, no cabin crew. Also no food or galley, and no security concern as nobody is awake except the pilots. At the end of the journey the capsules are transported to another room where the passengers are made awake again.

    What do you think?

And pax pay for the capsules. awesome
