  1. It's probably an engine surge & the crew erred on the side of caution to return back to LHR.

I remembered a BA flight which had an engine shutdown out of LAX flew all the way to MAN on 3 engines before diverting there as a precautionary measure. So could MPL flew on to make it easier on everyone?

    you dont want that

  2. You're a friend of Gilbert right? Saw your picture from Gil'd FB profile...proud to have Kuching lang flying for TZ! Hope to be on your flight one day....cheers!

Yes, one of the kch mwingers. Sorry guys, no TR dont know how to write and post properly.

  3. well if Scoot doesnt prove to work or not profitable, its more bec of the high labour costs ie tech and cabin crew costs plus aircraft fees , airport charges n maintenance vs D7 where the labour costs is less than half of Scoot's. Of course fuel price is a factor but then all airlines will have to pay for it so its fair - the main thing is overhead costs.

How you know about these labour cost thingy? They even hasnt started flying dude.

Interestingly, we are also short of 777s for routes. How bizarre

    Sandeep,

    Really kah? hmmmmm

  4. 1st.....airlines dont want during rough ride, those electronic devices become missile and hit your head.....scared later you sue them. 2nd.....Hard for flight attendants to identify which is Galaxy Tab, which is Ipad, is it on flight mode or not, imagine going thru each and every device for 300 pax..... 3rd.....1 pax use mobile phone fine, 2 ok, how about 300 hp switch on at one time (any effects? anybody's guess). 4..... They want u to use inflight sat phone, untung lah.....

  5. If you draw a straight line from Melaka airport to Pekan (Pahang) and northwards up to Kota Bharu Kelantan, the airspace (high level - sorry could not remember the altitude) to the east and south of these lines belongs to everyone else except Malaysia. YES, even after 54 years we celebrated Hari MERDEKA .....

As far as Air Traffic Management is concerned, MOT is seriously needed to look into this matter. In general, we need more participation/feedback/input from operators/players, modern equipment (such as satellite based datalink and communication etc....), infrastructure, training and last but not least, the political will to improve the whole system.

If we could not optimise the usage of dual runway ops in KUL up to at least 40 take off and landing per runway per hour........ I would say we could only dream of the rest ... :sorry:

Having been to quite a number of airports in the First World countries, I wonder whether even my great grand children will ever have the same joy and experience that I have right now, in our home turf.

    :hi:

    Lumpur has Datalink.

  6. not safe as encountered numerous scary landings and once even skidded off runway in Johor Bahru

Plane old or not will still skid and have scary landings.....also old a/c can have very nice cabins seats trays etc if the company wants to refurbish them, thus again cabin interior has nothing to do with new or old a/c. The only problem I see with old a/c is maybe higher fuel consumption.....cheers

  7. If that is true, it would appear the AF A330 pilots only know how to fly it on autopilot! They have already forgotten the basics of flight! :(

They could have been confused at that point of time. Yes with certain amount of thrust setting s and pitch angles, one can fly roughly a set speed. But what they went thru was bad weather, plenty of ECAM, dark night and in this weather even with a working pitot, the a/c cant maintain speed accuracy to 1 knot.

  8. AirAsia X set to fly to Africa

SEPANG: AirAsia X has taken steps to make Africa its next major destination, said AirAsia Bhd group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.

“Our team has just come back from South Africa, Egypt and Morocco. We are currently studying new routes, landing rights and potential markets that we are about to venture into,” he said after launching the AirAsia-CAE (Canadian Aviation Electronics) Asian Aviation Academy here yesterday.

He said AirAsia X flights to Africa would be focused on destinations in the central and southern part of the continent.

“We see a lot of potential in Kenya and Somalia. We will definitely fly there (African continent) at some stage. AirAsia is always looking for new market opportunities and this includes other parts of the world as well,” he said.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had suggested that the low-cost airline should consider Africa as its next major destination.

He had said during the Langkawi International Dialogue 2011 that the airline could either fly there on its own or join forces with African airlines to provide services between Kuala Lumpur and cities in the continent.

On the Asian Aviation Academy, Fernandes said the RM200mil joint venture between AirAsia and CAE was aimed at training pilots, cabin crew, maintenance workers and ground personnel for airlines in the Asean region.

“We are planning to train some 12,000 pilots a year and we forecast that the number of trainees will grow exponentially.

“Pilot training programmes will be available from July 1 while non-pilot training programmes will commence on Oct 1,” he said, adding that it also accepted trainees from other airlines.

CAE group president Jeff Roberts said the training centre would include six CAE-built full-flight simulators, including four for the Airbus A320 and one each for the A330/340 and Boeing 737 Classic.

    SOMALIA???????????? :clapping:

  9. How do they expect cadet pilots to gain experience? Surely those pilots are already trained in the simulator before flying the real thing. It's not like they are thrown at the deep end of the pool now do they?

I think its not so much of the inexperience part they are talking here, its the fact that the trainee pilots are sort of paying their own line training and the creation of B scale (financial terms).....Thus, squeezing pilots of money
