Please listen to norman's advice guys
Accident are always met with grief and sadness.. I wish a speedy recovery to the instructor.. saw the picts on a local paper that day..

talking about accident even the 737-800 have a history
30 Sep 2006 - GOL 737-800 Crashes in Brazil.
A fuel leak through that hole likely caused Monday's fire on the China Airlines Boeing 737-800.
05 May 2007 - Kenya Airways 737-800 missing after take-off from Cameroon.. and so on
this just prove the theory that newer doesn't mean safer..
A little bit of Pro's on a classic is that the vast experience of handling and managing its fault can actually make it safer to fly and maintain.. i'll go anytime on a classic with a good maintenance and history compared to a full glass highly savvy tech a/c with 2-3years track record..
hehe..just my 2cents

i hope this will satisfy the curiosity. its a statement passed to the media.
"Statement by Malaysia Airlines – Flight MH674 from Singapore to Penang
Subang (25 March 2010): Malaysia Airlines flight MH674 departed Singapore at 11.05am today and was scheduled to arrive in Penang at 12.25pm.
During its approach into Penang, the Captain noted that the right engine was surging with vibrations. The Captain decided to go around to further assess the situation. Following Standard Operating Procedures, a precautionary shut down of the engine was carried out. He landed the plane safely at 12.26pm.
Upon landing, the Captain opted to shut down the left engine and the aircraft was towed to Gate 10. All passengers disembarked using the aerobridge.
“The plane landed safely. All 88 passengers and 7 crew members are safe. At no time was the safety of the flight in jeopardy as our Captains and crew have been repeatedly trained to handle such situations,” said Malaysia Airlines Senior General Manager, Flight Operations, Dato’ Captain Ahmad Zuraidi Dahalan.
He added, “There was no fire. In this situation when the engine was shut down, the residual fuel left will be burnt off at the exhaust section of the engine, which can be visibly seen as flashes. This is normal. These flashes will dissipate once all the residual fuel burns off. The plane is perfectly safe, capable and certified to fly in this condition.”
Investigations into the cause of the incident are currently underway."

Hi guys, this is an interesting post.. Im just curious on a few more facts, anyone can theorize more?
Btw, i am in no way trying to make anyone offended.. cheerses
This is what happened from a passenger's point of view. This is the letter I sent to AirAsia
Dear Sir, Madam,
I was with my family on board AK5342 on the 17th of august from Langkawi to Singapore. The complaint I have is about the lack of information from the cockpitcrew about the things that happened during this flight. After taxi out we were standing near the runway at Langkawi for at least 20 minutes. Then the captain informed the passengers that due to airport congestion we still had to wait another 10 minutes. This was somewhat difficult to believe. We were not the only ones thinking that this was not true. Shortly after reaching cruising altitude the aircraft started to descent again with speedbrakes. All the way to low altitude, I suppose 10.000 ft. By this time I told my wife we were going to divert, the captain informed the passengers a few minutes later that due to a technical problem we had to divert to Kuala Lumpur. He mentioned nothing about what kind of failure, to me it was clear that it was a pressurization problem. Later the temperature in the cabin became hot, we heard the airconditioning surge a few times. During the further descent to the airport of KL we felt more than normal pressure on the ears, it was clear that the pressurization of the aircraft was no longer working. During taxi after landing the first officer apologized for the inconvenience of the diversion and the airconditioning problems.
Please inform me about the real problems of this flight, as the captain was not telling the whole story. We were not the only ones who had big question marks. It even crossed my mind that the cockpit crew was very busy before departure trying to solve a problem but I will not accuse anybody of something which I cannot prove. But the lack of information makes me think so. A failure or problem can happen. A diversion is inconvenient but so be it. But I like to be taken seriously as a passenger, I have a right to. For your information I know what I am talking about, I am an airline-pilot myself.
1. The only reason people complain to you is?.....a. u declare who u are b.u thought u are doing PR for AA c. u are filling the complaint form?
2. Are you familiar with WMKL? maybe your airline is a Flying school or not MAS or AA and also maybe your airline is Based in SG..
3. As "WE" is always used.. Who else might be so curious? Assuming that the explanation is given will the info be shared?
Thanks for reading

after some reading i think what happened was this...
1. from this gov letter Surat GOV a gov servant must choose MAS or A.A HOWEVER id the dest, or time is not as per required, He/She may use other Opt, billed to the treasury (Akauntan negara). Upon approval of your superior. In this case TPM requires? ...His own signature..prepared by the PA lah of course..He doesn't think of the mode of tspt, PA do, select then inform him, unless he wanted to change then its up to him..
2. At the same time RMAF/ police / gov agencies do have special clause to give air service or transportation to VIP/VVIP which must be approved by their organization. And can be claimed from the gov.
From all the above i would like to think the gov as a very complex organism.. nothing on the surface reflects whats going on. Well this is all my own opinion..adios
