  1. How long does it take to drive from SDK airport to the City centre? I have been to Sandakan by car from Tawau and to the airport on that awful TWU-SDK-BKI-KUL long flight, but have never been out of the airport myself. Anyone would like to share some info?

SDK's runway is quite long, even longer than new TWU. Wonder if the 744 will be able to land on there. I once took a 744 to SDK from TWU on FS2004, obviously TWU cannot handle it, but seems like it can fit at SDK.

The airport is 8 miles away from the city center.. and there's possibility of heavy traffic jams somwhere halfway. I would give it around 20 mins, maybe half an hour...but I only been there for one day... maybe unrelieable memory info.

  2. :D :D Can't drive yet. Took the JPJ test on Wednesday (5/4) and i fail ...... LOL. Now have to pay another RM100 to re-take next Wednesday, damn it ......

Wah RM 100 is a lot...cant afford to fail again lor. I wish you best of luck so that you can go spot planes day and night. :)

Just got back from eye spotting with Samuel. Saw B772 and Silk Air A319. We were at the end of rwy 02 and was standing at the bush direct to the left RR engine of -MRC. We were standing about 400-500 meters away and I was blown off balance where Samuel have the best time running towards the low fence when 777 rotating. And surprisingly the RR engines weren't noisy at the back than it was at the front.

The heat wind was similar to being blown by hairdryer (except added with A1 fuel aroma) and moments after that we were chased away by the patrollers. I think must be the 772 flight crews report about us standing close to the runway while taxing.

  3. Adrian, Lahad Datu airport reminds me of the old Tawau airport. Used to go there just to check out the F-27s. Just love it.

I see. o old Twu airport is exact replica of LHD eh? I seen the old terminal once about 3 years ago by passing through housing opposite the terminal on the other side of the airport. I can only vaguely remember the terminal size but the Tawau board at the top of terminal still fresh in my mind.

u r rite abt SDK airport... too far for good spotting. but i did find a gd spot "next" to our chief minister residence.... let me know when u drop by SDK again...

    cheers

Ok cool I'll contact you when I'm going back. The newly built Taman Airport just few hundred meters to the airport perimeter looks very promising for plane freaks to live there. Or at least I would. But the distant to town is just painstakingly far unless I work in airport LOL.

  4. sam,

good one. saw the pictures. looks like from the end of rwy 02. u went there alone? anyways, keep it up. will contact you if I'm around. heard adrian was in ldu?

    - btw, wat observation hill everyone is talking about -

    Dante,

Yeah I was. I'm back oredi at monday. Darn I so love LHD airport. The wind mixed with A1 perfume from the props is so magnificent...just too bad 4 flights a day and 2 to 4 hours apart are too long. I would flee to LHD just for watching F50 in upclose and personal.

During my LHD trip I went to Semporna...nothing much and I didn't know where the airstrip is that were once serviced by DHT. Before come back to KK I was in Sandakan for a day. Nothing special about SDK and the airport is way too far n quite hard to do spotting. LHD still in my top list for "Great airport to spot and near aircraft". Can't wait fo go back LHD next year.

Samuel, I maybe miss the Korean air events but I was happily getting "blow jobs" by F50 hehe. Love her sound when she is "turned on".

  5. Adrian,

i remember during the 80's i flew on MH F50 once.. Fuh.. so panas.. that they provide the Kipas satay..

    -cheers-

LOL Meor, are you sure it's F50? I think it's F27...F50 doesn't come till 88 or 89. I although I did have the experience of pressure cooking F50 where it was very hot sunny day (not mistaken was the drought season) and the cabin was quite hot.

When everyone boarded, the staircase was up and the whole cabin was airtight. No air circulation wat so ever coz the air-con haven't switch on yet.

We have to wait for around 5 minutes 3 to 5 minutes like that. By the time the aircon is on, everyone was sweating like hell.

  6. The Fokker 50 can be equipped with three or four doors. The four-door configuration eliminates the requirement for emergency exits midway along the fuselage and allows for a more flexible cabin layout. Experience with the F27 galley and cargo hold was used to introduce improvements in these areas in the Fokker 50. To meet individual customer requirements, a three-door configuration is also available which has emergency exits located at the standard positions. Elimination of the fourth door in the fuselage allows for installation of either an extra row of seats or a larger cargo hold. Optional is a Multi-Purpose Door (4 ft 3 in x 5 ft 5 in) at the left-hand side of the rear fuselage: this facilitates the loading of pallets, containers or other sizable goods.

  7. a really sad sight, 9m-meq being dismantled

    IPB Image

My heart has broken to pieces... this is one hell of a shot that stick a knife through heart. Teared up for MEQ. Bye bye my love.

I'm so furious seeing it like this. Darn! Those people.....

  8. Since we expect fresh and delicious food serve on board, some of the pre-packaged food served are not up to the standard of freshness for some people. What do you think about having onboard chef sounds (does not directly point to a certain airline!)?

Since Gulf Air does has this kind of service, I'm really curious about it and what the pax responds to this service?

  9. I doubt Airbus will allow them to cancel all the A380 orders. Think on the Airbus side, what you would feel if someone wants to buy ur product and then decides to cancel them?

About 747, maybe lease out 3/4 of them may generate some income for long term.

  10. Denny, I wonder the ATR PW127E engine sound are different from F50's PW125B? Since PW127 is also use on F60 and the sound is exactly the same with F50. Is any airlines in Taiwan still operate F50 or all of it has been sold (esp. Mandarin Airlines)? And thanks for the turboprobs, they are absolutely darlings.

  11. hey, i think those orange juice are nice. i really enjoy it chilled while watching the cloud or when sitting in business class while waiting for the c and y class to be filled.

one of my uncle who previously work at MH catering told me that some of the orange juice may be a bit bitter because of being chilled for a long period. i don't care how long it's been chilled but the bitter taste makes it good. now i always chilled my orange juice for a day or two before opening it just trying to get the same taste as the in-flight orange juice :D .

    Azuddin

LOL I agree. Me too especially now in hot sunny afternoon, nothing better than a small glass of chilled orange juice with 2 cubes of ice. C class glasses gives the feel of elegant and extremely perfect for enjoying while looking out the window and/or just chill out and drink the juice just like u are enjoying a glass of red wine. Always prefer orange juice than guava ones.

  12. DOes anyone know why BKI airport does not allow people to take photos of the aircraft in and outside the terminal building ? I got told off that day when I tried to take a pic.....!!!!!

That's weird. So far I haven't encounter that before. The day you left BKI on AK I even use flash to shot BKI terminal and the planes. So far no guards told me off or even confiscated my cam away. Although I'm quite afraid that happens coz the point and shoot is not even mine. :p

I guess "Spot at your own risk" applys.
