  1.

Nicely edited video and thanks for sharing your review! :clapping:

NIce video. Btw is it possible to mount suction cup for GoPro on the window? Planning to record some take off and landing using GoPro.

I dont have one myself but have seen folks seated around me doing so. The suction remained stuck to the window screen although I wouldnt know if the vibrations messed things up or not in the footage captured.

And that is why you either use the latest GoPro 6 or a Sony Action Camera which has fantastic image stabilization technology.

Problem with equipment is one thing, does it generate any unwanted attention from the crew as I read somewhere suction cup with gopro is a no-no on CX flight during take off and landing.

I was stopped once from taking photos of the cabin, and of all the airlines in the world, Scoot did it!

I'm tempted to get one of those gimbal gizmo for my camera - anyone care to speculate if that will prevent those jerky pictures when the plane touches down and do the shudders ? :)

    Thanks for the positive feedback.

Just FYI, the whole video was recorded, edited, rendered directly from my Samsung Galaxy S7. (flight mode on obviously)

    The gimbal? My hand :pardon:

There is enough space around the window for a suction cup, but as noted here, some airlines frown on that.

If you want to get a camera, the new Go Pro 6 helps thanks to the OIS, or the smaller mirrorless cameras that has OIS.

iPhone 8/X and Galaxy S8/Note 8 have great OIS tho.

  2. Got to share my own video of my short trip with the A350 - sorry for the plug :pardon:

    My takeaways:

    - That Y+(?) section is small, but i can see people wanting to pay for it

    - I like the fabric used on the seats

    - The Android-based IFE is usable. But silly there is no tail-mounted camera.

    - Huge windows are huge. My forehead rests on the window itself when I lean on it, rather than the bulkhead on other planes.

    - The best thing about the plane - it is very quiet. Similar decibel levels i think to an a380, and just a tad quieter than the 787. I flew with an a320 back and oh man, the sounds in the cabin sungguh meriah (from the hydraulic pumps and whatnot)

AirAsia X Eyeing Airbus A330 Lease Market

SYDNEY—AirAsia X is looking to lease more Airbus A330s to support growth before its A330neos begin arriving.
The long-haul LCC currently has no more A330ceos on order, and has a substantial gap before its A330neos are due to be delivered towards the end of 2018. So AAX is considering adding another 4-6 used A330s in 2017–18 through third-party leases, CEO Benyamin Ismail told Aviation Daily on the sidelines of the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit.
AAX has A350 orders due for delivery around 2020, although the carrier and Airbus have been discussing the possibility of advancing this schedule. Some production slots may be available to allow deliveries in 2019, Ismail said. The A350 will be a better fit for flights to Europe, Ismail said.
    More:

Both MAS and D7 looking for leasing contracts for a330s?

That plane family is really getting its value used to the fullest.

  4. 18 hrs with that cramped seating? no thanks!

Nah - their planes dont have the stamina to go 11 hours, much less 18.

What i envision is that they will be leveraging on Japan - the Japanese loooooves Hawaii.

We may see either of the following routes as part of their entry into US:

    KUL - HND - HNL

    KUL - KIX - HNL

    KUL - KIX - GUM

    KUL - NRT - HNL

Basically Japan will be the secondary spoke for US operations.

Well, unless they pick up a few 777 for their long distance flights.

  5. Effective 1 AUG 2017, ANA will deploy its 787-9 aircraft instead of 787-8 on Tokyo Haneda-Kuala Lumpur route:

Effective summer 2017, Saudia will deploy its 787-9 aircraft for its Kuala Lumpur operation from 3 Saudi Arabia main cities; Jeddah, Riyadh & Madinah (Medina):

    Oh my.

We may get the special painted ANA planes afterall!

  6.

    6-6 on B77W :D

    Good god.

The AK/D7 ladies would need super long hands (or selfie sticks!) to reach to the window passengers :D :D

I think they will only go for the B77W if the lease rates are super low and they are able to get a short term lease agreement to tie them over till 2H 2018.

Does it need to be a B77W tho? Especially when they can load it up with the light Mirus seats?

  7. it was a 777 and they were bussed to Bunga raya from satellite. The video on Facebook is a recycled video, during the first EK 380 arrival into KUL

Actually the 777 was with the Olympians. The Paralympics luck was that they got the a380 for the flight. EK346 was operated by A6-EEL yesterday. The paralympians were sitting at the front economy cabin, just behind 1L.

    Another unusual aircraft-gate assignment.

EK A380 bringing in Malaysian Paralympic athletes was assigned to the Bunga Raya Complex and was given a water canon salute.

I don't think the contingent chartered the entire A380 from Rio-Dubai to receive such treatment.

If the live feed yesterday was correct - that was a normal C gate. Not sure which gate was it though. Bunga Raya only received the paralympics - not the whole plane.

  8. While the two new hires from OZ are the current stars of D7, this piece of news is quite newsworthy - at least for me:

AirAsia X is expected to add new routes down under next year, including direct flights between Brisbane and KL and from a regional centre like Townsville.

So, possible option than Cairns, which is the closest 'big named city'?

  9. They should only try to attack the ME3 hubs once they are established in the European market. Doing so at this stage is suicidal.

    https://twitter.com/winglets747/status/763658113173954560

According to the Tweet above, D7 has denied it is starting the KUL-IST-BCN route this year. The loading of inventory into GDS was a "test".

My Q is, testing what? Are they planning a one stop route into LGW and used BCN as a decoy?

Perhaps their route planner jumped the gun?

Even so, this may just pave their way back to UK with multi-stop itineraries.

Can (on paper) the A330neo do 15 hours non stop to London?

  10. Yes, current layout for the owned B738 is 16 business class and 144 economy seats. There is some variation on seating with the leased planes.

Bellew might be describing B737-9 Max configuration when he said 180 seats. The Malindo B739s have 12 business and 168 economy seats.

I believe it is standard - they needed a more advanced winglet design to enable better performance and fuel savings.

Wonder if the Max9 can support MINT-like cabin up front.

Not sure if it is economically and MTW feasible though.
