  1. Qantas has offered voluntary redundancies to its cabin crew in response to high oil and jet fuel prices as well as the impact of global natural disasters.

Information about the deal was issued to 7,000 staff on Thursday.

The announcement came on the same day the airline announced its international unit carried 509,000 passengers in April 2011, up 7.4 per cent from April 2010.

Qantas last month announced it will lift the price of its European flights after the EU, under its emissions trading scheme, said it would force the airline to pay a tax on 15 per cent of its carbon emissions from its nearest port of departure.

The airline's chief executive Alan Joyce said in March that it faced the most serious challenge Qantas since the global financial crisis was at its peak.

"There has never been a time when the world faced so many natural disasters, all of which have come at a significant financial cost to Qantas Group," he said.

"We need to act decisively to respond to rising fuel costs and natural disasters, just like we did during the global financial crisis, to ensure the ongoing sustainability of our business.

  2. . Here's the best part, MH seems to maintain its 734s like some third world airline, treating it like a bus. Its tray tables weren't uniform. Some seemed scavenged from some older aircraft. It's side paneling lights seemed to be a mumbo jumbo of diff kinds. They'd do well as a karanguni (rag and bone man). Stories aside, MH can replace all the aircraft it wants. But if it wants to stay on top, it has to ensure that it bucks up with maintenance and ensure its fleet is kept young. Frankly, its A330s should’ve been refurbished properly in 2005 and the 734s retired.

I personally dont think MH has any issues with maintainance, as aircraft maintainance procedures followed by MH is pretty much the same as all major carriers around. If their maintainance was that bad SQ wouldnt have taken the 2 747's that MH discarded into their fleet which they used for their flights to AKL. I would think you are rather refereing to cosmetic

  3. There are a lot of MH (and FY) employees being a member of this forum. The majority of them especially those who make their positions in the company known to everyone rather keep tight with the code of silence that the company imposes to them. There are also a few who might be a little bit adventurous and have been leaking confidential infos to this forum through the MH Rumour Department. However, so far I encountered 2 members who seemed to be working with the company because of their remark of 'I know it because I know it' while trying to explain their point. I mean no disrespect but if you are going to make such remark, might as well you just keep it to yourself because it has 0 input value into the discussion rather than (in my opinion) a weak attempt to gain a little personal attention. No body owes me an explanation anyway so why bother.

I am being quite honest when addressing the point of petty things are a sign of major things 'hancur and melingkup'. Keeping the petty things aside, when seeing MH as a business organisation, outstanding events that come into my mind are the Tajuddin Ramli scandal, the record billion Ringgit loss, the asset unbundling exercise, PMB with vague financial disclosures, the business turnaround plans, profits derived from sales of PPEs (and at present derivatives) and not from operation, late business decision makings, purchase of aircrafts (A380) not because of solid business plan but rather for prestige, flying to unprofitable destinations for (again) prestige, foreign CON-sultans rejected by other airlines in the West but landed a plum job with MH, the 3 million Ringgit painting scandal, the Chairman's freeloading-London-3 times a week-tapau-Dom Perignon scandal et al. I mean, the negative outweights the positive and those are reported events that signify hancur and melingkup that happened within MH in the past that stick in the mind of customers like me.

You made a remark about my knowledge twice, but I hope you are aware that my comments are made based on my growing knowledge and experience. I went from the typical yuppy who would 'Yay, MH is the best in the world', '5 star going beyond expectation', flying MH every other week circa 2003/4 to my current state where I have not been a revenue MH passenger since 8 December 2008 and divest from Enrich to 3 other foreign FFPs.

My main point with the remark of petty thing hancur melingkup is simply that typical customers do not know what is happening inside the airline. So it will benefit the airline tremendously if it can perfects the petty and tiny things that are apparent to the passengers as it will translate into a certain positive imagery of the airline as a whole from the customers' point of view.

    I fully agree with this.

  4. I was actually to bring out this matter in my quoted reply above and I am 100% agree with you. Yet again, Enrich members are being left in the dark.

Enrich claimed to have more than 2 million members. Surely 0.01% of them can be present at the event.

Mushrif, I hope you don't mind if I share that reply of yours in the corresponding thread in A.Net. The whole world NEED to read it.

    That link doesnt work.

  5. I think MH would most probably did their homework that they cannot compete with others in C class both in terms of number of pax and charging premium price in long run at least. Therefore not much thoughts have been given into the C class.

At least Y class is awesome~~ Don't forget MH won Best Economy Class service before, perhaps MH is now putting its energy on Y class only?? Those Boxy C class is so yesterday by today's standard...:)

It doesnt quite work that way. You dont just give up because you think your competitior is better. No free lunch in the bussiness world.

If you offer improved products over your competitor,be rest assured that people will travel with you. So no excuse for not having a better C product.

  6. Why does MH have more J seats then SQ?Is MH carrying more bussiness pax then SQ?Or will most of the seats travel empty? 30 seems to be such a perfect figure.

    MH new A333 - 38J + 245Y = 283 seats

    SQ new A333 - 30J + 255Y = 285 seats

Seats on TG doesnt look comfortable tho. Hope they have anti slip covers!

  7. You need to do a PEN-SDK non-stop for a 4 hours domestic flight in Malaysia. In an ATR-72.

    [/quote: V

Ha ha ha thats cheating captain, using a turbo prop.

    ATR crusing speed: 526km/h

    737 400 cruisng speed 813km/h

With that 4 hours flight time from KUL will take you to CCU.

Actually the point I am trying to make is that travel distance between major cities in Australia are long and hence people have no choice but to fly.NOt that the land infrastructure is not there.

Compared to malaysia, we would consider driving to Penang from KUL or taking a flight, hence a choice is available.

  8. This thing would have made into court if this incident took place in the United States. No doubt that 5' is short but there are many gymnasts who are this short too and it doesn't mean they are any less stronger than those who are taller and bigger.

THe only people who cant seat at the emergency exit rows are pregnant women over 6 months, children and handicap pax. Being short isnt one of them. The exit frame weights 15kgs and if you can lift that youre fine. Hence there must be another reason for the move.

  9. Yes we do. I agree.

If its a hotel employee the hotel will shut doors and bussiness will close.

I hope its not a cover up of some sort. Security cameras are always used in all floors of hotels and any movememtns into rooms should have beem captured by CCTV.

    How come we heard nothing?

Hope MH will go all out for this one.

  10. So how come Ive seen the seats empty on several flights. Maybe the crew are not following SOP ?

At Jetstar safety is the prime concern. We move pax if needed to fullfil the 2 + 2 seating at overwings regardless how much has been paid.

UNfortunately I cant speak about other airlines as they may have different procedures.

  11. As far as Jetstar is concerned, a minimum of 2 people MUST occupy each row of the emergency exits and the reason is for the opening of the window hatches.

I notice asians like to jump seats at their own whim and fancies but westerners normally stay put at their seats even if the whole row acorss is empty and ask the crew permission should they want to move to another seat.

At Jetstar, your are only allowed to move seats within zones as the a/c is devided into 3 zones and that also after take off.

    The above applies to A320.
