  1. Interesting that you brought this up.

There are a number of premier airlines (especially middle eastern carriers) still without alliances.

Just to name a few: EK,QR.

Might even be able to rope in Air Asia + Virgin (almost impossible, but anything can happen eh?) or Kingfisher, tho I'm not sure about the latter's current status in terms of joining an alliance. Have they committed themselves to an alliance already?

As for other options, I think if MH were to join OneWorld, it would give them more depth as far as "strengthening" their presence in Asia is concerned. CX does cover a healthy number of Asian routes, but MH would offer them greater variety.

    What you guys think?

MH;s identity is already in a very confused state and hence joining with likes of Air Asia is not a good idea and on the other hand I dont think EK will be interested to form alliace with MH for 2 reasons, one is it flies to all international destination MH flies to and secondly it is cash rich and hence no need alliance.

The thread title is no more relevant as MH is not the airline being reconsidered to join Sky team in 2010 but is is Garuda.

Mod please change to appropriate title.

  2. In an interview with ETN (http://www.eturbonews.com/16979/exclusive-interview-air-france-klm-president-pierre-henri-gourge), AF-KLM president said:

Although Skyteam further looks for a partner in India – Jet Airways could be the right airline, as both Air India an Kingfisher Airlines are due to join, respectively, Star Alliance and Oneworld - Southeast Asia is rapidly gaining weight for the grouping. Vietnam Airlines joined officially on June 21, adding 20 new destinations to the SkyTeam network. “I can coonfirm that we are now in advanced discussions with Garuda Indonesia,” he explained.

Looks like Skyteam is really trying to strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia.

The statement from the president echoes similar statement by GA's CEO on the airline's entry to the alliance next year.

MH shouldnt waste time worrying about Air Asia and even SQ (this one has always been around MH from day 1) but their serious contender is GARUDA.

If not careful its very very soon it will blow slow govverment controlled MAS out of the picture and it will be all too late. Alliance or not.

Now airlines are concentrating on BKK and SIN, and if not careful the last few remaining will skip KUL and go to jakarta(Sky team KLM)

MH better join the last remaining alliance. It been 2 yeras this thread started and you have done nothing about it.Watch you back for Garuda.

  3. Following other airlines' footstpes in this context means buying A380. Just because SQ and TG bought A380s, doesn't mean MH have to follow suit.

Do you have any prove that MH managememt only bought the A380 for one reason and only one, because SQ and TG bought it?Why did they but 6?Is it because TG ordered 6?

Or maybe the management felt at that point in time that the valid replacement jet for 747 which could be delivered in 2007 was the A380?

Do you think Other airlines like EK and QF also bought the A380 so that they dont get left behind with obsolete fleet and remain competative.?

  4. Word from MASEU...

    MASEU: Just Cancel A380 Orders

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Airlines System Employees Union (MASEU) has called on Malaysia Airlines (MAS) to just cancel the orders for the Airbus A380 aircraft.

"At the point of receiving the said aircraft in 2012, it would have become outdated in the airline industry," said MASEU Executive Secretary Mustafar Maarof in a statement on Thursday.

According to the union, MAS needs to change its business strategy and avoid following in the footsteps of other airline companies in the region.

"MAS can operate more comfortably and economically by building its business modus operandi in facing the stiff competition at the global level," Mustafar said.

Airbus was to have delivered the A380 in January 2007 but has had to postpone it to early 2012.

"This is something not aceptable in undertaking business in the airline industry.

"If MAS still decides to wait, then it will fail to update and draft a framework and business model in the new era of the airline industry," Mustafar noted.

From the perspective of labour laws, the MASEU said the A380 had changed the manner and rest hours of cabin crew on the aircraft.

    -- BERNAMA

MASEU talks nonsense. If you want to have it their way they rather that Mh keeps all their 737 400 and A330 aircraft at the expense of the travelling public and rather the money channnel to themselvea with higher salaries.

  5. If MH never operated 747's then I would agree that A380 is too large for them. A380 is only 20 percent bigger than 747 in terms of pax numbers and please remember that MH operated 17 747's during the past. So to all those who think its too big for MH, guess youre wrong.

The A380 has its own large following from the flying public and MH one would nbe no exception. Just advetise,A380 services from Australia to Europe with MH hospitality and if doesnt fill up the cabins I would be surprised.

Intriduction of Premium class is a big plus for MH as it differentiates MH procuct from SQ and I can bet my bottom dollat that that fill up pretty easily. Many people just want a comfortable seat, minus the louge use and bussiness class service. Just a nice meal one one tray will do and of course hot towels should be reintroduced on all international services.

Config wise, I hope MH will opt for Fist class on Main deck,Bussiness class and premium eco on uppperdeck.

I hope Airbus keeps to their promise this time and does not push MH delivery slots further, they have gone one step too far in pushing MH dates while delivering to other like EK and SQ and QF.

  6. LCC mentality, never know how to operate from terminal with aerobridges!

Have you already read the report from the investigation on this oone? You seem to already know what happened. Its one thing to discuss but to point a finger outrightly and speak about LCC mentality,I am sure you already have the above eeport. Mind sharing?

  7. Any info on the rego of this aircraft? Recently another AK A320 involved in a pressurization incident mid air too (it was on flight AK 739 BKK-KUL on 25 May 2010 aboard 9M-AHG). And it was reported in full glorious details by SQflyergirl, the super-grand-diva and also founder of SQ Talk. This is her trip report, The day I feared for my life: The most harrowing 40 minutes on a plane I've ever spent. http://www.sqtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9526

Thanks for the link Azizul. Funny how this planes are new but still have this kind of pressurization problems.Wonder what will happen when they start to come out of China!

Waiting for the rego info just like you.Paging for Ramani.

  8. the male FA uniform looks Ak's alike...

100 percent true. I did not wanrt to be the one to say it first but for the boys they just copied AK. There will be confusion with AK crew from the general public. Why have a look alike?Dont they want to have their own identity?Beats me.

  9. If you're a big guy, you'll appreciate the difference. If it's Economy, I rather fly on something with better pitch than being crammed in a state of the art but slightly less comfortable plane, especially if I'm stuck in the window seat and the person next to me isn't willing to trade seats. Besides, many people have all the iThings to entertain them so I don't think IFE is that important.

Agreed the seat pitch and I hope that that will not change with the new planes on order or the last dangling carrot will also be gone.

For some reason as far as the service is concerned I cannot forget the TR from Azizul to LHR on MH firsdt class. Terrible food (Not all courses but totally lacking in some key course) and not proffesional service.

The stewardess told him: Ingatkan budak lagi. sums up the service attitude rendered on that flight.

  10. For some people, being in 34" seat of MH is a much better experience compared to being in QF A380, EK 777 and others. Although their hardwares are not that great, their cabin crew always make up for it.

Nice joke Johan, better to be on Old MH bird than on a brand new A380. Very funny. Possibly you are the only one who would prefer to trave on an MH A330 half way across the world as apposed to being on an A380 if there is a choice.

  11. QF came 7th??? How on earth did that happen? Both MH and TG are miles ahead of QF!! MH won't have a chance of making the top 5 until they upgrade their product with all their new planes...

    2 flaws I see:

    1. QF should not be in the list but replaced by Kingfisher.

    2. MH best economy class? Mh A330 cabin best in the world? With SQ having upgraded all their fleet for Y class cabin to big PTVs and new interior, this award belongs to them.
