    Year 2011 comes to an end, just want to share what's new in Perth-YPPH, the NEW spectator viewing facility aka obs hill aka spotters dream come true....at Rwy 03.

    Abandoned since February, not surprised this thread is collecting heaps of dust and stashed on the 3rd page already. Just to dust bust the thread.. presenting you the newest addition to the Western Australia Police Air Wing Support Unit Eurocopter AS365N3 - Dauphin 2. Still without markings and such. Just playing lucky that it went on test flight today for the press I think as they are tv reporters on one side of the fence, and reporters on my end.. :blink:

    It was in use, threshold displaced to around Alpha 1 intersection, so about 400-500m of runway gone i think.. some night arrivals are 07 as they can't visually see the displaced area clearly at night. Pothole/roadwork still being done today with equipments on the runway itself. Localizer on runway 25 are for guidance only, before landing visually.

    Runway 07 papi are reportedly unserviceable as some pilots reported all four white.. As per notam, papi on 25 were taken down for maintenance too.. whatever is going on with soo many things happening just on the runway itself. <_>

    I personally think we don't need to upgrade at all, I mean who are we fighting or protecting against? It's sad that these million/billion dollar taxpayer funded toys are only used in exercise bersama, big day fly-by's and static displays in airbases open days. What the airforce really need are more heavy duty patrol planes and helicopters to protect our waters from pirates and illegal immigrant. Look at where these fighter planes are even based at.. should any intruder/war mongers attack us in Sabah and Sarawak (their main fix deposits) and scrambling from Kuantan or Butterworth will only be a damage report mission rather than any good use of defence.

     

    But if we are to really replace those old chunks of Mig metal, I would like to see minimal purchases just enough to form ONE squadron regardless of types. I mean we have only 8 hornets and that is more than enough I reckon, so any purchases at minimal order is at the best interest of the country. Not like they'd let you see the whole fleet in airshows anyway.. <_>

     

    And yes, please only order after the next General Election :good:
