I can imagine the experts bashing MH in the not-so-distant future for its short sighted fleet renewal plans -- why didn't MH take advantage of lower rates to renew their fleet, the average age in 2021 was almost 9 years old, why wait till 2025, SQ/CX/VN/TG/GA/everyone else already have shiny new planes, how can they serve so many destinations with only 6 A350s, etc etc.

Anyway, I hope they'll keep the experts fully informed of their decision making. The experts are the ones who'll determine the direction of our beloved MH.

I seem to recall MH already committing to a fleet renewal. Then and10t went and cancelled it all.

  2. Malaysia to stop funding national carrier if lessor talks fail

According to the latest document, under a “Plan B” scenario, Khazanah would “inject funds into Firefly directly to start new jet operations at Kuala Lumpur on a much smaller scale, focusing first on domestic services.”

Would I be right in assuming MH's two daily LHR flights are being maintained (so far at least) regardless of yields or loads just so those precious slots can be retained ?

The EU is relaxing the slot usage rule, will the Brits do the same?

if the company having good earnings and healthy balance sheet, it wasn't an issue paying high amount of allowance to senior management, when it is not, the senior management must lead by example before chopping the lower tier for cost cutting measures. too bad, MAS was chopping the lower tier as oppose to trimming the higher end ones.

Or maybe the senior management's pay is not a significant portion of the cost that the low hanging fruits can be let go...

  5. Nothing wrong in seeking an offset, says Dr M

    🤣

This reminds me about how in the 1990s, Tajuddin Ramli used the threat of not buying any Airbus products ever again when he didn't get slots to increase flights into CDG to daily.

It is confusing because the naming convention for KLIA is non standard. Most major airports name their terminals 1, 2, 3.. or A, B, C.. whereas KLIA is not KLIA Terminal 1, it is KLIA, with a Main terminal and a satellite terminal. And KLIA2 is not terminal 2..

It is not confusing to us because we are used to it.. for a first time visitor I think is can be rather confusing.. more so if he's well traveled and are used to naming conventions at other major airports.

I honestly don't understand how it is confusing. The only omission is the word "Terminal".

    So basically, nothing la.. haha

Personally, from my limited knowledge, I don't think there is any wrongdoing either. Unethical, maybe. But not corruption. I don't know.. hmm

Maybe, but it's a bit dumb for AirAsia Executive 1 to write this:

“Honestly [Airbus employee 1 [senior]] I'm fed up. You owe me 4 million already and I’m owed 16 million in total. This shd have been pauid [sic] ages ago when I bought thre [sic] first 60 aircraft. I want my money and I want compensation … pay up. I want my whole 16 million now..”

  8. It's actually no more confusing than Heathrow Terminal 4 actually.

The reason why KLIA2 & KLIA Main Terminal is not connected airside is two-fold - KLIA2 was built years after the Main Terminal, and there are few if any interlining between the airlines using the main terminal which are predominantly Full Service Carriers, and KLIA2 which are predominantly Low Cost Carriers.

  9. While Boeing deals with the repercussions of the MAX, Airbus deals with the repercussions of a massive bribery scandal.

Among the alleged recepients include TransAsia Airways, Sri Lankan Airlines, Garuda and AirAsia.

In AirAsia's case, the alleged bribe came in the form of sponsorship of the Caterham F1 team.

Either way there's going to be plenty of flak. If they restrict the entry of Chinese tourists they're going to be bashed for failing to achieve tourism targets, passenger traffic, etc etc. If they don't, the overnight medical experts will criticise them for being wilfully blind.

Right now the consensus is that tourism targets be damned. Safety comes first.

Especially now that the WHO has declared it to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern - which means the government now has the right to stop inbound travelers from China.

Probably because they need to redeploy planes to high demand routes for the Summer Olympics.

Wow i've never heard of a330 being less fuel efficient let alone one that is on PW. What sort of weed you've been smoking? It is bassically one of the most fuel efficient widebody. The a330neo is only efficient if you put up more seats like an lcc as the rolls royce engines are more power hungry.

Try changing a y ticket on JAL it cost as a brand new ticket unless its flex full fare.

You guys are asking the impossible in a very unstable market at the moment. Its simple Malaysians are too poor cheapskate to fly fsc, foreign premium pax have abandoned malaysia. Transiting passengers are on subsidised gulf carriers that offer greater value product and services.  Not helping is the current government promoting many inconsistent policies that have deterred investors to neighboring countries instead. More so our pm has been busy angering neighboring countries and trade partners on policies which he believes is right regardless of diplomacy.

Car prices are increasing 25% oh  wait its not confirmed til year end. How is government going to instill investor confidence with this kind of flip flopping. And with lack of foreign businesses for fdis how do you expect flag carriers to stay afloat unless it goes full low carrier which many of us are not keen on it.

    Exactly.

AAG may not be too interested either because it may incur more cost to them saving or changing the mindset of the MH mentality 🤐😙😙

Honestly AK's mentality isn't that great either.

Sure they are profitable, but from what I'm told their internal processes are all over the place.

Isn't that RM 1.4bn what Khazanah needs to fork out to keep MH operational? Does it mean that if there is a merger, MH will no longer come with a begging bowl every year?

Of course, because MH would cease to exist if D7 took over.

  15. JL's proposal involves revamping MH's revenue management, assist in turning around the airline, and working to make KUL a hub worthy of competition with BKK & SIN.

But Khazanah feels it's not that great because "believed AAGB would fetch the fund RM1.4 bil a year in synergies but did not outline how they would accrue. There were no hard figures on valuations."
