  1.

Its too bad they have to lose some customers for now but it will be good for their bottom line overall.

Give them a few more years to find out it this decision proves to be a flawed one.

I'd agree that they've done their sums and arrived at this decision, right or wrong, time will tell, as you say. I make my statements not on the basis of whatever profit/revenue assumptions they make, but purely on my own observations, which center around passenger experience.

Me talking about revenue, yield, fleet utilisation or whatever financial metric airlines use internally is the same as me talking about peeing standing up - I lack neither the knowledge nor experience to definitively comment on that.

That is why I need to hear more from KA pax.

Out of necessity, many regular CX pax are also regular KA pax. They're not mutually exclusive.

From what I've seen on this thread alone, whichever side of the fence you sit on, whether for or against this move, opinions posted have been based on actual experience with both airlines. Like in any forum, whilst one can disagree/agree with statements made, I can appreciate the diversity of opinions.

Ergo - you've already heard from the KA pax.

  2. Most noise came from those traveling on the front actually. I guess the body of those traveling up front (some, not pointing fingers to all) is so different than those traveling steerage they need a Cirrus flat bed even on a short-haul just so they can get well rested. Post this on A.net people will start calling you names but luckily this is mw.com where people are a lot more forgiving.

Your assumption that every time one of "these" persons flies, starts and ends the journey in HKG is flawed. After a 15:50 JFK-HKG, some of "these" people want to continue sleeping. The option is there today, it will not be there tomorrow. Even if the journey started and ended in Hong Kong, if the seat was there for the taking, why shun it?

I fail to see why body types have got anything to do with preferences, and by that virtue, I fail to see why a properly written argument as to WHY not having cirrus is a loss would attract scorn on a.net or any forum for that matter.

Of course, if a post was driven by emotion and or insults without basis, then yes, I can see how one would get called names. I'm thinking these insults don't happen on MW right? It is after all you who point out the "more forgiving" nature here..... ;)

  3. Somehow I don't see any of the so called "low cost" in Dragonair...

It's not about the low costness. There are little touches - that CX does, that KA doesn't. They lack the polish and flair of CX.

That said, of course, KA is no LCC, but I've not seen anyone here say it is.

    Low Cost? No.

    Lower Quality? Yes.

I do an average of 35-40 CX/KA legs a year, and comparing only the shorthauls (as KA doesn't do longhaul, so the comparison would be unfair) - the difference to me is quite marked. YMMV.

  4. All of KA 19x A330-300 have the exact same seats you see on CX 2-class Regional A330-300. Everything is AVOD and the Business Class is the latest Recaro Business Class CX introduced about two years ago

Yes, you are right... but the point some are trying to make with regards to inferior hard product is that on some flights, with careful selection, it is possible to get a 33E or 33K config with CX. That won't be possible with KA, unless as a matter of rotation they're planning to send the 3 class 33R with cirrus which they sell as F, and opening up those seats for pax as J.

  5.

    Where else? MH B738?

If they keep on selling an inferior hard product after the switch for the same price then nice move indeed for CX hahaha :)

But on a serious note, they have no direct competition for non stop flight now.. MH 738 is probably a less desirable option anyway

Pretty liberal (read: ridiculous) in my company on how they justify flights (read: lame excuses). To be frank, nobody needs a flat bed for 3 1/2 hour flight.. and SQ is pretty expensive. It certainly was/is hard to justify but with this it will be good enough an excuse now to fly down south to SIN and back up if they so choose. I just need to learn bluff like the boys. So no... at least for the few of my colleagues clever enough to BS - the winner isn't actually MH

  6. AA has a better program. No elite hogwash, just BIG points

That one is pretty good. I think you can even redeem AA merchandise like model planes and lanyards/caps and stuff. Tan Sri TF knows how to market stuff!

Err... look at the questions... which FFP will you have Yes and Yes for questions 1 and 2?

Belum cuba belum tau right? I don't know FFP's very well, but when I get the chance I'm going to check out Ashley's suggestions below - admittedly I've never heard of them but then maybe it's those obscure ones that are best!

I hear the Sir Turtle Rewards, 7th Heaven Rewards and Mr Happiness Reward FFPs are the ones to be in right now. :acute:

  7. While we are talking about the many types of J seats one airline has, can we also talk about AA's J:

    - Cirrus reverse herringbone on their 77W

    - the yet to be launched B/E Super Diamond on half of their 772 and new 789

    - Customized Cirrus yin-yang on their 77D and 788

    - NGBC angled lie-flat on the older 767/777/757

    - B/E Diamond on their 321T

    - unannounced flat bed for their TATL 757

    I didn't know Air Asia had 777's ?

  8.

Don't get me wrong, I agree completely.

My point is that that will be how they "solve" this issue. Pretty straightforward.

Anyway, here's hoping that as further details are released, we'll hear more on the lines of 'with the introduction of Firefly Jet' or something.

The conundrum is tricky: but as long as it is MH coded, MH operated, and so long as MH is a member of oneworld - then the standard benefits have got to apply. The way around it is of course like you say - "firefly jet". The closest analog in my memory is TG and WE (thaismile)

Please be more realistic. The Araliya lounge at CMB vs the LH FCT is a better comparison.

That's a good fight. Another close fight would be Coral CNX vs Al-Safwa. :D

  9. TYO is indeed the code to denote Tokyo, and this nomenclature is commonly used for cities with multiple airports.

The basis for this is the usage in fares which allow some/all the applicable airports in that city as being acceptable "co-terminals" for departure/arrival - if the airline operates to it.

A GDS query for SIN-TYO on NH will pull up both SIN-HND and SIN-NRT flights.

Other commonly used coterminal cities - NYC, LON, BER.
