  1. Earlier this afternoon -LNC positioned SZB-KUL using the unusual flight number of OD9001.

Curious to know why it's been at SZB for an extended period presumably undergoing some kind of maintenance.

Could it of possibly been at Airod having the seats changed? I think Airod used to fit the seats into their earlier deliveries which were delivered with only J class seats installed.

The flight number used is interesting as Malindo uses OD5001/5002 flight numbers for maintenance ferry flights to/from Batam Aero Technic, Indonesia.

  2. MH's current fleet of A333's isn't actually that old and being a A330-323X's they are very capable aircraft.

I do at times, wonder why they opted to remain with P&W engines which aren't the least common power plant on the A330's. That said, there are a number of operators that have a mix of PW, RR and GE engines in their fleets.

Small steps for MH and I believe their best move would be to acquire some similar A333's on the leasing market and configure them identically to -MTA etc, although maybe without the Y+.

If the A350's also service AKL that'll free up a couple of A333's for regional expansion.

  3. Interesting stuff there, also bare in-mind Christmas and Cocos Islands are up that way too although I'm not sure if these would be approved diversion points although both see regular B737F and A320 services. -LNW is back in action now after a period of maintenance so presumably Perth flights with now exclusively revert back to -LNV, W and Y.

I seem to recall talk about OD starting up a KL-XCH service on here. but I don't believe it ever eventuated.

Getting back on-topic OD seems to be over-stocked with surplus planes at the moment...-LRD is still parked at up at KLIA awaiting service entry. Seems OD 'inherited' these 737MAX's unexpectedly and is therefore struggling to find destinations for them, whilst I think it's awesome that OD is the world's first MAX operator I think that these aircraft could of better been deployed within the Lion Group for better efficiency and suitability. OD still markets themselves as a full-service/hybrid carrier and having these LCC configured planes goes against that. Interestingly last week whilst flying OD802/801 the pilot mentioned in his spiel that these were to be used for 'charter'.

  4. Neither does -LCM and I can confirm -LCK definitely doesn't either.

So that makes it: -LNC, LND, LCK, LCL, LCM and presumably LCP also.

-LNC hasn't flown for a at least a month now so I wonder if this is at Batam Aero Technic having PTV screens fitted??

900ER -LNL is still parked opposite B6 with it's engines covered over and plastic sheeting over several missing fuselage panels on her port-side and doesn't appear to of flown since late April.

With recent deliveries there's always appear to be excess OD B737's parked languishing at KL.

  5. I'm awaiting to board -LRC in Singapore as OD802 up to KL then onwards to PEN and surprise surprise it's been delayed...OD are flipping useless.

Also there's whisper getting around the circles that OD155 departing KL on the 10th June may have taken an incorrect route for the variant of B738 operating that route. Whisper is -LNU took an ETOPS/ETDO southerly ocean routing instead of tracking towards DPS then tracking overland southbound towards Perth. I haven't seen the flight data yet, so I'm a tad skeptical.

Are southern India/Columbo and Perth flights all subject to EDTO requirements?

  6. I heard of the deviation at the time back in late February but was unaware of the reason behind it.

Think this one was avoided any media scrutiny or exposure.

Unusual occurrence for a relatively new airframe.

http://avherald.com/h?article=4a75d349&opt=0 (may have to cut and paste)

Why would it take 30+days to replace quite a common engine could it of possibly been an uncontained failure and/or completed a overweight landing?

This explains why -LNY is currently sporting a Batik thrust reverser cowling.

  7. Wow that interior truly is disappointing, drab and very Lion Air-esq.

I like the 'Operated by Malindo' decals, hopefully when the stickers are removed off the remainder of the fleet currently wearing Batik colours they'll all have these small decals applied.

I like the 'beefed' up nosegear.

  8. A couple of interesting tidbits.

Batik Air Indonesia are finally starting up DPS-PER-DPS flights in June twice daily using a B739ER.

There is a rumour circulating that Malindo are set to commence trans-tasman services potentially from PER to destinations in NZ, using bilateral agreements which are currently in-place, similar to what D7 does from OOL.

  9. Slightly off-topic...OD155/156 KL-PER-KL was operated by -LCF on the 3 and 4th March and tonight's flight is being operated by -LCC.

First time non EDTO rated B738's have operated this route, they fly an inland route towards DPS then inland down Western Australia instead of staying off the coast.

-LND dropped in last week after replacing -LNY which was involved in a mid-air turn-back to KL and hasn't flown since.

  10. Nope, the article never mentioned KUL-BNE being on an A330, only MEL and SYD. The BNE flight will most definitely be routed viaDPS.

The BNE-Malaysia market is quite weak compared to MEL, SYD and PER so its tougher to crack, wasn't MH loosing money on the route? I doesn't look like MH is too keen to comeback and D7 is happy at OOL, atleast SE Queensland has direct flights to KUL.

If that's correct and you'd have to assume Malindo has done the market research maybe it's a way for Batik to tap into the luractive Aust-DPS holidaymaker traffic and provide further exposure of the Lion/Batik group in Australia and its long been rumoured they want to set up a domestic low cost operation there. Also of note Batik Air Indonesia despite being granted CASA approval still hasn't commenced tickets for their DPS-PER-DPS services which are rumoured to be operated by 737-900ER's.

In the immediate future OD really needs to get their act together and improve their reliabity and OTP. I heading back to Perth tomorrow after 5 weeks in Penang and SE Asia with all my 19 sectors being on Malindo, with the exception of one KL-DMK sector where I had to book a last minute FD flight due to a missed OD connecting flight!!

    * Delayed flights in general including then subsequent missed connections - which OD is renown for.

    * Retimed flights

    * Last minute aircraft downgrades after checkin - had an argument with gate staff last week who tried to tell me there was a 32F on a B738.

    * Gate staff feeding pax misinformation telling pax 'engineering issues are delaying flights when after overhearing them say to each other it's crewing issues'

    * Inconsistent hard product which differs betweens aircraft e.g. -LNC and D.

    * FA's are either outstanding or the complete opposite - robotic and appear unenthused

    * Dirty and filthy aircraft both inside and outside - next time you take an OD flight look at the overhead PSU's and the windows.

Despite flying on one of their inaugural flights from KCH-KL back in 2013 they still seem to be an airline plagued by infantile issues which need to be addressed so they can truly become a slick highly regarded operation.

  11. Both OD151/152 and 155/156 for the past couple of days and OD151 flew a similar inland routing, -LNV and -LNW both operated services.

OD152 tonight -LNV is operating the 'usual' EDTO routing back to KL.

Interestingly flying a non EDTO route overhead DPS then inland over WA returned an identical flight time to the open ocean flightpath.

  12. Just got myself a copy too. I was as surprised as you are. I dont think they have make any official announcement yet, correct me if I'm wrong. This must be one of the world's longest B739/B738 flight. Can't imagine stuck in narrowbody for such a long time....

KUL-BNE is about 6450km direct not including fuel reserves, OD lists the maximum range of the B737-900ER as 5990kms....something doesn't add up?!

Unless the magazine has a typo and the flight operates via somewhere like DRW??

  13. Hi folks,

Anyone know what's happened to Malindo's 9M-LCL? Flew 24-26 Jan BFI-HNL-PNI-KUL as MXD01 and then flew out to BTH late on the 26th as MXD5002 but no movements seen since on FR24. Usually they go into service fairly quickly so I'm a bit suspicious something is afoot with this one. Any info?

Also 9M-LCM is ready for delivery and should go any day now.

Next one is 9M-LCP ln 6282 and should be making first flight any day too.

    :)

-LCK the one which carries the '178th Lion Group' B737-800 is still yet to enter service and this one arrived well before -LCL.

They are both taped up and seemingly in storage at Batamaerotechnic, use that # on IG and you'll find some images of them in the background of other shots at BTH.

Both -LND which entered service 8 days before -LNC are currently flying about without IFE installed so this might be a factor.

  14. Just following on from my posting in the 2017 deliveries thread BNE is now listed in the February edition of Malindomag, wasn't even aware it had been announced.

Also something of interest...OD151 down to PER for the second consecutive day has operated a non ETOPS flight path, normally this flight overflies Pelembang then south over the Indian Ocean, again today its heading towards Bali and then turned south overflying Western Australia.

This increases the flight time and obviously the distance.

It's being operated by 9M-LNV the 'usual' Perth plane.

    Any reasoning behind this?
