  1. On the subject of these incoming ex AB A332's have just checked Airfleets which has been updated and it lists the following frames heading to MAB.

    9M-MTU cn665 ex D-ABXC currently in SIN

    9M-MTV cn822 ex D-ABXD currently in MNL

    9M-MT? cn828 ex D-ALPI

    9M-MT? cn911 ex D-ALPJ

I'm not convinced this info is 100% correct as I thought 9M-MTU was the former D-ALPI.

  2. As they are ex-AB, they are not configured for long haul. I believe that MAB is not making many mods to the aircraft. They will serve on the same regional routes as the B738s - so long haul capabilities are not required.

In their former lives with AB they were operated on long hauls to SFO and LAX, which SFO has a flying time of just over 13+ hours.

With the lease return of 6 B738’s -MSC/D/H/I/J, MXP and -MAB/C joining the fleet has actually reduced by -4 frames in strength.

  3. Here is the state of play for 2017 - I have created a Google spreadsheet for this year.

Good work man, were -AFG and -AFO ever operated by PIA or were they ntu, seem to remember -AFG was painted out of it yellow Expedia livery pending lease then re-entered service in an albino scheme?

  4. I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right thread (kindly delete if it's wrongly posted); what are the registrations of the B737s in Malindo fleet which does not have IFE screen? I remember OD do have couple of their B737s without the IFE screens onboard.

    Thanks!

-LNC, LND, LCK, LCL, LCM and LCP. There was some discussion that LND had been fitted with IFE a few months back, but not sure if this was ever visually confirmed.

  5. Here's an interesting one I've picked up on Skyliner.

It looks like FD/Thai Air Asia is shedding some capacity...

A320-216SL c/n 5918 ferried CRK-HRB 30/11/17 as B-8980 on delivery to LongJiang Airlines ex OE-IGI/HS-BBK. Surprised this didn't get transferred within the group.

I also know Lion Air has shed a couple of B739ER's recently to either a Korean or Japanese outfit.

  6. Just been reading a CAPA article that D7 is slashing their PER services by 50%, it'll be interesting to see whether it's the AM or PM flight ex PER.

If it was the PM flight one has to wonder whether MH will adjust their schedules to an afternoon departure and upgauge to a A332/A333.

It's quite a lucrative time slot for onwards connections, maybe OD might now regret not taking those A333's.

It'll be interesting to see how MH and OD respond.

  7. On a separate note, saw MAS A380 (9M-MNC) operated to Sydney :)

KUL-SYD-KUL a route with some much potential for MH. No QF or JQ to contend with. The QF groups seemingly abandonment of Malaysia is quite sad.

Speaking of freighters and I'm not sure how true this is but the A332F (9M-MUC?) that MAB disposed of didn't end up going to Royal Jordanian, but is in fact parked in desert storage.

  8. I use the Skyscanner app for all my travel bookings for my PER-PEN-PER trips 8-10 times per year.

This week I've started noticing some really odd Malindo search combinations such as:

PER-DPS-KL-PEN the first sector is on Batik and this bizarre one PER-KL-SIN-PEN.

To be fair to OD they are much cheaper than MH for travelling at peak holiday periods in early Jan.

Seems OD cant allign their operations at the moment. One of the major issues folks have leak is Etops rating and flightplan requires both captain and co-pilots to be rated and took classes for it however training and sim constraint slot in Jakarta means longer time to get FO's online for line training and OD already having issues with staff shortage. This is why OD needs its own 737ng sim instead of churning out quick cockpit crew but each batch with different classes taken. This has sometimes and most of the time cause pre planned flights to india and aussie to deviate slightly and remain closer to land thereby causing the flights block time taking longer. This brought on by the fact operation is unable to set different flying block time for certain regional sectors as u may have etops rated capts and fo crew to ply the straight flightplan today then having non etops rated crew being prepped for route on the next day. These combination cause a very long domino affect on certain aircraft pattern results the serious amount of retiming and rescheduling.

When OD151/152 and 155/156 is operated by a non EDTO/ETOPS aircraft flying over DPS then inland over Western Australia doesn't actually increase the flight time by anything significant.

  9. Air Berlin has seven A332's - the oldest D-ABXA (MSN 288) was first delivered to Swissair on 20 July 1999. The youngest, D-ABXG (MSN 802) was first delivered to Eurofly on 14 Dec 2006.

With a 6 year lease, these will almost certainly be the last A330 CEOs to leave the fleet - by then the replacements would have come in for the current A330 CEOs.

Just been doing some research...Airfleets shows AB as operating (now all stored) 17 A332-223's. The newest frame is shown as (MSN 1112) ex TAM D-ABXF only delivered to AB in 03/2017. It also shows 5 A332's which were leased from Aercap and these are.....MSN's 454, 469, 822, 968 and 1112. I'd imagine if these are in-fact the ones MH is leasing the later frames would be very capable of KUL-AKL-KUL without payload restrictions.

Pulled up alongside Cathay Dragons A333 B-HLA yesterday morning at KLIA, still looks immaculate...these RR powered age so gracefully compared to their P&W counterparts. She doesn't look anywhere near 23 years old. Then whilst on the domestic side 9M-MTA taxied past looking dull, dirty and neglected. MH aircraft don't have that gleam and shine of other carriers, maybe they are painted with a matte white.
