  1. So if Eagle express is going to lease the 2 remaining Alwafeer B744's -MPI and -MPJ how are they going to get them out of Jeddah as I was under the impression they were 'impounded'? Capt Nik H maybe??

Lease rates of a B744 are quite reasonable now and the MH ones would be a logical choice as they are already on the 9M registery and they seem to be in demand due to their low hours and cycles.

Although I'm having visions of Oasis I wish them all the best.

  2. Something interesting I noticed on Skyliner tonight...

Looks like Air Asia have picked up a white tail A320 that was originally destined for Air Berlin off the delivery line, c/n is 4917.

Believed to be in Singapore (Seletar) at the moment.

Doesn't say whether it's for AK, FD, QZ or PQ (Phillipines).

Might be one to watch out for as it's a -232 model not a -216.

  3. As has been previously stated on this forum the costs of leasing A345's would far outstrip D7's ability to operate as a LCC. They are in a position where they can just wait for the 'right' aircraft to become available. A343's aren't a bad aircraft still fairly modern and the lease rates will just contiune to fall. The issue that bugs me is if D7 source additional A340's they will end up with all different interiors unless they are also ex AC ones.

    -XXE was delivered on 22/12/09.

  4. Hi Folks,

Just got back from a Kuching visit and ont he KL-KCH sector I was fortunate to have 9M-AHV which i'm told at the time was less than a week into service.

Attached are some pics but my questions is how does a ETOPS A320 differ to an non ETOPS bird? The cabin appeared to be the same as the other AK A320's i've flown on (AFY, AFZ and AHE).

  5. Hi Folks,

Does anyone know when the next new batch of D7 A333's are due for delivery?

-XXC is c/n 1048, -XXD is c/n 1066 and -XXE is c/n 1075 so all these will roll off the production line quite closely after each other.

Also does anyone know what seats they are going to be delivered with? Same as -XXA and -XXB as I recall reading their was going to be some changes.

I've bitten the bullet and doing a PER-KL-PER trip with a side-trip to KCH in Novemeber so hoping for a better experience this time.

  6. Just go to show that MAS was a scapegoat in that Qantas issue....

Don't feel to bad LH teknik in Manila are the scapegoats according to the Australian media with the latest QF incident involving the JQ A333. It's seems easier to lay the blame at off-shore maintenance.

-MPB and -MPD are shown are 'to be cargo converted' according to an online database, although with recent world events this may have changed.

  7. The point I was trying to make is that with TPE coming on-line from 1 July and being advertised as serviced with brand new A333's I find it hard to see how XAA, XXA and XXB will be able to cover all this flying.

It would make much more sense to fly the A343 to PER between their STN rotations something that with the above timings is more than possible otherwise their will be a A343 on the ground at KL between 20:30+1 and 1535 the next day everyday!

I can't see them going to OOL and MEL would be a bit of a stretch, so PER has gotta be the most logical place.

-XXC isn't due until later this year.

  8. Flight D7 2008 departs KUL everyday at 15:35, arriving into STN at 22:00.

The return flight D7 2009 departs STN everyday at 23:05, arriving into KUL at 20:30+1.

Those timings are interesting....that gives it more than enough time to operate the PER flight arriving back into KL just after midday.

Does anybody know what -XAC is going to do until July 1 and with the amount of time it spent it SIN did it have the new interior fitted?

  9. Is their any chance that when D7 receive their 2nd A343 shortly that they'll also fly them to regional destinations as well as KUL-STN-KUL, or will that take up the entire daily flying of both aircraft?

I'm still trying to work out where the A333 capacity is going to come from to support the TPE flights..

  10. I did the D7 flight to Gold Coast (OOL) in March and on standard seats, it is not a very comfortable experience even though I travelled on their new A333s (XXB out and XXA returning to KUL). The seats are narrow and legroom is not quite enough for a medium haul flight. So if you are more than 1.75m tall, do consider paying extra for a better seat or XL seat. I am glad that their A343 is still using the old AC seats and legroom is good too, even for someone who is tall.

I am not sure why you had to pay more than MH for the domestic flight. I have compared fares a number of times and AK is usually cheaper unless you have upsized your luggage a fair bit. Even Firefly costs more than AK sometimes. I guess that on those particular dates, MH might have special fares left...

    Some interesting feedback.

I read the trip report by Ryanair!!! and he made reference to the seats although being comfortable, although narrow. Flying XL from PER-KUL. Odds on we'll have -XXA/B as -XAA doesn't seem to be a regular here and -XXC is c/n 1048 so it's still sometime away. Upsized to 20kgs on all sectors and meals.

PEN-KUL opted for the hotseat on this sector, so that might be why it worked out more than MH.

It'll be interesting to see what -XAB is like after it's been reconfigured and hearing people's opinions then.
