  1. Beautiful. Maybe asking too much but wonder if MAS will serve inflight meals or refreshments of the type and portion as they did way back then? Current travellers will know how much has changed over the years.

To make it even a more retro experience, there should be retro safety cards, crockery and cutlery etc. And FA uniforms!

Nevermind. Just take us back to the good old days of golden service :-)

  2. I was looking forward to enjoy the beach in Mukah when I first visited some years ago. What greeted me was brownish water and countless broken logs and other rubbish obviously due to logging activities. What a letdown. After visiting all of the major towns and cities in Sarawak, I have come to conclude there is not much to see or do in Sarawak. I returned only to visit friends and get some Bario and other exotic looking rice.

  3. No idea. Friend is with MAS so dont want to put him in difficulty divulging info.. you know much of the airline business is shrouded in secrecy :-) He did say it took some 2 hours for MAS to finally decide it is a no go, and pax were left in the dark all the while.

Maybe someone would like to catch her at 1515 as Mushrif informed. First daytime flight to London...

  4. OT but related to BKI and shopping. I once spoke to a senior staff of MAHB and he asked me what was my opinion of the old terminal pre-renovations and I said there were very few seats for transiting passengers to rest. He said it was deliberate as it forces people to be on their feet and do some shopping while waiting for the flight to depart! Wonder how it is now? Haven't been to BKI for some years now already.

  5. There are a few sellers of aircraft parts on ebay. Saw a 727 door and side panels complete with windows for sale some time back. I guess they have access to broken up airplanes at the aircraft graveyard. Also instruments of B52 but these are not for sale outside the US.

Sad to see mpf leaving. Last was on it as MH 007 PEN-KUL. If only it could speak and say goodbye to its home...

  6. They are more than mere pirates... So much so that many islands in Sabah has to station security personnel. Mabul has a PGA post and I saw the police patrolling the beach on boats complete with M16 rifles, and marinepolice in high powered boat along the way to Mabul. Nice place by the way...

  7. Just for a refresher, can anyone please list out the the aircraft types in service nowadays with doors that

    1) open 'outwards' (does this exist ?)

    2) plug type

    3) slide upwards/sideways

    4) any other tricks ?

    Many thanks in advance :)

Looking at pictures I believe upper deck 747 emergency exit swings upwards, but how it is unlatched and how one starts to open it I'm not sure. But I like the way plug type doors on Boeing open....pull a bit in and then push out.

    Assuring to note Sung's explanation.

But main doors too can be misused by crazy people like the case of Air Asia. Luckily it was still on the ground.

  8. I wonder if it can be opened as well. I understand the plug type like those on 737s non-ng cannot be opened due to cabin pressure as it has to be pulled inwards first. The NG series opens outwards, and many planes open outwards as well. Going back to the plug type, when below 10,000 feet when pressure is low, can one open it with some force? We dont want to be in a flight with crazy people or those with suicidal tendencies!
