  1. Have you had too much to drink? Why does MH need 720 more aircraft, just because the rest of the world will take in 800 new aircraft over two years?

If you read my post, it will tell you that the 800 aircraft order is "hard to believe", so don't go ahead telling me that I have had too much to drink. You are much like a journalist, only quoting me on what you can criticise and not looking at the whole picture. As well...I did refer to your post afterwards.

On the other hand, however unlikely, I think it would be fantastic is MAS can order 800 aircraft. $30bil is a deadset giveaway though that the order is around 80 aircraft.

Look, either way, I am happy that MAS is looking to expand their fleet. It has been long awaited. :good:

As I stated in other posts, I am a big fan of the 772 and I hope that their order will include some of these wonderful aircraft ^_^

  2. that depend on how many competitors MH take into account. if MH think they have 40 competitor and each competitor take 10 new aircraft, the number should be 400 plane this year and next year

It is 4-hundred this year and another 4-hundred next. Not forty.

Just add all the new planes that Qantas, SQ, AK, Jetstar, EK, EY, QR, CX, Tiger, Vietnam, Jet, Asiana, the myriad of Chinese airlines, etc will be getting over these two years.

    These are all MH's competitors.

And so i did read the above topics thank you very much.

I am of course replying on the assumption that what the original article said was true.

  3. Wow go MAS!~

Hope that all goes to plan for them. Makes me proud to be Malaysian :drinks:

Hard to believe though that they will order 800 new aircraft. It will be a huge logistical nightmare to phase out the current fleet.

Just think about it, MAS currently has about 80 aircraft, so they are planning to expand their fleet 10-fold.

That means that they will probably need to fully expand the KLIA, expand the maintenance facilities, recruit 10 times more staff, among other tasks needed for the expansion.

    AirAsia X gets flight clearance

    http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...mp;sec=business

It will fly to Gold Coast tomorrow after getting nod from Australia

    By B.K. SIDHU

PETALING JAYA: It is all systems go for AirAsia X’s inaugural flight to Gold Coast tomorrow now that the airline has obtained the much awaited final approval.

The nod to fly Down Under, including an international licence, came from the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) early yesterday, two days ahead of the maiden flight.

Getting the clearance from Australia had not been easy for AirAsia X as the country has very high safety and operational standards for airlines.

“We are ready to fly on Nov 2 as we have managed to get the international licence from CASA in record time, even though the processes were tedious,” said Azran Osman Rani, chief executive officer of AirAsia X.

“The load factor for our first flight is 96%, of which 90% are paying passengers,” he told StarBiz.

This is a major coup for AsiaAsia X since, in recent times, several airlines, including Viva Macau, did not get their licences on time.

AirAsia X is Malaysia’s only low-cost long-haul carrier that received the Air Operator’s Certification from the Department of Civil Aviation in early October.

While waiting for the approvals, AirAsia X had begun selling seats to Gold Coast and, thus far, had over 20,000 confirmed bookings worth RM15mil, Azran said.

AirAsia’s maiden flight to the Gold Coast will take off at 9.40pm from the low-cost carrier terminal and arrive at its destination at 7.45am on Saturday.

This, in itself, is a major milestone in Malaysia’s aviation as for the first time a low-cost carrier is going long haul. The landscape will surely change and passengers can only hope to pay cheaper fares as competition drives prices down, at least on the KL-Gold Coast sector for now.

AirAsia X will ply the route four times weekly using its newly-refurbished Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The aircraft can seat 315 passengers – 279 in the economy class and 36 in the business or “premium XL’’ class.

  5. For those who don't know - World Youth Day is a triennial pilgrimage of Catholic youths from all over the world, hosted in a different city each time. MH was the major sponsor for Australian pilgrims for the last World Youth Day - Germany in 2005.

I went to World Youth Day in Germany in 2005 with the Sydney school contingent, but too bad we had Gulf Air... Yea we departed Frankfurt at the same time as MH, which was depressing.

  6. About ten seconds after take off from runway 19R a lot of smoke and debris (the thrust reverser cowling lost pieces of fibre glass and insulation) comes out from engine #1. The 777 keeps on climbing and after what I heard on the scanner they didn't get any indications at first in cockpit, it was the tower that noticed them that they were trailing smoke. After a couple of minutes the pilots discovers problems with the engine and decides to return to Arlanda after dumping ~65 tons of fuel over the baltic sea.

Actually from what I heard, the person who took this photo called the authorities, who then informed the CT, who then contacted the pilots. Anyway back on topic, I agree that MH is having a problem with B777 engines. Isn't this now the 3rd incident in recent years?

In any case, the 777 is still my favourite A/C :drinks:

  7. Does MH fly 772 from Syd to KUL? i tot they use their 744

Yea am just looking it up right now...the 772 used to fly late nights (around 10:30pm) direct to KL. It looks like they have terminated it now...am really depressed...I loved the 772s!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Hi,

I love flying MAS's 772 from SYD-KUL. It always feels so cosy...i guess I just love the looks of the overhead luggage compartments...soo curvy... :D

Way to go for my first post ^_^

Seeing as how I can't find an "introduce yourself" section, I'll do it right here.

    My name is Eric.

I was born in KK, moved to KB for most of my childhood, the KK again for a year before moving to Sydney when I was about 8 years old.

Have been back to KK 2 twice ever since moving to Australia, most recently November last year. Both times of MH 772's.

Have been a big fan of Malaysia Airlines ever since I grew a fascination of aviation when I was around 10 years old.

Have always wanted to be a pilot, but I have terrible eyesight. Still wish to fly one day though...

Any other questions, just ask :)

Oh and am 19 years old now
