  1. The Rwy in AOR has been lengthen recently from the previuos 6500 ft to 8000ft,enough for a wide body aircraft to land safely there. It was my old alma mater,I did basic flying at AOR (PLTB 1/No.1 FTC) in 1989,since then theres been a lot of changes.Remembered one time,I think it was in 1990 or 1991 when the Sultan of Brunei brought his then brand new A340-8000 to AOR to attend some function given by the Sultan of Kedah, the Captain was a mat salleh, did 3 approaches before finally comming in to land, landed very positive and did max effort braking.AOR rwy then was only 6500 ft,recalled that the Captain was really shooked up by the experience, perhaps terpaksa cakap boleh to the Boss if not hewill find somebody else todo the job. Also remembered when the A4PTM came to AOR from KTN during one of those regular Ftr deployments, that time was done by No.9 Sqn (now disbanded). The sight of A4s taking off from AOR was awesome to say the least.I truly enjoyed my days during basic flying, but ofcourse do not count on the regular hasing done our seniors and Flt instructors .Again that is another story altogether.Just to share some nostalgic moments in my aviation career.

  2. han poor yean...hopefully she aint getting old from all the decompression and jetlag!
Even MH A330 does not have crew rest area.
Yupp, I dont like the A330s as it is very bumpy during turbulence unlike the B777 & the B747
Last year I flew on SQ flight from SIN to DXB for the AK ferry flight crew positioning, and it was a really bad bumpy ride,no difference from flying other aircraft.
According to DCA (and FAA) it is 1 crew per 50 passengers. If i want to go to Europe and looking for cheap fares, i will fly with either EK or EY.By the way, the seat pitch for Air Asia Rolls-Royce powered 333 is 29" pitch in 3-3-3  7 hours to DXB and then another 8 hours plus to STN ?? .
For flights to Europe, operations out of SHJ and not DXB.Dont want to fly on XFA,no prob, its a free world so you can make your own choice, leave it to others to judge themselves.

  3. Malaysia is never an ally of US,were are only friendly, but SIN is.Not all country is cleared to buy any advance military hardwares from US without US Congress approval, all military procurement is on a G to G basis and via FMS (Foreign Military Sales),so no hanky panky deals, besides LIMA is a small airshow in Asia as compared to AsianAerospace(HongKong) or Avalon aerospace show(Australia).Unlike European country defence procurement, there is always a political agenda attached to any weapons purchase from USA.

  4. To be precise, its 396 total pax,and its divided into 2 compartments, one for premium econ (kinda of pseudo bussiness class) and the other normal econ.Assigned seating and some sort of basic snack served as complimentary. If you want a better meal you can purchase onboard as well as IFE.In fact there are some european airlines who have configured theire A330 for 440 pax which is the max certified pax loading by Airbus for the A330.

  5. Just out of curiosity and to keep track of developments in Malaysian aviation, can anybody tell me who are the first female aircraft captains in MAS and Air Asia (if there are any)? When were they promoted?

None yet in AK but they do have Aircrfat Commanders in the RMAF.

  6. Any of you guys watched the USAF B732 incident at Dubrovnik,Croatia episode last Tuesday?

What a shocking fact. The B732 is not even equipped with CVR at all!

Wonder what the USAF high command were thinking...

The USAF used the B732 initially as Navigator trainner,so just like other military airplane does not come equiped with a CVR.Latere it was modified as atransport aircraft by removing the Nav trainner consoles in the cabin. Was assigned to USAFE as a intheatre transport.

  7. The RMAF has traditionaly provided airlift support for the Armed Forces ,just like the RAF Support Helicopter Force. The A109 used by the Army PUTD is for reccon and light attack/anti tank,Navy Fleet Air Arm Super Lynx for Maritime duties, but its high time the RMAF give up the responsibilty to provide tactical airlift, give that role to the Army, and concentrate on providing CSAR or Special ops support just like the USAF.The Mi-17 used by BOMBA was initially intended for the Air Force but was quietly rejected and forwarded to the RFS.IMHO I think the RMAF should use the NH90,like thr Australian Army and Navy, besides alot of their trainning and defence doctrine is based on the Australian Defence Forces.

  8. Slight topic detour,Bomba russian made choppers are put under military registration because it did not have FAA type certificate for civillian use.For Bomba Agusta 109 it is under civillian reg 9M-BOA 9M-BOB.I speculate some 2 ringgit company got the contract to fly and maintain the jet under 9M.

Like I posted earlier, the company was set up by KJ and his cohort goons, belongs to PMB,Pilots seconded from MH even though Pak Lah says that the Goverment only leases the plane as and when required, question arise, who owns PMB- Khazanah -MOF,sure looks fishy ,must be the 4th floor guys again.

  9. Almost all the VIP a/c are owned by JPM but operated on behalf by RMAF,nothing to do with Nuri crash.Fixed wing VIP operated by No.2 Sqn TUDM Subang and rotary VIP by No.10 Sqn TUDM Kuala Lumpur.Military or Goverment registered A/C require diplomatic permission for foreign overflight access.Safety regulations depend on goverment requirements instead of industry standards for the particular A/C.Military pilots are not allowed to fly civil registered A/C unless they have ATPL with the required ratings.

  10. While there are always a few "champions" in every airlines, the majority are still concerned with their life and limbs.

Thanks Capt Radzi, like everybody else, even though were an LCC that does not mean were not safety conscious, who wants risk everybodys life, when its just do the Go Around procedure and come do anot-her approach, and enjoy another day ,eh!

  11. TAM A320 copilot: 'Spoilers nothing' and 'decelerate, decelerate'

    Friday August 3, 2007

A Brazilian Congressional commission investigating last month's TAM A320 crash released a cockpit voice recorder transcript this week in which the pilots indicated they were unable to decelerate the aircraft owing to inoperable spoilers, while TAM said its ticket sales have plunged 30% since the accident.

The harrowing transcript reveals the copilot saying following touchdown at Sao Paulo Congonhas, "spoilers nothing" and "decelerate, decelerate," to which the captain responds, "it can't, it can't" and "oh my God, oh my God." The copilot then repeatedly yells, "turn, turn, turn" before the aircraft crashes into a building beyond the rain-slicked runway, killing all 187 passengers and crew aboard and 12 on the ground.

The crew noted shortly before landing that only one thrust reverser was activated. It previously had been revealed that one of the aircraft's thrust reversers had been deactivated days before the crash, a move that both the carrier and Airbus said was in accordance with maintenance procedures. The CGH control tower told the pilots on approach that the main runway was "wet and it is slippery."

TAM President Marco Antonio Bologna testified before the commission yesterday and said thrust reversers are "the last redundancy" in braking an aircraft. He warned that "any kind of conjecture [on the accident's cause] would be premature before the investigation has been wrapped up." He noted that TAM's sales have been hurt badly by the accident, with ticket purchases down significantly.

The crashed airplane was in perfect condition except for the MEL on one of the reversers, this item was briefed by the PF,but on landing, one thrust lever was set to full reverse while the other was set in CLB position and was left until impact, because of the assymmetric thrust position, the spoilers as well as the autobrake wont work, the PNF should have reminded to PF to retard both thrust levers to flt idle than full reverse on both thrust levers as recommended by Airbus, because of that action cause the airplane to slow down late, aircrfat was in landing config at finals and stabilized (IAS 145kt),touched down in landing zone but no spoiler and autobrake activation, manual brake was initiated 11 secs after touchdown.sorry i nfo is restricted from Airbus.

  12. a bit OT: why is AK not operating to SGN and flying to HAN only ?

Is this for political reasons (set by Malaysia), as LCC's from SIN are operating to SGN, so, I guess the Vietnamese won't mind...

Vietnamese goverment objection,to save AirVietnam from AK onslaught.Flight to HAN are almost always full now, even with flights 2 times a day.
