  1. The thing is that we don't service the enough routes that carry most of these people who tend to spread the word around. The people who would vote for the Skytrax or other survey, who are they? Maybe a lot of Americans, British, French, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong.

     

    The image of SQ is somewhat elevated in UK and US just because SQ offers more flights, so more people have gotten the chance to flown with them. Just imagine, 2x daily from JFK and 3x daily from LAX, that's a lot of passenger SQ have carried. Don't even talk about MH vs SQ when it comes to serving London airports.

     

    I'm sure these people would change their mind if they ever get the chance to fly MH.


  2. Btw, this thread is a classic example of comparing apple to apple (not orange!). Both airlines are in the same class of service.

     

    Some people praise SQ because that's pretty much the only "premium" airlines they have flown to, judging from how many destinations SQ flies to. For example, SQ flies more American from its 3 US airports it serves ie: LAX, ORD and JFK with 1x or 2x daily service. Less Americans have travelled on MH because of our less frequency to the US.

     

    If we are on the same frequency as SQ, I'm sure we'll have more positive comments from them.


  3. From accounting perspective, adding a "subsidiary" under Malaysia Airlines System Bhd will not help because the losses reported by the subsidiary will also accrue to the parent company, ie: MAS Bhd.

     

    One more important thing: ALL MH's domestic operation's profit/loss now is being absorbed by Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd, which is a different company. So MH's RM200+million loss in the recent quarter is purely from its international operation!

    Hmm, I thought it was The Golden Chersonese? Also Suvarnabhumi means The Land of Cobra if I read the news report correctly.

     

    But note how "bhumi" and "bumi" sounds very similar in their and our language!

    That's not really Minangkabau lah. That design is very much the Malay-Terengganu type of architecture. Very similar to the design of beautiful Terengganu resorts like The Aryani or Laguna Redang ResortLaguna Redang. Raja Bahrin must have something to do with TGG's proposed airport design.

     

    But then, last time I was in TGG, there was no sign of any construction yet. I bet it'll take a few years before things are moving.

    Gas Pipeline Network

    Interest in two major high pressure gas transmission pipelines in Argentina, Transportadora de Gas Del Norte S.A. (TGN) and Transportadora de Gas Del Mercosur S.A. (TGM).

     

    Opps, I think Petronas still has the business. Maybe the one I read was about Petronas reducing the stakes only. The Argentina business is still listed in Petronas corporate website.

The EZE route is being serviced because of a bilateral agreement between the Malaysian Govt..and the Argentiniant Govt....theres something they are giving us which Malaysia is benefiting from..the last i heard it..it was something to do with oil...and thts why..one of the clauses included..MH has to have a flight there....its not too bad anyway...the flight isnt too empty..it has quite a load..

    Actually Petronas already disposed its pipeline business in Argentina. As far as I know lah. So maybe it's not really oil-and-gas business travel kinda thing. Probably just a regular trade mission and business meetings between the two countries.

     


  9. But this guy seems to have experience turning companies around. His last stint was at Shell chemical company (or something), in a very touch petrochemical business.

     

    He could bring his expertise to similarly turn things around at MAS.

     

    He is different compared to previous *cronies* who took over when things are good.


  10. The cost structure is important. People in the US do not mind paying for a direct point-to-point flight for $200 roundtrip, esp on leisure routes to MIA, MCO, etc.

     

    But in Malaysia, with quite a tiny population, how many would fly direct to PEN/LKW for RM200? I don't think Jetblue can offer lower prices than AirAsia esp with such full-service stuff being offerred.


  11. With AF, it's different cook; MAS wants to increase their frequencies already for years, which is opposed by the French (thru AF), making the relationship quite sour; guess, that's why AF prefers to make SIN their Asia hub...

    I can't put my finger on this one.

     

    AF doesn't even fly to KUL. And MH is offering KUL-CDG-KUL almost daily. Since AF decides to "concentrate" on SIN, why not letting MH mount more flights into CDG from KUL, and let AF worry about fighting with SQ on SIN-CDG-SIN.
