  1. This new offshore helicopter operator has been operating a leased Sikorsky S-76C (PK-FUD) out of BKI since January 2014 and they now have S-76C 9M-SBO.

Anyone managed to photograph either of these two S-76s and is PK-FUD still operated by Sazma Aviation?

Sazma Aviation is a JV between Sabah Air and Uzma Teras and seem to have a contract from Petronas.

  2.

Is that SN is real? I thought that 9M-MKZ belongs to MAS A330-300,

9M-MKZ was a MAS A330 but it was returned to ILFC in April 1999. Cessna 208B Caravan 9M-MKZ I think has just been registered earlier this year - the earliest sighting I have was back in April but maybe someone here can provide better information.

Melaka based airlines seem to come around every two years - Heritage Air 2010, Melaka Air 2012 and now in 2014 Rayani Air.

  3. Royal New Zealand Air Force's first T-6 Texan II is expected to be delivered in August 2014. It might drop into KCH on the way to New Zealand...

That's one long delivery flight. I wonder how many days that is going to take and how many flying hours.

  4.

Watch this show, aired last night in the UK.

It explains Inmarsat's sorcery, with the hotspot at 28 degrees South along the Indian Ocean arc.

It also reveals that Inmarsat data led to the exposure of RMAF radar non-action in this debacle -- the White House took the lead to prod the Malaysian govt to act on Inmarsat's information.

    ===

It is worth watching as it explains in layman terms how the Inmarsat data led the search south and the fact that the most likely area where the aircraft came down based on the Inmarsat data has still to be searched.

The incompetence of the Malaysian Government and the failures of the Air Force are there for every one to see, but sadly for the relatives and friends of those onboard no one will ever take any responsibility for their failures.

  5. Never knew there was a defunct 737 in Melaka and for 2 years i did not went in to see until this afternoon

Thanks for posting the pictures. I think it arrived in very early 2011.

Also a Westland Wasp preserved in the Muzium Maritim, Twin Pioneer at the Muzium Pengangkutan and I heard they had also acquired a Northrop F-5 from USM. Confirmation and a photo of the later would be good.

  6. Non-stop TPE-BKI? It is about 3:30 on B738 at about M 0.78. Wonder how long it will take on the DHC-6 and the route taken.

TPE-BKI is just under 1200 nm. Maximum zero payload range is quoted as 799 nm, so definately ferry tank/s required with at least 600 kg of extra fuel plus reserves. For an earlier delivery the TPE-BKI leg is quoted as taking just over 8 hours.

The full route was as follows:

    YYJ-ANC 1175 nm 10th May

    ANC-DYR 899 nm 18th May

    DYR-GDX 803 nm 26th May

    GDX-KHV 871 nm 27th May

    KHV-GMP 754 nm 28th May

    GMP-TPE 799 nm 29th May

    TPE-BKI 1182 nm 1st June

    Total: 6483 nm

  7. From www.youwings.com

"As an operator of Sriwijaya Air, the third largest airline in Indonesia, YOU Wings will be taking on the operations of the Penang – Medan route currently flying daily flights.

YOU Wings will also be expanding to include Ipoh once runway maintenance is complete, Terengganu, Dhaka, Shenzhen and Guangzhou in the near future with Medan serving as our second base.

Our aim is for our flight frequency to be increased to daily flights and our international destinations to be expanded to include Thailand, Singapore, China, Macau, Japan and Australia.

When our new destinations are launched, customers will be able to buy tickets from our travel agent partners with the option of fully-inclusive tailored packages or online through our website.

With new destinations developing YOU Wings is your access to the world!"

Well you can't deny they are ambitious, but I don't see Ipoh-Terengganu as a viable route with a B737. The time when there are daily flights from Ipoh to Australia I think will be a long time coming!

  8. Airline changes name as part of rebranding exercise

FLYING Fox Airways has changed its name to You Wings after a company restructuring.

Its chief executive officer Daniel Lee said new partners and investors had been brought in as a means of rebranding itself as well as to create a new image for its customers.

“Hopefully, the runway problem at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport can be resolved by the year end and You Wings will be able to commence its Ipoh-Medan flights,” Lee said during a familiarisation dinner for travel agents from Medan, Indonesia, in Ipoh last Saturday.

It was reported last December that the Civil Aviation Department (DCA) had disallowed Flying Fox Airways from landing its Boeing 737-400 planes at the airport in Ipoh after sinkholes were found on the runway.

This came after the airport had undergone refurbishment works costing about RM37.4mil between April 2011 and November 2012, which included the extension of the 1,789m runway by another 200m to accommodate larger aircraft.

In the meantime, Lee said You Wings was in discussion with bus companies to provide shuttle services between Ipoh and Penang for those taking flights operated by its partner airline, Sriwijaya Air.

The Indonesian airline is currently offering daily flights between Penang and Medan.

“Our mission is to bring in more tourists and to offer a hassle-free way for our customers to travel in and out of Malaysia,” said Lee.

State Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohd Radzi, who was also present, said the state government was working on a solution while working on developing strategic ways to complete the runway as soon as possible.

“We don’t want the problem to be a hindrance to the industry players when promoting Perak,” she said.
