  1. A tweet from the Telegraph reporter in Indonesia "Some truly horrific photos of victims at #QZ8051 crash site now being broadcast on Indonesian TV. 6 victims confirmed found."

Certainly horrific for the family and friends of all those lost.

It is sad that news channels feel the need to broadcast this type of material. Their financial greed is greater than their compassion.

  2. Being effectively a commercial single engine turboprop operation, is this operation restricted to day VFR or does the MY DCA have provision for "Approved Single Engine Turbine Powered Aeroplane" (ASETPA) where a turbo single can operated IFR and NVFR ops subject to fulfilling a list of criteria in their CAR?

I wondered about this if they were using a Cessna 208, but maybe they are using a Cessna twin.

  5. This is the link for Australian data, includes other airlines.. looks like the loads are unfortunately not too good for MAS :( (I posted this under the wrong header)

    http://www.bitre.gov.au/publications/ongoing/international_airline_activity-monthly_publications.aspx

For sure not good, 55.7%/58.1% load factors on inbound/outbound flights to Australia is deep in loss making territory!

  7. Lion Group becomes ATR’s largest customer

Lion Group top-up its ATR 72-600 orderbook to reach historic 100 firm orders

ATR and Indonesia’s Lion Group have today signed a US$ 1 Billion purchase agreement for 40 additional ATR 72-600s, hiking the firm order total for the newest generation ATR turboprops to 100 aircraft. Today’s signature marks a milestone in ATR’s history, as Lion Group becomes ATR’s largest customer ever. This new contract has been inked by Mr.Rusdi Kirana, Chairman of the Lion Group and Patrick de Castelbajac, Chief Executive Officer of ATR, on the occasion of a special ceremony held in Rome, witnessed by Mr.Matteo Renzi, Italy’s Prime Minister.

There are currently three subsidiary airlines in the Lion Group operating ATRs: Wings Air with a fleet of 32 ATR aircraft operating in Indonesia; Malindo Air with a fleet of 10 ATRs operating in Malaysia; and Thai Lion Air, so far with 1 ATR in operation in Thailand. These additional 40 ATR 72-600s will be used to meet the growing demand forecast over the next five years both within the Group’s existing operators’ networks and to develop other opportunities for ATR operations throughout Asia and developing markets worldwide. Deliveries of the aircraft signed today will start in 2017 and run into 2019.

Rusdi Kirana, Chairman of the Lion Group, declared: “These modern and fuel-efficient aircraft will meet the future growth of the Lion Group airlines. The ATR 72-600 aircraft enable us to achieve a brilliant economic performance”. He added: “The ATR-600 aircraft are very competitive, as they enable us to ensure a high frequency service. With these new generation airplanes in our fleet, the Lion Group will continue to contribute to the economic development in Indonesia, Malaysia and Asia, including remote regions as well as tourist driven markets such as Bali, Java, Kalimantan (Borneo) and Sumatra”.

“Lion Air has become our largest customer among airlines, and has been successfully operating ATR 72s for five years. We are honored to receive this outstanding new order, which is an historical ATR milestone, and we thank the Lion Group for their continued strong commitment to our profitable and eco-efficient aircraft. The ATR-600 series feature the highest level of operational performance, while offering its passengers the highest standards of comfort and service. We look forward to further strengthening our partnership with the Lion Group”.” declared ATR’s Chief Executive Officer, Patrick de Castelbajac. He added: “We also thank the strong financing support provided by SACE, Italy’s Credit Export Agency, which has considerably contributed to develop and consolidate such a fruitful partnership”.

The Asia Pacific region accounts for nearly 40 percent of the sales of the ATR -600 series aircraft. Today, more than 300 ATR aircraft are operated by Asia-Pacific carriers, while there are some other 100 on order.

  8. With 43 new airliners delivered to Malaysia so far this year I did a quick count of how many passenger airliners now make up the fleet and arrived at a figure of 252 (doesn't include cargo aircraft).

    AirAsia 81 x A320

    AirAsia X 19 x A330 2 x A340

    Berjaya 2 x ATR72 2 x DHC7

    Firefly 16 x ATR72

    Malaysia Airlines 15 x A330 6 x A380 57 x B737 1 x B747 13 x B777

    Malindo 11 x ATR72 7 x B737

    MASwings 14 x ATR72 7 x DHC6

10 years ago the fllet total was 112

    AIrAsia with just 7 x B737 while Malaysia Airlines had 99 aircraft comprising 5 x DHC6 10 x F50 12 x A330 39 x B737 18 x B747 15 x B777

    How times have changed!

  10. SZB to TGG on Malindo RM49 and back on Firefly RM59 are my bargain fares. Kerteh is slightly more convenient that TGG but all seat on every flight to and from Kerteh are RM358! Obviously cashing in on business travellers.

Also got LHR-AUH-KUL-AUH-LHR for £505/RM2600 Promo offer on Etihad a couple of week back. Turkish were also offering some good fares but not so good timings as Etihad.
