Batik motif on the tail is okay, but the typeface need to go...uninspiring and look old compared to the B788!
Except that they are not going ahead with the 788 purchase anymore...

United Continental Holdings Inc. issued an updated policy to ensure crew traveling on its aircraft are booked at least 60 minutes prior to departure, according to a United spokeswoman.
Laterally last minute crew booking has priority over boarded pax is inviting trouble.
Good move! Every other airlines should follow suit.... but then again... which other airline would force their pax in that manner?

Chinese mainland airlines ex hkg promotional fare to Europe and North America could be very cheap. Not a surprise CX profit is depressed.
Most mainland Chinese prefer to fly direct these days as mainland airlines are reaching out for more destinations. Either that they will fly Korean Air or Asiana, or even ANA and JAL.
Many of them are becoming more and more uncomfortable of the unnecessary cocky attitudes of Hong Kongers too, so they are staying away.
Many Hong Kongers are flying Chinese airlines too as the fares are sometimes unbeatable. Return fare to US starts from HKD 3600 including tax even though if it means laying over at Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai for a day or so. Return fare offered by China Eastern or Shanghai Airlines to Japan have been pretty unbeatable too compared to CX's fare.
I, for one, prefers not to fly with CX/ KA unless it is business trips. For personal trips, I always opt for airlines other than CX/KA.

Wake turbulence while at holding pattern just outside of HKG/ VHHH, another aircraft was flying too close above.
http://www.airlineratings.com/news/1167/qantas-747-was-struck-by-wake-turbulence-
Aircraft involved in the incident was VH-OEF "Sydney", a GE powered Boeing 747-400ER, in One World livery, which I caught last year too from MEL to HKG as QF29.

How could they have the right when passengers already boarded and seated and about to take off then only to be "randomly" selected and removed? And this is sensitive and catchy, right? People might ask again.. what right? with violence?
Airlines and authorities do have the rights to remove people from flights. You would have agreed to it too on the conditions of carriage too.

I've always disliked UA and haven't flown with them for 7 years now because of poor customer service and rude cabin crew (even in International First Class!). It was my experience flying on UA in F between SYD and SFO 7 years ago that helped me to decide never to fly with them again. I wasn't treated badly but I saw how the flight attendants treated some of the other F passengers and it was just unbelievable!
Yep, Delta is definitely better and consist of more interesting fleet types than UA, even if it means they will Deliver Every Luggage To Atlanta (DELTA).
It is funny that in China, people think this is a racist case and now mainland Chinese are boycotting UA... how stupid! Even in HK... the news headlines read "Chinese American was dragged off from the plane by force - why did they pick a Chinese person?". Many in this part of Asia are quick to judge this case to be racial discrimination and are often reminded how racist western countries can be towards Chinese.............

Long overdue....he was one of the reason behind CX's continuous decline.
Wonder if he will remained at CX.
I watched one of his speech and his English was the thick Hong Kong (high tone and low tone fluctuating) accent, sometimes very hard to understand. I fell asleep half way through his speech lol
-
I thought they pick people on the fare they paid... for example... heavily discounted economy class fare, rather than randomly select people and bump them off.
I certainly would not be happy to be bumped off the plane if I am paying higher grade Economy class fare if I know there are passengers who paid cheaper fare than I did.
The victim in this case is an East Asian looking person, could have been Chinese, Mongolian, Korean or Japanese. That could easily escalate or be sensationalised to be another case of racial discrimination....
very violent scene indeed, was there no other alternatives than resorting to violent? i guess we should all thank Trump for this manic behavior which is getting rampant in the US.
I have been to the US just last month... and I don't feel it to be any different from my previous trip years ago. So... it could be media spin-doctoring... or demonising Trump.

Malaysian girls are really irresistible
Depends on the perspective, doesn't it? Malaysian girls are ho**y for some.

They learned it hard way; Only 80 A318s were built, with Avianca Group is the biggest operator, 25 A318s (Avianca Brazil-15 and Avianca Colombia-10).
Those BA has a handful of them for operating into LCY London City Airport? IIRC... Qatar has some A318 for pure business class config to Europe?
-
Will there be A318neo?
-
Very cool photos there Francis!! and Chaity, of course!
-
Despite more and more planes coming on board, yet after a barely 9.5 months; they still decided to chop off the reintroduced KUL-MYY-KUL services.
Economics!?
-
I remembered in the 90s TG used 737-400 for the BKK-BKI route?
-
Why?
Laws of probability shows that there is no way MAB will be going for an 8 across on the 787 in Y...
A330s are 8 abreast and 787 has 9 abreast in standard format, IIRC!
I am saying I would prefer MH to get the B787!

I made a quick transit at ICN on both ways during my tecent trip to the US two weeks ago, it seems that Incheon Airport will open a new terminal and a satellite terminal (called Terminal 2) very soon. Construction is almost finished and looked to be ready by end of the year.
Current terminal will be renamed as Terminal 1. ICN already has three active runways. They are building runway 4 to the west and another runway, runway 5, to the east of the cargo terminal will be built and become a dedicated runway for freighters.

I think Sabah-Labuan bridge is more pressing matter than LCCT.
I recently talked with a relative who works at one of the offshore banks in Labuan where only few employees work there.
He was forced to call it sick on Monday because it is difficult to book a spot for his car (he bring along his family to mainland) on the Labuan-Menumbok ferry on weekend.
For late afternoon schedule on Sunday, that would mean he has to drive from KK early morning to reach Menumbok.
That is despite his boss discouraged so many staff to take extra days off at the same time to minimise disruption to the the bank's operation.
A bridge would have eliminate those issues.
The population vs. cost simply do not justify the viability of a bridge.
Labuan is not Penang, the latter has a pretty important IT industry and substantial population size.
On top of that, Malaysia is not China, where massive infrastructure projects are used to justify GDP....

Thanks for the analysis. Wonder what's the length they are looking at for the SDK runway extension. Emirates A380 has even landed in Glasgow with the runway length of 8720ft, but the turning pan at SDK currently is definitely too tight for many bigger aircraft
Anyway here are some collections of the widebodies at SDK as mentioned:

cheer
I believe the 757-200 landed in SDK is not a surprise. The 757 has a pair of powerful engines which is prefect for short runways. The 757 has indeed landed at the previous TWU airport which I believe the runway was 5500 ft, it was the Boeing 757-200 demonstrator (N757A).

Brunei's entourage b762, Mytravel A330-200(with over 400 person onboard) did landed in SDK before and recently a b752 Thomson luxury charter.
Talking about SDK it is a captains sector for 738 and A320 operators due to runway condition(it aint the smoothest leveled runway in borneo) and length. Malindo's B737-900ER and potential A321s would not be able to take off on that runway with 4-5hour(this may include sectors such as SDK-KUL where diversion and holding fuel load is applied as well) worth of flight time payload unless thrust and flaps modification are done which are not cost conservative to some airlines. Same issue with Melaka's white elephant Batu Berendam when China Southern's A320 had a hard time that they wanted to downgage to A319s on some flights to be extra safe. In fact larger aircrafts like A330/B772 would use less runway with the same 4-5hour payload and passengers carried as the 739 and a321 due to significant more powerful and larger engines equipped. Perhaps this runway extension is to accommodate more stretched narrowbody aircrafts from any 4-6 hour sectors instead of what the press reported as for widebody.
The best runway length for b738/a320 to do 6 hour sector would be approx 8000feet+ if it were to be the B737-900ER etc it would need nearly 9800feet based on Maxed take off weight. Not really a good margin on hot day operation. Sandakan runway length is only 7000feet hence a lot of restriction.
Thanks Jahur. Was only joking about the Brunei's entourage.
By the way, fantastic analysis. I would imagine TWU's airport at the current stage is not long enough too. I remembered our 737-800 from KUL took nearly the entire length of the runway to come to a stop (8,809 ft).

The "subsidiary" of Malaysian Airline System Berhad? What might that be? Firefly or MASWings?
Thought it has been renamed to Malaysia Airlines Bernard?
