  1. AK charges convenience fee the moment ticket is purchased using credit card. Later (nearer to travel date), if I add stuff like checked baggage, meal, seat, etc. will that attract another convenience fee if i pay using credit card again?

[i think I found the answer at FAQ??]

    Answer :

A convenience fee is charged when payment is made through credit, debit or charge cards. The fee is charged per guest for each way. Any changes or addition to existing booking is excluded from the Convenience Fee.

Also, if I choose 20kg checked baggage, is that limited to 1pc 20kg? or can be 2-3pcs that totals up to 20kg?

  2. Tell me about it! It is so annoying. Everybody needs a visa to get into China, so no big deal there. With USA, you just need to get the visa once and it should last up to 10 years. It's only painful during the application process. But Japan...I have to get a visa every time! I don't understand why it has to be this way when it was easier previously. I have to provide all sorts of banking details, financial statements, previous visits, etc. and all I get is a 2-week visa (or longer if I'm staying longer, of course). Australian passport holders don't need a visa and they automatically get a 3-month one upon entry!

there is "multiple entry visa" for japan, but not sure whether it is applicable for "Holiday/Transit" category. no harm calling embassy to ask if u r a frequent visitor. :drinks:

  3. They should'd done it long time ago...airlines in far east asia such as EVA, ANA did this since Nov 2008 with as much as 30% pay cuts from manager levels upward to CEO.

Also, they introduced more drastic measures such as compulsory 1 day unpaid leave per week, froze hiring, cut non-essential benefits such as dental, laundry allowance, etc.

Cost-saving efforts continued to operational aspects too..such as reducing a/c overall weight to save on aviation fuel costs. JAL reduced spoon size, replaced plastic tray covers for cling film, no more inflight magazine for each seat, removed personal AVOD from each seats.

if remove personal avods, then have to stick up at big LCD screen for all to view :yahoo:

  4. why mas dont use conveyor belt to load/unload checked-in baggage onto the 737's? at least i didnt see them using it at KCH. same time, Jetstar taxi beside it uses conveyor belt to load/unload checked-in baggage.

i thought using conveyor belt to load/unload checked-in baggage would mean less "stress and strength" required from the workers doing the load/unload - and potentially less "handling accidents" resulting in $$ spend to repair/replace mis-handled baggage?

  5. its the security check for mastercard/visa that the banks employ. Did you use a RHB credit card?

it is not rhb card. guess what, i chk today, the booking did not go thru even though the bank called me last nite to confirm the transaction... duh.

so, called mas hotline, press 1 and 8 for internet booking. was told that my booking was cancelled (reason - bank transaction did not go thru?) the call centre agent rebooked same flight for me, and was advised that the ticket info will be email to me in 3 days (yes, 3 hari - not 3 minit)... ok lor - wait for 3 days lor. :drinks:

  6. Well, anyone planning to go LIMA 2009?

    1-5 December 2009.

    Or Singapore Airshow?

    2--7 Feb 2010

Singapore Airshow - which day open to public? 6-7 Feb weekend - normally the last few days, right?

and what's the ticket price for last time?

  7. need a return ticket from kch to ict (going 27-jun, and return in 2 months). been searching around and seems like openjet.com has the best offer from all those displayed in www.wego.com.

anyone use openjet.com to purchase tickets? comments (or alternative routes) welcome..

  8. For a RETURN ticket on Economy Class, one only need to debit:

17,500 miles - From KUL to XMN, CAN, KMG, BOM, HYD, BLR and MAA

22,500 miles - From KUL to SYD, MEL and DEL

30,000 miles - From KUL to LHR, CDG, FRA and FCO

45,000 miles - From KUL to EWR and LAX

generous indeed (for this round).. but every time i call, seems like the answer is standard "no more seats for redemption tickets" .... and i wonder how many seats is allocated for redemption ticket? of cos, different route may have different number of seats allocated ...

  9. Unless luggage is loaded into LD3, luggage is exposed to weather. Frequent travellers normally purchase hard case luggage even for carry-on. Apart from weather, pilferage on soft case is easy.

    :drinks:

agreed. hard case luggage is more "water proof". however water can still seep thru the gaps. i normally pack my clothes in a plastic bag before putting them into luggage.

i m converting to hard case luggage, and let go of those 2-wheel soft case luggages one by one, after they experience the last of normal handling of checked-in luggages :)

just got a 4-wheeled 28" hard case luggage recently, after used up all the "spare bags" as we over-shopped during that trip :)
