  1. is ok mh..try again next year..no bad only drop to 2nd place :D :D not bad that..good job mh :good:

Well.. isn't this why MH has problems retaining its reputation as 5 stars airlines? MH saving grace at the moment is the crew and for them to drop out from number 1 is not okay. The world keeps spinning and the competition keeps rolling in, "Tak apa" kind of attitude doesn't have place if MH wants to compete with the world. It's a wake up call and MH definitely didn't do a good job.

of course SQ still keep they title airlines of the year 2008 because of A380.without A380 they loose the title long time ago ::8P::

I'm sorry to say, but this comment has no factual support. SIA has won many awards and accolades for a long time, way before A380 even exist. Their legendary service has dated back to when they still have Boeing 707 and 747-200. I start to wonder if you have even ride on SQ...

Some of the awards that SQ won is listed here: http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/cont...chievements.jsp

  2. I've heard from Singaporeans, there are quite a few resort, golf courses and brothels, it's a place of entertainment for Singaporeans and Johoreans. Be prepared to pay in sing dollars.

Ermmm.. are you sure that's Batam? I thought the ones with resorts and golf courses are Bintan. Batam is an industrial island, can be very dirty. Many Singaporeans go there to do business or have their factories located over there.

  3. I never been to Changi before, but what's so special about it? please describe.

I think, you should just do a daytrip to SIN to check out the airport coz it is a destination in itself. For me, it's a tourist attractions just like Sentosa or Jurong bird park :p. Singaporeans go to Changi like they go to their local shopping malls, the shops are very attractive and there are a lot of food choices and restaurants.

Anyway, at least the airports in the list deserve the awards. They are simply excellent.

  4. Is this the latest Qantas engineer's tactic?

Plane had faults despite overhaul - The Age

A QANTAS aircraft just back from a maintenance overhaul in Malaysia had a string of faults including problems with its navigation systems and rudder.

A flight attendant also received two electric shocks in the galley of the 737, which is used on domestic routes, documents obtained by The Age show.

    ...

Among the other faults with the 737 and included in a technical log of defects obtained by The Age were:

■Movement of the pilot rudder pedals was restricted due to poor installation of the cockpit panels.

    ■ The captain's window had been scratched; a check said it looked as if it had been cleaned with "Scotch-Brite".

    ■ Cooling ducts that controlled computer temperatures were not working properly, likely causing the captain's primary instrument display and indication display screens to black out intermittently.

    ■ Equipment that allowed the air crew to report back to Qantas and vice versa stopped working.

    ■ The aircraft had "throttle stagger", which sources said meant that instead of being able to use autopilot the pilots had to adjust the power of the plane constantly.

Other faults included a "squeal" or leak in the captain's side window and a small turbine engine at the rear of the plane that was over-spinning.

  5. Frankly, I really don't see that happening at all. There has been too much bad blood between QF and SQ for them to even sit down at the same table . . . let alone talk about a merger.

Personally, I do not wish to see SQ come anywhere close to any form of merger with Qantas. There is too big a gap in corporate culture, service culture and many other things. A merger between Qantas and a southeast Asian airline is good for QF, but given SQ's comprehensive coverage of Australia's key cities, I don't see it adding value to SQ. Worst still if it imports the union woes.

It would be interesting to see which are the airlines that come out of the current challenges in a healthy state . . . Lufthansa is definitely one of them.

    KC Sim

I have to agree with you.. Singapore does have lots of stake in many Australian companies, eg. Optus, Australand, etc. However, marriage between SQ and QF is one that never going to happen, at least not in my lifetime.

  6. Apparently, the route is/was making money... it's just that with the present market conditions, the airline has to optmise the use of its fleets to SUSTAIN present level yields or minimise the downturn affect on the airline. This is a great time for QF to transfer a lot of its routes onto JQ - a plan that has been the undertone of the Qantas group for some time now - and thereby the requirement for aircraft to fill in potential higher yielding destinations. They don't have a very big fleet and with the 787 delay, there is little respite for the time being.. I agree though that in due time and once this oil makret speculation is over, there will again be JQ flights from Australia to Malaysia - competing with the likes of AirAsiaX.

Well if it does make money, the least thing they can do is changing the equipment to A320 like they do with SGN. They may make money, but the problem is how much? It may just simply like what others said, the yield simply lower than other destinations.

  7. It's reported here as well...

"The Australian pilots union has criticised plans by the Qantas group to use foreign pilots on its low-cost airline Jetstar, claiming there is no shortage of Australian captains and it would be safer to use them."

"While Mr Somerville did not directly say that the strategy would compromise passenger safety, he said he would "bet that the pilots brought in from the UK are not from British Airways, put it that way"."

    Source: http://www.theage.com.au/news/news/jetstar...1653891010.html

The media and unions have blown out this issue out of proportion by saying it less safe to use foreign pilots.

  8. I believe this is part of the union tactics to gain attention. Qantas have shifted some of their maintenance overseas and many are unhappy with this decision. Hence, they are trying to discredit the overseas maintenance companies.

I do have sympathy over potential job losses in Australia, however this kind of strategy is absolutely digusting. It's also like saying that Asian airlines are unsafe. I find that the Australian media is often very biased, love to exaggerate the issue, and have very insular view.

  9. No wonder YTL is keen to have express train link to SIN. I wonder, if the bus and plane travelers to SIN also have to pay for extra tax to have the "convenience" of this link in the future.

This is just simply ridiculous.. LCCT is not even served by ERL, why should AK passengers pay for it?

Let say you transfer for different flights in LCCT or KLIA, why do we have to pay for service we don't use?

What makes me even more upset is this deal was not even disclosed to the public.

If it is not viable, then it's time for the operator to find more ways to make money.

  10. welcome to IJ&co's MALAYSIAN HOSPITALITY. screw everyone and try to save a few bucks. i wonder what else he is prepared to do just to remain profitable for the next few years. i hope its not true cos RM7 per hour will just put people off.

sorry...had to give an opinion as i haven't been much of a keyboard warrior lately due to my busy job.

I would call that MH = MALAYSIAN HOSTILITY... Anyway, with only hourly salary, they probably will be struggling badly if they are stationed in places like LHR, AMS, ARN, NRT or EWR. I just hope this rumor will stay as rumor.

  11. Reminds me of KUL's first day of operation. I think this is normal. Almost all major airports faced problem on their opening day. KUL, BKK, SIN T3 and now LHR T5.

Did SIN T3 even have problems during their opening day? The problem with LHR is they knew that they have teething problem, yet they didn't try to fix it. It is definitely not normal when you have to cancel 34 flights in one day. KUL did have problem, but that was a decade ago. Not to mention this is a developed country we are talking about. This is not a 3rd world country, where lack of infrastructure and proper management can be forgiven.

  12. haven't had time to discuss this snack box thing...new job is too tiring. Agree with BC...MAS is a 'pioneer' but i doubt quality airlines like EK, SQ and TG will follow suit. maybe garuda and pr

GA already has snack box on their short haul domestic flights and it has been there for as long as I can remember. However, I haven't seen them implement it on their international flights.

  13. You're oversimplifying here. You're not considering the rise in fuel and of course the inflation

That is a bullcrap.. I have been buying ticket to the same destination for over 8 years with SQ. Ticket price stays the same (maybe even lower), while the fuel surcharge and taxes has increase by double, maybe more. However, I don't see any decrease in terms of service with SQ. I still have a great entertainment options and hot meals. MH on the other hand, has replaced the refreshment on the long haul sector with cold hard sandwich. On the short haul sectors, they changed to snackbox

Increase in prices and surcharges due to fuel, people can understand. But when your ticket prices goes up, the least thing that the airline can do is let the service level unchanged. If MH, promote itself as 3 stars airlines, people probably don't care about it. But once they promote themselves to be in the same league as SQ and CX, that's outrageous.

  14. Now, you have point out MH's weakness. World is changing rapidly, business survival depends on how fast you can adapt to the business environment. The world doesn't wait for MH to change. A lot can happen in one day, stock market can crash, an earthquake can happen in just seconds... Tak apa lah principle is not valid here, as MH is a company that depends on the global customers and markets. Unless MH is a domestic only airline, it has to be able to adapt quickly to the competitors challenges and customers demand.

For how long are we going to wait for MH to change?

and for one, I'm curious how regular are you flying MH and/or its competitors?

  15. People will continue to fly with MAS no matter what I guess.

SQ increased flights frequency to ZRH

    while MH stopped flying there

AK increased flights to SUB to 4x a day

while MH reduced flights to 4x a week

    SQ increased capacity to MEL by flying 2 744 and 1 77W per day (up from 1 772, 1 773, and 1 744)

    while MH reduced flights to 2 772 (down from 1 744 and 1 772)

SQ has 2x daily flights to BNE

while MH struggles to fill in their once a day flight to BNE and now has to re-route their SYD flight to pick up passengers from BNE

SQ refitted their A345 with all business class seats for the EWR route (and LAX...)

EK will put their first A380 for JFK route as demand has apparently been high

while MH still struggling to find profit in their thrice weekly flight to EWR

Don't underestimate the market.. People can and will change their flying habits once they find out that grass is sometimes greener on the other side.

  16. Michael, I don't think anyone here love to bash their national carriers. But unfortunately, MH has gone downhill and it is not the 5 stars airlines it supposed to be. Have you actually fly the competitors like EK and SQ? We criticized MH bcoz we want them to do better. Yes the lounge is great, but competitors are not staying still. CX has a great lounge in HKG and TG has spa in its lounge. SQ has improved their onboard experience by bringing the new seats. What has MH done? Bringing snackbox experience onboard! I don't see any of these airlines offering snackbox, even on short haul routes.

Yes MH can succeed given the right strategy. IJ has done great in terms of bringing back the company's profit, however at what cost? In order to achieve this, he fail to see that MH is still and largely a serviced based company. MH is not just a transport company that brings people from point A to point B. If IJ cuts back too much, I'm afraid MH will fall behind (or has it?).
