TK... If you come PEN and I'm back home (varsity holidays), I'd be glad to show you the spots! ;-) Let me know if you have a plan. Steps are prefered, otherwise you'll have to climb up your four-wheeler...
Those TT pictures are the common spots I hang out at...
Ai seh... Penang spotters... Any spot-together plans?
-
Is anyone planning for spotting at KLIA this coming weekends, mornings?

Welcome LeeCH! Leech would be a nice calling, would you mind?
Looking forward to read your posts! We've got a "TK" from SQ! LeeCH, you in the 772 fleet, I surmise... No?

Wah..maybe me..this kid should folllow MWs Penang spotter to spot..but without camera..just hearing the sound and wacthing the metal bird would cheer me up !So i think every spotter in Penang stand on the same spot..turn left from main road(beside Follow Me Building or xxx building if not mistaken )..then turn right then go straight..right? Get wat i mean?
Eh Min Chun, you Penang guy ah? Next time I go back Penang I let you know-lar if I go spotting...
Attan, Chinese New Year there? If I get a car to go spotting maybe I can let you know and also Min Chun can follow... Deal?
Poor Sing Yew... I understand your feeling... I remember the airspace above my house (near PR NDB) was once uni-directional. It's getting more exciting these past months when Butterworth Approach or whatever (Penang Tower or Lumpur Center) allows inbound traffic to WMKP above my house! They are pretty low; can't tell how low but lower than outbound traffic would be... So I get to see a variety of a/c at relatively low altitude above my house...
-
So sorry, Min Chun, can't help you there. I was just visiting PEN when I took those shots. Was in PEN Dec 30 to refuel my C172 and then off to LGK. Popped into the Control Tower to submit my flight plans but didn't have time to "sembang" with the controllers but maybe next time when I'm there I'll casually ask them for the traffic flow pattern at PEN.Attan... Is Mr. Ooi the manager still there?

I wouldn't want to be in the plane if I were allowed to control the thrust levers during takeoff... Can anyone trust me...? Haha...
Oh... The alarm rang because the a/c was not in the right configuration to allow the levers half-way up; we were at parking mode... Aiks... The pilots know better!! Anyone...?

Min Chun,
I spot at Penang quite often lately since I gained more freedom (from my dad ) being a university student and above 21. I've got some pictures. See if I can post some here soon... The problem is, most of the time I go spotting, I don't have a camera with me. Merely presenting myself at the airport vicinity and having those metal birds flying over the skies and making so much noice is enough to fascinate me... Of course, having a camera along would be most valuable, but... what can I do... poor guy...
Sure, if I got pictures I'll post here!
Ignatius,
yeah, Penang has a wide breadth of Cargo's serving. Besides those you mentioned, there is also UPS and they serve Penang with their 757! Rarely can one find 757 in the skies of Penang, but here is one! Nevertheless, Penang traffic can be banal after sometime; rarely do visitors come.
Attan was standing by the fence east of the airport! ;-) There's where I stand most of the time to spot!
Eh... Those who spot at Penang, we go together-lah next time...?

Hey... Was in The Mall yesterday and came to this second-hand bookstore - Chest.
Saw a handbook - Conversation Guide for Cabin Crews, Malaysia Airlines.
I think it's an official guide from MAA... Check it out! It's a typical handbook, light green cover with batik texture. Cheap; RM 10.00.

Nice sharing, everyone... Really...
If I had enough knowledge on such issues, I'd play a part in the sharing...

Gloves! Yes, gloves. That was the first thing I noticed when I was in the cockpit long ago. After the flight, engines off, gloves also off. Looks good when landing with a pair of gloves...
Was on AK 50 to Macau recently. The captain left his office and went behind chatting with the cabin crews, so I took the opportunity to attempt a visit to the cockpit in-flight. The captain refused, but I was allowed in the cockpit after flight. Captain wasn't too friendly, but the Mat Salleh f/o was delighted to entertain me. So, I asked to allow me to shove the thrust levers and grip the yoke and play around with it! Being a simulator pilot, how meaningful it is to be able to give a touch on the controls! At least I feel the grip... Pushing the thrust levers up rang the alarm! Wrong config I was told...
How come, I was always told it is company regulation that no visitors in the cockpit during flight, but there are still visitors on these company flights?

Love the first batch of photos - the Heliconia! Nice! The rest are also great! ;-)

Wow wow wow...
Great info and pictures TK! Eye-opening to see how de-icing takes place!
Thanks for those wonderful posts, TK! ;-)

Have heard of anti-skid for so long but never knew what it is used for... May the pilots please explain? Thanks... ;-)

Speedbrakes down during evacuation to leave no gaps on the wing surface, I guess. Note there is an emergency exit at the wings.
-
Malaysia also saw this kind of drama few years backwhen 2 Germans landed a Cessna 172 on the North-South Highway
some where near Rawang I think.
They almost hit the rear of a truck, but managed to brake on time .
Cessna was rented from Royal Selangor Flying Club, and had engine problems.
PLUS had to close the highway for the take-off after engine repaired 2 days later.
Yeah... I remember that! Anyone has the footage of the whole scenerio?

Attan... Yeah, I know about your cockpit building... Great job... Hope to try it uot one day!
Now in UM... Second year...

It seems most prefer Boeing... I wonder why?
I myself is a Boeing fan, the 7n7 where n = 3, 4, 5, 6,7 in particular, but I can't deny the A330 and A340 are beatiful, aspecially from certain angle. The A320... in my opinion,
Pieter, you highlighted A320. May I know what is special about it? I'd really like to know what I don't... Thanks!

Hi TKDon't call me "Mr." lah. I feel so old already "Attan" will do.
Thanks for the explanation on the AP takeoff settings. Too bad I can't arm my LNAV/VNAV in MSFS - it's either ON or OFF.
So in EWR Newark Seven, you use HDG SEL to make the first turn. Do you then (1) activate the LNAV and use it for the second turn (at 4 DME ILS) or (2) you turn the HDG knob or (3) "wack" the yoke manually?
When you wrote "Set CLIMB thrust" in the FMA, is there a "CLB" button on your glareshield? or is it set by sliding your throttle levers forward? Sorry for asking all this but I'm an Airbus driver
Nice to hear your R/T recording, you sound perfectly clear but I can't say the same for your Captain lah.
A few more questions :
At what level do you activate your Yaw Damper and when do you disengage it?
Do you switch off your APU after engine start? and when do you put it back on? (before or after landing?)
Are all your PACKS off during takeoff and landing?
Your B777 equipped with EFB?
Don't worry I swear I won't say anything outside this forum to anybody.
I also have a flightsimmer friend in Stockholm who's building this B737 cockpit at home (see pic). I'll tell him that you go to ARL often.
Yo... Attan! Now you are with us!! So glad to see you here! I still have your card you gave me at the Penang Air Carnival back in 2001! It was great to sim with you that time... But your website no updates one huh...?

Attan... Yes, PR is near Bagan Serai, just by the main road. It's quite misleading about this NDB because it is nearer to Bagan Serai but it's named Parit Buntar.
Em... Is there an NDB or whatever navigation facility at Tanjung Piandang? Or do you just identify Tg. Piandang with your bare eyes? And yeah... I have been thinking to spot at Tg. Piandang beach as I believed a/c approaching WMKP Rwy 04 could pass by the shore just some miles away... Or even right above us...
OK... Let's spot at Penang when possible! I'll be back on Chinese New Year for about four days.
