  1. Hey... Jeppesen charts! That's what I have always been looking for! I remember going to every corner of KLCC, KLIA, and other big places in Malaysia to ask anyone I came across "can I find aeronautical charts for sale here"? That was way back in the millenium transition year when I first started simming... That time... No forum yet, no people of similar interest, no pilot friends... Where to get charts!

     

    Fortunately, technology comes very swiftly in Malaysia. Soon high-tech internet communication became commonplace and aviation since then is so much more accessible to the enthusiasts! With the existing forums, obtaining charts of various airports and arispaces is just a few clicks away.

     

    Just ask around, and there will be people happy to send you a soft-copy. :-) At least, that applies to me...

  2. Thanks, TK, for the information. I thought I saw somewhere or heard from someone that the 734 cruise at speed close to the 777 and 747 and so I thought I was flying slow all the time... Ok... Now I am not wrong...

    Have a more specific question here:

     

    MH 734 cruise at what speed at FL 250, PEN - KUL, for example? How about the 744, 772? Speed in Mach or IAS (or TAS)?

  3. I think the control column hides the actual speed. At high level there is not much space between min and max speed. A.k.a coffin corner.

     

     

    I think Radzi is right. The tape is hid by the yoke.

     

    Can please tell me the cruise speeds for 772, 744, and 734 at different FL's? Do we fly at any cruise speed as long as we are within the safe cruising speed margin? I really would like to know...


  4. Nice pics from sunny and hot Penang. I like the film grain :) It is disappointing that PEN has lost its viewing gallery to airline offices.

     

     

    It is not only disappointing but I am SO SO SO disappointed! It's such a great place to view planes taking off and land, and even the apron activities!

    Syed, meaning execution of flare higher than normal. That can result in stall, causing the plane to drop, giving the passengers a bumpy touchdown ride.

  6. Syed, maybe you are right... But not always true AK pilots slam the plane on touchdown. I was anticipating a rough landing (yeah, with immediate brakes) that time I flew AK to Macau. As we glided on finals and got closer and closer to the ground, I was prepared for a rough ride. Contrary to my expectation, the touchdown was smooth and no immediate braking. As I have prepared for a bad one, I was quite stunned for a while and was asking myself "have we landed?"

     

    I visited the cockpit after the passengers disembarked. It F/O was the one who did tha landing, as I learned. He was a Mat Salleh. Probably that's the reason for a smooth landing; perhaps he needs to hold a good record or he'll probably be retired sooner... Haha... So he decided to make every landing smooth and pleasing to the passengers... :D

     

    On the return flight, was expecting for a smooth landing as well. So, as the plane glided down the glide path, I was already in the mood for a smooth landing... To my horror, we bounced and I wobbled! Uh! :o

     

    Anyway, let's get serious. :) As many of you have noticed, usually AK's landing isn't smooth. As some of us notice as well, AK planes are usually high on the flare, as Radzi puts it. Could this be the reason for a "slam"? Stall and loses altitude...?


  7. This is serious man! Do you see what Sin Chew reports??!

     

    The crack was only realized when the guy pushing back the a/c noted it. It was not even spotted during pre-flight inspection, it seems! It has been suspected that an airport truck had hit the nose in the dark night. It is very IRRESPONSIBLE not to inform/report of the incident as it could mean another disaster in civic Taiwan aviation!

     

    More info from any of you who knows the inside story? What was the air crews' reaction?

    Hmm... Though I have not personally met this guy and only saw once his picture somewhere in the forum, I could guess dry.gif dry.gif ... he is the Briyanni guy, and I'm pretty sure it is right! No? ohmy.gif You gotta be kidding! biggrin.gif Reason I know? He dresses so much like a Middle-Eastern with a hat! biggrin.gif

    Azahan, why did the pilot got so excited that he had to tell Tower "we're ready" so many times?

     

    Mind lending me the scannar for my spotting trip tomorrow??? laugh.gif laugh.gif Sure would like to if you don't mind... rolleyes.gif

     

    Anyway, any of you going for spotting tomorrow morning?


  10. I am going spotting this Thursday morning. Off from Serdang at 9 am.

     

    As I read this thread, I still have questions. I remember there is one day in the week when single runway is in operation. When is it? Is it in the morning and most probably 14R?

     

    Any reccomendation to my trip? Where I can get best traffic and better shots?

  11. The road's name is Permatang Damar Laut if not mistaken. It's very easy to get there if you have own transportation.* Otherwise, take the yellow bus... Can't remember the number, though... Ask...

     

    *Go down straight the road outside the terminal. i.e. don't turn in to the terminal from the road, go straight down until the very end. (The road beyond the terminal might be a bit narrow.) At the traffic lights, turn left, proceed. Don't stop and soon you'll notice the familiar sight of an airport vicinity. I trust that you can.


  12. Harbin, the name, I believe it was from Manchurian.  The Manchurians are a distinct ethnic group, who has East Asian characteristics, they were the ones who ruled China during the Qing Dynasty.

     

    The Inner Mongolian capital Hothot (Hu Er Hao Te, in Han Chinese) came from Mongolian.

    That underscores how irrelevent (my opinion) what something, someplace is called. Depends on the language I would say...


  13. Yeah... Canton supposedly mean the provice instead of the captial city of Guang Zhou.

     

    As for me, I think Canton is still a nice way of calling the province. It is ok to have an English name for a non-English city. For example, "Ha Er Bin" is called Harbin. I have no idea where this name comes from but it sounds very English. One would not want to called the beloved dialect of KL Chinese "Guangdong-nese," would one? Cantonese is a pretty valid way to call the province.

     

    As to referring the capital city Guang-Zhou as Canton, that would be dead misleading. I'd suggest a distinction between the two. MAS would wanna be careful with this.
