  2. SIA's cabin crew recruitment in Malaysia ended last Saturday. i managed to pass the first two rounds of interview and also the water confidence test. scheduled for the final interview next weekend. it's pretty simple if your english proficience is easy.

  3. i went for mine today..and i did about the A320...

    there were guys who talked about football, F1, tony fernandez, a 2020 jet engine which cannot even be imagined to work..

    please think carefully and do something which you're confident about..and present your facts well..

    i did something very technical..and they stopped me a few times asking me "are you sure?"

    facts got jumbled up here and there..good luck!


  4. i don't know if this topic existed before, did a search and found nothing..

    going through the lists of A320's owned by airasia in A.net, some of them seem to be modelled A320-214 while there are some which are modelled A320-216..

    from what i understand, the number 4 & 6 are the versions of the engines..anyone care to give an insight on this?

    and maybe explain why the difference?

    it should help me since i'm doing this project! thanks a lot

    MAS' new unit to take over rural service

    MALAYSIA Airlines (MAS), via a completely new subsidiary, plans to take over the rural air service (RAS) in Sabah and Sarawak from Fly Asian Xpress (FAX) starting October 1.

     

    Managing director Idris Jala said the airline has already received the nod from the Government to set up a new company, whose name will be announced later, to operate the service.

     

    The Government has also agreed to the two conditions set by MAS - the first one on receiving full government subsidy and the other that it receives the existing aircraft used for the RAS in full operational mode.

     

    Idris explained that the service has to be operated by a new subsidiary due to Firefly's inability to do interlining for these routes as well as not to disrupt MAS' business turnaround plan.

     

    "Firefly cannot do interlining, just like FAX cannot do interlining. That is why it is important to put in place this subsidiary," he told a press conference after its first-quarter results in Petaling Jaya yesterday.

  6. i think priority boarding shouldn't be sold. like one of the replies over there which states that why not offer priority boarding through a loyalty program. there were very nice ideas which were put into place. and i'm hoping like many others, that their FA's improve their english. had a chat with a few of the stewardess the other day, only some of them could like speak properly. most of them had that slang that required me to peer my ear before the message got passed over actually.

    PUTRAJAYA: It has come a full circle – the rural air services will be taken from Fly Asian Xpress(FAX) and handed back to Malaysia Airlines(MAS).

     

    Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy, who announced this Cabinet decision yesterday, gave assurances that it would not affect MAS’ turnaround plan.

     

    “We have gone through the proposal and recommended to the Cabinet that MAS via its subsidiary Firefly be appointed to take over the rural air services.

     

    “We also agreed that the provision of such services is the Government’s responsibility and a type of social service so we will continue subsidising the cost of running these operations, which amount to RM60mil per year, to maintain the low-fare structure.

     

    “Officers from both my ministry and the Finance Ministry will go through all the details of the subsidy,” Chan told reporters at his office.

     

    It has been less than a year since MAS handed over the rural air services to AirAsia, which then subcontracted them to FAX.

     

    Earlier this month, FAX shareholder Datuk Tony Fernandes proposed that Firefly take over the operations of all rural air services, citing it as the “logical thing to do”.

     

    Fernandes said FAX would be launching AirAsia Long Haul operations soon, and that it would be too distracting to operate turbo-propeller aircraft as well.

     

    On Tuesday, MAS managing director Idris Jala said it would consider taking back the service if it did not jeopardise the national carrier’s turnaround plan.

     

    “To be fair to MAS, as a public listed company, the proposal will be brought to its board for consideration. However, I have already spoken to MAS’ top management and they are prepared to look into it.

     

    “But this is the Government’s decision. The takeover of these services will be a separate exercise from its restructuring plan. The Government will be responsible for any profit and loss incurred by MAS for the provision of these services,” he said.

     

    In response to this latest development, Idris replied in a statement that they had just been informed of the decision and would await details from the ministry.

     

    “Once the details are received, we will need to study them before making a decision,” he said.

     

    FAX chief operating officer Raja Mohd Azmi Raja Razali said they were pleased with the announcement, as it would enable them to work together with Firefly on a seamless handover.

     

    “My main concern is with the staff in Sabah and Sarawak. They have my assurance that we will take care of them in the eventual transfer.

     

    “All employees based in Miri and Kota Kinabalu will have the option of joining Firefly or AirAsia Long Haul,” he said in a statement.

     

    He added that this resolution would allow AirAsia Long Haul to concentrate its efforts in making the company the world’s first long-haul low-cost airline.

     

    According to Bernama, Sarawak Tourism Board chief executive officer Gracie Geikie said it would be a big help towards reinstating tourism destinations in the state’s rural areas on the global map.

     

    “As it is 100% owned by MAS, Firefly is in the best position to take over the service,” she said.

     

    She said tourism players in the state went through an “expensive experience” after FAX took over the service.

     

    In Kota Kinabalu, acting Sabah Tourism, Environment and Culture Minister Datuk Karim Bujang said the step would not only greatly benefit the people living in rural areas but would also help boost tourism.

  8. LAME - licensed aircraft maintainence engineer.

     

    ahmadzhafri, welcome abroad.

    regarding your questions,

    1) i doubt it is going to come in very handy having a degree except that it gives you more understanding in what you're about to do if you have a degree associated with any type of aircraft engineering. being a LAME is similar to being a pilot, you have to renew your licenses. should you fail to renew them at any point, then you're left jobless and probably the degree would come in handy.

     

    2) best path is always through an airline.

     

    3) seriously doing avionics or even mechanical doesn't differ much except that they are dealing with different stuffs. i think the prospects are pretty high, as most of our national airlines are expanding rapidly (namely airasia) and many others around the region. it wouldn't be tough securing the job.

     

    4) i seriously don't know this as i'm giving myself a shot to the airasia tame programme. perhaps i can update you in about 5yrs time? hehe


  9. thanx to some really 'tan sri' before, like what Capt Radzi said, MH did not have the ability financially to buy their aircrafts. But now, under the stewardship of Mr. Idris, MH is certainly looking at owning as many of their own aircrafts as they can...

     

    i guess it'll take him quite some time before he actually make the planes his..so many other stuff to make up for before they can even dream of expansion..
